I read Leroux's novel in French. Why?

Because my father tells me, "You always read any classic that's written originally in your native language in your native language! So, read PotO in French!"

Who was I to complain? blaugh Erik sounds so sexy speaking in French! I wish I could listen to the French version singing! crying

They should have French-spoken clips from the Movie on Youtube. Sadly, that's the only place there's any of the ALW in French. France doesn't dig the musical.

It's because it was made by an English man XD

They hate/ cautiously accept any English or American ideas, especially when it's about their country and their culture. They think we screw up everything we touch, at least culturally.

Actually I'd like to point out that the French words sang are actually different from the English version we all know by heart.

You see, if the lyrics-people were to translate the actual English lyrics to French then the syllables might be all wrong or the words might not fit the tune/ ryhthmn of the whole song. Plus, I think, whoever made the French lyrics was aiming to have the lyrics insync with the lip movements of the actors,(did you ever notice that?) but still have the same meaning for the song as a whole.

"C'est toi c'est qui me fait" is what is heard in the french version which means "It is all that I need" (or something like that, I'm not French sweatdrop ) while the real meaning of "That's all I ask of you" in French would be "c'est tout que je te demande." as stated by Elanchana.

And I agree, that French Erik sings divine! blaugh

Ah yes. I still think it sounds funny to say "At night in slips a man" instead of "in sleep he sang to me." It just makes me think of rape. XD

Ok...*Note to self: don't translate french to Uta.* It does sound like it though. I would post some of my own translations, but I take spanish. crying Sadly. I had to choose before I became a phan, or it'd be french.

Still, our elementary school didn't make us take a language until we were in 6th grade!(that's cause we were gone then, and they started it.)
