This year we'll be seeing the release of the New Beginnings DVD set, which includes The Keeper of Traken, Logopolis, and Castrovalva (the first three stories featuring Ainley as the Master), as well as the 7th Doctor story Survival (Ainley's last Master performance). My suspicion is that these are coming out now to set the stage for the Master's triumphant return to the silver screen.
Also, having the Daleks coming back every season is getting old. The Master makes a great repeat villain. Unless he's acting stoopid like in Mark of the Rani.

I just looked the box-set up on Amazon. I take it that Survival is seperate? Only it doesn't seem to be in there. But the others are and the box-set looks very cool. Survival I shall just have to wait for until April... I'm not sure about bringing the Master back. I know I'm being very boring and clingy, but I really think that the Master, if he comes back, should act and dress like the first two incarnations. The one in movie (aside from being in a terrible plot line and played by not a wonderful actor) hurt me most cos he was all leather jacket thug look instead of smart, dressed in black with evil goatee look. Christopher Eccleston is allowed a leather jacket, but I would prefer a new Master to go back to his roots... I think if they did bring him back then they probably would put a 'twist' on him so he's very different from his old self. And I dunno if I'd be happy wiith that. EDIT: Just thought I'd put this in since it does look so stylish...

Oops, I worded that poorly. Yeah, Survival isn't part of the set, but will apparently be a 2-disc edition. Why a story consisting of only three 22-min episodes is getting the 2-disc treatment is beyond me... I don't know if I want a new Master to look/act like Delgado's or Ainley's performances, considering that, as a Timelord, he should act a bit different with each new incarnation. Although, he doesn't really regenerate anymore, so maybe he should retain his former personality if/when he returns. But, yeah, Eric Roberts' over-the-top version of the Master sucked potatoes.

I hope to never again see the Master! Enough was enough and by the time they finally got rid of him, he had boring, tedious and annoying for a very long time.
The only character who annoyed me even more was the Rani.

There's no reason why they can't bring back anyone they please. And the Master is one of the greatest Dr. Who villains of all time. Let's hope they do bring him back. I know I'd love it if they did.

katybutterfly Actually, we have already seen the Doctor's final regeneration. In the Colin Baker story "Trial Of A Time Lord" the lawyer for the prosecution is the Valeyard, who is said to be the 13th Doctor and personifies all the negative aspects of the Doctor's personality. Though this is possible you have to consider the damage to the time lines that has happened over the Time War not to mention the fact that the Doctor said that time can altered when you know what you are doing. Still it would be nice to see that master back. Apparetnly Tom Baker wanted to play him in a cameo role in series 1 but Davies durned down the idea as they where to early in to production (dispite the fact that he was thrown in to the eye of harmony in the movie). Though the Rani is romoured to return we have yet to see her demise as she was exiled from Galefray before the time and the Rani. I think....

It was a pitty Delgado died in that car accendent in Turkey. He was a brilliant villain mainly because he looked good in a suit. Anthony Ainly was good he had a swarve look about him that suited the act, I just wasnt sure about that funny top he wore with th gold frills in the five doctors a little bit camp for my liking. Bring back the evil ginius in the suit!

In the Colin Baker story "Trial Of A Time Lord" the lawyer for the prosecution is the Valeyard, who is said to be the 13th Doctor and personifies all the negative aspects of the Doctor's personality. The idea of an evil anti-Doctor has appeared in fan-fiction, even before the "Valyard" (whatever that means) was created. Keep in mind, though, that the Valyard wasn't actually the 13th Doctor but a concoction of the Master's to create the ultimate anti-Doctor. Of course, true to form, the Master forgot that if he'd never been able to control the real Doctor, he would certainly not be able to control an anti-Doctor. I never liked that story very much. In fact, I never liked the Trial of a Timelord story because it made no sense at all. Most fans at the time found it very stupid, though as always there were exceptions. John Nathan-Turner never really understood Doctor Who, and did his best to reshape it into his own image. The problem was, even he wasn't sure of what that image was, and the show slowly lost most of its audience. It took a long time to de-JNT the program, and it didn't start getting back on its feet until the 8th Doctor appeared. It was the first time that Doctor 7 actually started looking like the Doctor and not just a circus clown. The 8th Doctor story has its own problems, but it was the beginning of something new. Although it is canon, I never watched Trial of a Timelord but once because so much of it was so annoying.

I kinda liked Peter Pratt, myself, because he was funny and had Delgado's attitude. Eric Roberts wasn't really that bad, but I think a lot of people didn't like the Terminator business with him. I was personally very happy when the TARDIS ate him, and won't shed tears if he doesn't come back. I just wish the Rani wasn't coming back, either. She really pissed me off.

Personally I'd love to see the Master back. In fact that's how I wanted Rose to leave the show, being strangled to death by Master. But, alas, it was not to be.

Twisted Davros Personally I'd love to see the Master back. In fact that's how I wanted Rose to leave the show, being strangled to death by Master. But, alas, it was not to be. That's really twisted! And personally I'd love it if the Master returned, even though I haven't actually seen him in any of the actual canon episodes yet. So I've rather developed the impression he's a bit of a half-arsed villain, the sort who's always teaming up with the protagonists whenever they've a common enemy, which isn't a bad thing for a villain to be like but I'm sure it can't be right.
