"Alright there big guy here we go!! We're full of stone and ready for the fire, there's a patch right now!!" K'njin yelled pointing.

I see it mine and I flame! Azuleth said and belched forth a great flame which sizzled the thread turning it to ashes. They then circled round to have another go.

C'tari sat back as comfortably as he could in the saddle, firestone always at the ready. Feronamth seemed to keep his mouth gaped open continually, though it was really only a feeling and not the truth.

We are ready He said to C'tari just as the thread made it's presence known.

C'tari had to hold Feronamth back as the great bronze wanted to leap up to the highest heights with the greens and fight. But they were stationed far lower where they would fly the majority of the fall until the greens began to tire. He took a deep breath putting all his faith and trust into his dragon as he always did. Mind your tail love. He said affectionately as they climbed with strong wing beats.

It comes, we fight! C'tari let his mind go, concentrating on his part of watching for clumps and feeding firestone, nothing else mattered at this exact moment. He could feel the muscles beneath him working and anticipated every movement before it happened, dragon and rider, moving as one.

Remia held her breath as she watched the skies ahead of where the weyrlings were restlessly waiting in the reserves area behind the main threadfall. She could see, high above them, the wings of dragons soaring, waiting for the first of their ancient enemy to fall.

Then, there it was, beyond even the tiny forms of the far off dragons-- the silvery smudge that meant thread. She could feel Trith tense beneath her, and she turned her attention away momentarily to reassure her dragon.

Trith hissed once, but aside from a shuffling of her wings, she didn't move.

They rise, they meet it! she informed her rider, and Remia bit her lip, worrying about the injuries that were almost a foregone conclusion. She could see the forms above blink out now and again, appearing further ahead, as the dragons dodged between to avoid the deadly strands.

She checked the bags of firestone attached to the riding straps again, though she knew they were there and secured. The riders above would be needing replenishments, and it would be up to all of them, the weyrlings, to give them the firestone they needed.

She was ready, and Trith was ready. They would perform their duties, and this threadfall would meet its end. Remia took a deep breath, and waited.

Fighting thread gave a chance for both rider and dragon to work together, become one as they dived this way and that. L'cian and Tallith were a perfect combination, sweeping this way and that to keep their wings free from the burning thread and away from harm.

Over there. L'cian mind spoke to his dragon, holding onto the safety straps to lean to one side of the beast's great neck.

In the next second his brilliant brown had turned his head upwards, canted it and let forth a great gout of flame. It flickered outwards, hissing through the air with a bubbling heat. L'cian's face burned, glowing orange under the flame's light. Then as soon as it had come it had gone, leaving L'cian feeling almost cold.

Firestone? Tallith queried, sweeping sharply sideways to make room for the next dragon behind them.

Of course, here. The rider leaned over and passed the stone to his dragon, listening to the great crunch as large teeth crushed it into dust. Then they were off again, sweeping inwards to meet with another clump of thread.

N'tren stayed with the other weyrlings of the new wing. He tossed bags of firestone as the fighting riders swooped down low to renew their dragons' flames. Already, he had a sweat worked up and his muscles ached but the fall was far from over. Datiath was grumpy at being held back from flaming and it took all of N'tren's concentration to keep him appeased.

I am bronze. I should fly with Thread is in the sky. The dragon muttered.

I am sorry my turns hold us back but none can fly in the fighting wings until they are sixteen turns. Concentrate on getting firestone to our friends faster. N'tren replied in a terse voice.

He did a sweep and saw several senior riders he knew taking on clumps of Thread. The small queen's wing was handling whatever made it through. N'tren's stomach pitted as he watched blues and greens swoop and dive to char Pern's oldest enemy.

Soon, N'tren thought. Let it all be over soon. And let Caleten be safe.

G'dor steeled himself, his expression becoming quite dangerous as they glided into formation with their wing. His first thread flight- a senior wyerling and his brown. He smirked inwardly as he gripped the straps of his harness tighter, looking up as the silvery threads decended down upon them. Kyte and Sale began screeching, swopping around by his head.

This is it, Queth., G'dor patted the dragon on the neck, taking a short glance over to where his brother was arriving, Tell R'ael's dragon to relay a message- tell him to be careful- and whoever has the most threadscores by the end of this gets to buy the other dinner.

This is serious, mine., The dragon grumbled a bit, his body tensing up as he craned his neck back for a mouthful of firestone.

I know it is... but there's no harm in making it a bit more interesting.

The brown launched itself forward his massive shoulders rolling under his rider as he pumped himself upwards towards a clump of the thread. G'dor held fast to the dragon, ducking his head as Queth sent a tounge of flames out to meet the thread, turning it into black ash that would harmlessly fall to the ground below. Kyte and Sale both screeched, directing the pair towards another patch that had made it to their wing's level.

It was like nothing G'dor had ever experienced before, it was as if both his eyes and the eyes of his dragon were the same, the wings were his own, his own lungs burning from the flames, his heart racing from the effort. He soon became very aware of everything around him all at once, focused only on the task at hand, ducking around other dragons as they flew.

"HEY YOU!" K'njin yelled to G'dor. "Pay attention!" Just then Azuleth trumpeted a warning at one of the other rider's dragons just as another clump came down. The large blue then winked between and reappeared a human length away from where the clump almost had them.

That was too close, mine, you should be paying attention too and not worry about the others. If they get scored it is the rider's fault. Azuleth said belching forth flames at the clump.

"We have to look out for each other, mine." K'njin replied. That is what a rider does.

The thread fall always seemed to last forever for C'tari, much in the same way laying on the beach didn't. Visions of the warm sand flashed through his vision and he pushed those thoughts aside, he needed to stay focused.

A dragon trumpeted and both C'tari and Feronamth turned at once to see what had caused the commotion, his heart skipping a beat that someone was injured. It was then that he saw the silver thread but a handsbreath above his head and with a sharp intake of breath Feronamth went between without warning. C'tari gripped the straps in his hands reflexively as they appeared safely away from it.

Firestone! Feronamth seemed unpurterbed and it gave C'tari strength, going between like that always made him afraid he wouldn't be able to find his way back out.

We will never get lost, I... But Feronamth's thoughts were lost then as he flamed again, the heat melting away the cold of between that clung to C'tari's flight jacket.

All is well, no one is injured. The new ones fly dangerously.

We didn't fly so well our first time either. He gave the great bronze another helping of firestone and checked all his sacks to gauge when they would need more.

G'dor wishes to make a bet about dinner. Based on who takes the most score from thread....Jaereth pointed out, his eyes flashing with a burst of anger, respecting the agony of a thread burn.

G'dors showing off. Ignore him. And tell him he can ask the thread he -missess- to take him to dinner. R'ael fumed.
He'd originaly been fairly certain he would, like the younger riders, be only handing out stone, but he'd already noted other riders his and G'dors age on the wing, and with Jaereth freshly supplyed with stone, he was already making his own way.

He had a proud dragon in Jaereth, but not a foolish one, though the blue was taking full advantage of his speed in the air, insinerating a clump of thread as they swept upward to join some of the other smaller, faster dragons.
He was nervous and it showed in his white knuckled grip, though he was doing his best to emulate the older, more experienced riders.

N'tren's hand shook as he heard a dragon bellow above. He watched two different dragons and riders move with speed to dispel the Thread before it reached ground. His innards were a mess. Would he and Datiath be able to think so quickly when it came turn for them to fly?
Just others being foolish. We will not be so careless. Datiath spoke with an edge to his voice.

Returning to the ground to grab another bag of firestone, N'tren tried to keep his mind open and listen to the who needed more to supply his or her flame. Shaking his head, he could only wait until given an order. I know we will not. But many of our friends fly up there.

Each must look after his own, mine. And you and I must make sure our friends on the ground stay safe. Datiath tried to reassure him.

I understand. N'tren replied. Just then, a bellow of a differnt sort as the firestone keeper told him there was a rider who was almost out of the precious stone. Coming!

We're going to need more stone soon, Azuleth... K'njin said as he fed his great blue a good size chunck of firestone.

We can hold out mine. Said the blue, he then sent forth another blast of intense flame which incinigrated a rather large clump of thread.

I can't take that chance, Azuleth... K'njin said firmly. Signal one of the youths for more firestone.

Azuleth then bellowed out the request for more firestone.

((I'm not -really- late... >.> I was here the entire time. You're imagining things.))

The Fall was going...fairly well, as far as K'rel could tell. It was a bit difficult to focus on both flaming Thread and keeping up with the running commentary of Siventh relaying the actions of the other wingriders. The brown dragon, usually so carefree and prone to recklessness, was absolutely in his element and undergoing one of his rare moments of responsibility. K'rel couldn't have been prouder.

Swoop on a patch of Thread, wheel on a wingtip after another and call a young rider back to formation. During Fall, Siventh was the Wingsecond. The brownrider kept his eyes open and directed Siv towards clump after clump, but it was the dragon who ensured things ran smoothly for the wing, instructing back and forth with L'cian's brown Tallith. And still, K'rel noted smugly as he sorted through the brown's words, finding time to send the occasional nervous query towards Liliath as to her wellbeing.

"Wherry," K'rel muttered under his breath, crouching low over the dragon's neck as they rose to flame a patch of Thread to charred flecks.

The actuall amount of 'chatter' between the dragons surprised him a bit, though it wasn't the foremost thing on his mind, just a small corner of startled interest off to one side. Somehow he'd always assumed it to be a little...quieter, though for him the most 'internal' noise was the sound of Jaereth telling him what was going on, as the blue turned another clump of thread into a burning knot.
They were absoloutely disgusting to look at, and burning made the entire afair feel a little cleaner in regards to the writhing, deadly silvery things. Even had he been totaly ignorant of thread, he thought they would still have looked terribly, enormously -wrong-.
They are. Jaereth noted, wheeling around to seek more falling 'prey'. There is nothing more wrong that I know of.

The weyrlings were doing well with the firestone, and thank the shell for it. The rock had been on T"bells' mind as soon as he realized just how fast Liliath went through it in threadfall.

Siventh worries. Liliath sent, mildly amused.

'We're fine.' T'bell sent as he shoved another hunk of firestone into her mouth and wrapped his hand around the flying straps. He briefly felt amused, flattered, and mildly annoyed, though the last left him quickly once he realized he was worried about the wingsecond too. K'rel better not get himself hurt. He couldn't afford the distraction...

I will tell you if he stops asking. She offered. If the brown stopped asking that probably meant he was in some sort of trouble.

T'bells stomach turned.

He managed a smile and ducked low to her body as they winged higher. She was doing well, for her size. All the fast flying was going to have her worn out by the end of the fall and he was trying hard to pace her, but too often a younger greenrider would look away, or miss a clump, or come too close. He'd not caught everything, but he'd also avoided too many close tris between.
