Paestri carefully balanced Jenevive in her arms, not because she feared that she'd drop the infant but because the younger Legend was serving as her counterbalance. The descent down the ladder was a tricky thing to accomplish, but thankfully she managed to get down without a problem.
The bottom wasn't much better than the room they woke up. Roomier, yes, but darker and still no clear way out. "Where do you think we should go?" she asked both Jenevive and Aquene.

It was so much longer than Eeenie had expected and she felt her spirits drop more and more with every few metres. She felt suffocated without the sky and there was something about going down into a dark hole that really didn't help with that. Eeenie didn't even see the the bottom- her foot went for another rung and hit the ground instead.
"I don't mind where we go. They look the same anyway." Aquene replied.

"I don't mind where we go. They look the same anyway. So we can go ...this way?" Aquene stared for a moment more then went down the tunnel that stretched out behind them. "Unless you two want to go the other way."

The enveloping darkness seemed to go on forever, a rather bad thing as Jenivive now realised the dark scared her a bit. Whimpering lightly until the area around them did at least open a bit, the babe listened to Aquene's commentary. They did, indeed, seem to look the same. So which way were they meant to go? A trust in one's elders was often needed, and thus Jenivive merely trusted that the two girls would know where they needed to go. She merely looked up at Paestri's hair and drooled slightly.

Paestri looked at both ends, then at Eeenie and Jen. She canted her head and opened her mouth to say something. Instead she sneezed, away from the other two Legends naturally. "Mebbe we could go that way?" she sniffed, cocking her head towards the opposite direction she sneezed in and wiped at her nose with the back of her hand.
It was the opposite direction Aquene pointed. Why had she sneezed? Probably the result of being in such a dank, clammy environment when she was much more accustomed to warmth and light.

"Okay." Aquene agreed. She knew she should go first, at least she provided a teeny bit of light, but she did hesitate a moment. It was so weird... one didn't expect to wake up in an odd room and go down an odd hall. "So let's go that way."
Aquene went off in the direction Pae pointed, stepping carefully, her orange eyes trying desperately to find out details in the darkness.

That way? Which way was that way? Everything looked the same to Jenivive. Black here, black there. Black up, black down. Someone had snuck into the world and stolen all the light! Yes, that was the answer, they just needed to find the light! On that happy note, she burbled a little, sucked on her fingers, and announced, entirely in a language understandable to none but herself, that she had discovered the problem, knew the solution, but would need directions as to where the light was now located, and just who had put it there. Simple!

Details may be fleeting, but the plain fact of a thick wall in front of the girls' faces a while in may be hard to miss. Well, maybe just hard, depends on your eyesight. There are notches etched into the wall, a climbing framework, maybe? Climb up where there's no sign of light above, or try the other way?

One hand still cradling Jen to her body, Paestri used her other hand (the one she had wiped her nose with) to feel for her way in the dark. From time to time her fingers would brush against Eeenie's back, sometimes her wings, depending on how large a step the pink-haired Legend made.
She'd look to Jen, or rather squint to look at Jen making sure that it was still the little infant in her arms. And not some horrible creature merely pretending to be Jen. Then again, even if it were, Paestri wouldn't have done much of anything unless said creature would attack her jugular or some other vital part of her body. Eventually they came up against a wall, well, that was inconvenient.
She felt the notches however, but didn't think it would be a good idea to climb if she had Jen in her arms. The ladder was tricky enough but grooves on walls? No, that wouldn't work for her.
"Think going up'll lead us outside? Or just back into that dark room?" she asked, peering up despite the lack of light.

Aquene's hands moved along the wall curiously across the notches and almost pulling herself up as she reached upwards. But it wasn't going to be much good with the baby.
...and it was kind of dark up there.
"Maybe try the other way." Aquene decided, turning around, "And if it doesn't look any good we can try climbing somehow?"

Jenivive continued in her own little world. What were the older girls thinking? Solid walls didn't steal light! At least... she didn't think so. The thing that was hiding the light must be the other way, because, as far as they knew, that way wasn't blocked by a solid wall. Yes, they would have to turn around and hunt down the light in the other direction.
And again, in her own private little baby language, she told the others this.

Paestri cocked her head at Jen's baby talk, "Yes, it's quite dark isn't it?" she coo'ed. "The other way sounds good, might be hard if we have to climb. Unless your wings can lift you up and you can carry Jen along the way up?" She suggested to the winged Legend, but she was already headed towards the other way.

"They just help me float so I don't know if it'd work." Aquene replied, right behind Pae, orange eyes trying their best to pierce the darkness. Her hands brushed along the walls every now and then as she went as if trying to understand what they were walking in.

The ease of traveling via another's footsteps seemed to escape Jenivive's notice as the thought ocurred to her that this adventure to find the light seemed to involve a lot of walking back and forth. What on earth was held in store for them when they found the light, she wondered?
Had they reached the halfway point, back to the ladder? Or were they further than that? The darkness was confusing Jenivive's sense of direction. She was, in all truth, hopelessly lost in her own mind, for when everything was black like that, it seemed so vast!

Paestri plodded on, neither frustrated nor worried whether or not they'd end up wandering for all eternity. "Oh? So you don't fly very well?" she asked the blonde Legend, "Maybe if your wings were bigger?" she suggested, glancing over her shoulder as she continued to walk in the darkness, one hand outstretched to warn her of any impending walls.
