Pyou lay on his stomach next to the crystaline pool in the centre of the room, lazily running his fingers over the surface and watching the reflected ceiling ripple and distort. There was no reflection of Pyou within those waters, indeed, he'd never seen his own reflection. Ardys had told him he would not gain a reflection until his Husk was collected from the Outside and he was fused into a true Empyrean. For now, his spirit haunted these hallows, awaiting the day he would truly wake, and forget all these times in between as one forgets a dream upon waking. Pyou issued a soft sigh and tried hard not to think about the things he'd seen earlier that day.

"Your sigh is so sad . . ."

His voice was but a whisper, and even so, it seemed loud in his ears within the quiet chamber; he had taken care to mute his voice, but any sound seemed to echo against the stones of the mosaic floor. Regulus winced slightly, his steel features contorting for an instant beneath the overhang of lapis blue, but his blood red eyes did not leave the smaller figure lounging along the edge of the Pool.

Pyou . . .

Regulus recognized the displaced Empyrean, but although his name came readily to his mind, the memory that he held of him was blurry, unfocused, as if that of a dream. And there were . . . emotions there, associated with the mysterious child, that surfaced and fought inexplicably against his Melancholy composure. Yes, he recognized Pyou . . . but would the spirit of the Empyrean to be recognize him?

He had been warned that one day, he would not . . . but did his memory survive intact until that day arrived? Did he recall, would he remember? Regulus himself found it difficult to relive that first encounter . . . but despite the fogginess of the memories associated with the child, Pyou had nevertheless made an indelible impression upon Regulus' mind.

He bit his lip, and reached habitually for the edge of his cape, but his fingers grasped only air; Regulus had left his cape with his boots and his coat at the entrance to the temple. He had deemed it too awkward to proceed so fully clothed when bare-footed, and had so gone forth into Ardys' domain clad in naught but his leggings, and now he felt doubly naked for his exposure.

Cursing himself for his inhibitions, Regulus breathed out and nerved himself. It was worth the try, come what may . . . Pyou had been a ready friend to the Melancholy, and Regulus had precious few friends.

He managed the ghost of a smile, and a second soft whisper.

". . . hello again, little one."

Pyou raised himself up on his elbows and glanced sharply over his shoulder. No doubt Ardys had come again to reprimand him for disturbing the pools... Pyou's mouth was already pursed with some comment to his own defense when he saw a Zero, all cool colours of the Melancholy Alignment. Pyou pulled himself up onto his knees and pressed and picked at his scant clothing in a last-ditch effort for a little dignity.

"Hello." As Pyou addressed the young male he got a better look at the other's face and began to smile. "Regulus, I had not recognized you without all your elegant clothes." He offered a short flitting wave before clasping his hands tightly together and willing himself to be less awkward.

Pyou let his gaze drift back to the pool and then looked up again with a polite smile. "Were you looking for Ardys? Could I fetch him for you?" I was strange to have someone here, to talk to and see. He'd been watching the goings on of Empyrean from the waters of the pool for so long, that to be seen in return was making the poor spirit more than a tad uncomfortable.

Regulus read the unspoken discomfort in the other's face, and immediately dropped his eyes as well, so as to spare Pyou the continued weight of his gaze. Feigning a marginal interest in the pattern of the mosaic beneath his feet, he passed one hand before his face, brushing back a length of blue from his eyes.

"I am glad that you recognise me at all." Regulus offered him the vestige of a smile, still avoiding direct eye contact, and still speaking in hushed tones. He subconsciously followed Pyou's example and clasped his hands together also, hiding them out of sight in the small of his back, and standing as straight as a soldier at attention. "I had wondered if you would . . . I was unsure as to whether or not you might remember me."

He felt as if he had stumbled on his words; he did not know if such assumptions would be cause for insult on Pyou's part, and he certainly did not wish to offend him. Regulus was having difficulty expressing his thoughts, and the frustration he felt at his lack of fluency combined with the sharp self-conscious state that the absence of his raiment had caused him was leaving him increasingly ill at ease.

And he could see, much to his dismay, the echo of uneasiness in Pyou's face and mein as well . . .

Of a sudden he laughed, drawing one hand up to his mouth to stifle the sound, soft as it had been. He closed his eyes and shook his head, sending his long hair whispering over his naked shoulders.

"I feel so out of place here," he admitted in a subdued voice. "I am so sorry, Pyou; I do not mean to disturb you. I did not come in search of Ardys; in truth, I could not tell you why it is that I came. I merely felt as if drawn to this place, to-day . . . I have heard word spoken of the Dreaming Pool, and I have oft seen it from afar, but I have never ventured within. I am here without just cause . . ."

He smiled again, and while it was once again only the merest motion of his silver lips, this time the expression was genuine.

". . . but even so, I am glad to have seen you again. Mayhap I am here without reason, but it is my belief that simply seeing you has made my visit worth-while."

Regulus inclined his head toward Pyou in a small bow.

Pyou watched as the other became increasingly uncomfortable and could not help but feel responsible for the state of awkwardness they'd both been thrust into. As Regulus voiced his doubt about being remembered, Pyou visably winced. "I remember still. I've not yet been fused..." Pyou's already soft voice was the ghost of sound as he whispered, squinting a little up at the other. Is this how it will be? Once he was fused, and free to roam the halls, would he find himself asked by a multitude of strangers why he had forgotten them? It wrenched the heart with guilt and remorse.
Pyou glanced about the delicate space of the Dreaming Pool and felt a little of his recent resentment towards Ardys slip away; there were reasons, afterall, why the Three confined him to this space. He was lucky to be granted this chance at all. Pyou gave an audible and theatrical sigh and expelled his tension.
"In any case," Pyou offered, the pitch of his voice lifting and growing warm as he spoke, "welcome to the Dreaming Pool. I'm always here. Please feel free to come keep me company any time you're unoccupied." Pyou picked himself up from the floor at the edge of the Pool and smoothed down his irridescent clothes. He took a couple small, shy steps forward and reached out one delicate hand to the other. "If it's your first time here, you must be dying to have a good look around. Come, let me show you this place."

Standing in the hall, whispering and gossiping about the secretive state the City had been sunk under, you try to wrap your head around the recent evets. You hear a pair of Echoes discussing something they'd noticed.

You know you oughtn't eavesdrop, but your curiosity gets the better of you, and you sneak after the two Phlegmatic boys trying to listen in on their humble discovery.

Post this Clue in the Dreaming Pool after reading the Entry in Aureus & Argentum's Journal.

((And to prove I read the entry, here it is with the important points noted~))

SkieBorne
As the events surrounding the possible spy unfolded, the resident Echoes Aureus and Argentum had been hard at work scrying for something, anything that could help catch this intruder. They’d been skeptical at first but as the clues started to pour in, the twins had redoubled their efforts. Someone or something was trying to harm the City. Neither would tolerate such a breach and poured their strength into the scrying.

After much hit and miss, an idea struck them. Could it be…? They’d been scrying for monsters… spells… even Outsider equipment – anything that would warp or bend Empyrean work and nothing had turned up. So perhaps they’d been looking at things the wrong way… If what you were looking for had not caused any warping try searching for a lack of normal fluctuations, right?

Together, Aureus and Argentum poured over maps, dowsed with their best tools, scryed promising spots. After a great deal of work and effort, they caught a trace of something unknown, a tiny almost insignificant blip in the normal ebb and flow of essence in the city. Had they not been actively looking for it they would not have paid it attention.

Focusing into the area, they found an absence of Essence… like a void. It just simply didn’t permeate the small area like it did in the rest of the city. A small difference, one few would recognize but for the determined Twins it was a much needed breakthrough. They had a location and an indication of what they were facing.

Without further ado, they left their things where they lay and left their home to go in search of Bardane so that their evidence might be brought before the Chorus.

Would the Chorus find the Spy in time?

What would the Metatrons decide?

Was war on the way?

((Hopefully that's enough?))

Biwa wasn't normally nosy. She really wasn't. But this whole mess had her on edge, and she wanted to know something, anything, that meant it would be over soon. Everybody's suspicion and fear were battering at her mind, and she recoiled from it.

So when she heard the twins talking, she followed. She stole on silent feet after them. Of course, those feet were only silent until she had to speed up to keep up with them, and then tripped.

"Oof!"

For the most part, the twins hadn't noticed the one tailing them so intent on getting the information to Bardane. Argentum held his dowsing crystal out, having attuned it to what they were looking for and watched it as it gently swayed in the direction of the intruder. He had no idea how exact it was but still, their discovery was quite possibly a break through.

So when they heard an 'oof' behind them, they spun with wings spread and crystal secreted away in a flash. When it became apparent a zero was before them, they visibly calmed - the glow about their halos dulling as they released the essence they'd summoned. Tilting his head, Aureus eyed Biwa, "Have you found more clues?"

Biwa squeaked and scrambled back when they whirled on her, and even when they relaxed, she remained trembling, barely able to speak.

"Ah-ah-um..." She bit her lip, heart racing. "I-I just heard... you two... t-talking- I- I-"

Was she almost... crying?

When Argentum saw that they had frightened the little one, he frowned deeply and then blinked as he saw her on the edge of tears. Feeling horrible, the phlegm walked up to her and enfolded her in a tight, comforting hug. "We're sorry... we didn't mean to scare you.... Shh...."

Aureus had echoed his brother's movement, coming up beside her with an equally apologetic look. "Apologies... You heard us talking? Did you have something to add? It's very important that you not keep anything to yourself." He knelt a little, matching her gaze and smiling handsomely.

Indeed they were both giving off calming auras, both upset that they had so quickly reduced another to tears without even trying.

It wasn't really their actions alone, but also Biwa's state of mind. She was so frightened by everything, wanted it to be over and for peace to return. She wanted to grow up without the fear that something could happen at any moment. She wanted to be sheltered.

She tensed, first, at the hug. But slowly, their calming energy relaxed her, and she came down from the height of tears, managing to only let a few drop to her cheeks.

"I... n-no, I don't know anything else... I'm just scared. Do... have you found what's causing everything? I want it to stop..."

The frowned, "We're not sure. Possibly. Whatever it is, it's important." Aureus smiled and patted her shoulder as Argentum drew back.

"It will stop soon, we're sure this will help trap whatever's invaded." Argentum repled, kneeling down so he was even as well and looked into her eyes, "Don't be afraid, alright?" He spoke softly, soothingly, before standing and turning her about, "Now, go to your friends. They're helping with this as well, we have to go - this can't wait."

Aureus nodded and laced his arm through Argentum's as they stepped back together, "Come see us later if you want to talk, we're never too busy to help."

Biwa nodded, shakily drawing herself back up to her feet, wiping off the dirt that had clung to her skirt. "R-right... w-well... thank you for trying to stop this," she murmured, bowing low at the waist. "Thank you... I'll try not to be as scared."

She smiled, weakly. "Can I... can I let the others know what you've found...?"

"Lord, what fools these mortals be!"

Zethyr's bare feet made hardly a sound as he entered, the low sound of his voice barely seeming to stir the quietness of this place. Always upon arriving was he struck by the loveliness of it, but ne'er was he as impressed with the surroundings as that which they housed, that very same individual whom he had come to see. A heart imperiled, by poet's word, so Zethyr phrased it, or perchance it was two hearts, though sometimes, he found the exact connection between he and Pyou a difficult one to fathom.

The Banquet had been exquisite, a rare delight, though the indigo eyes of the Melancholy had been possessed of singular sight, and he had not mingled, but sought out the little Spectre who had become his love.

There were things of which they must talk, that Zethyr felt they would better share in a more solitary place. Zethyr had spoken to Lior, after all...a major step and something that the silver-haired academic had been more than a little leery of doing. But the deed was done, and it felt much like sweeping out the attic after a few years of dust.

A draping, ornate garment that fastened about the waist and trailed to nestle loosely in the crook of each elbow was currently all that Zethyr was wearing. It was a lovely evening, after all, and copious amounts of clothing was something that 'Thyr had never taken to regardless. Like this one could almost imagine him some ethereal Grecian scholar come to walk the halls of one's Dreaming.

But instead, it was simply one Empyrean come to visit his beloved. "Pyou?" A soft, lilting note of inquiry, as though not wishing to disturb the silence, like the still waters of a pool.

Pyou was lying at the side of one of the rightmost pools, a smallish comma shaped body of crystalline water. He lay on his stomach on the glsitening blue and white tile and trailed his fingertips over the surface of the pool, watching the ripples shatter their reflected light and dance the sparkling debris away across the water. Pyou...? He thought he heard his name whispered in this place. He sat bolt upright, one leg tucked under him, the other still stretched out behind him, back arched and weight supported on both slender hands. His mauve eyes swept the massive Dreaming Pool in but an instant, certain that he had heard more than just an echo. And there! Pyou nearly uttered a cry of joy as he caught sight of Zethyr, trailing in his flimsy robes. The pale little Phlegmatic leap lightly to his feet and ran towards the other, his little feet naked as they needed to be when walking this sacred ground pattered across the mosaic tiles. He weaved quickly between the sparkling pools of water and flung himself airborne into Zethyr's arms. "You came!" Pyou exclaimed, not loudly but full to the brim with teaming emotion. "I'm so glad to see you! I'd always mentioned you visiting me here, but I never thought you'd actually come!" Pyou burried his small face into Zethyr's neck and hair and stayed tightly nestled there for a long emotional moment.
