I like both of them. When I read New Moon, however, I did get annoyed with all three characters. Edward because he left, Jacob because change of personality from kind and caring to total a** hole, and Bella just because I figured out what Jacob was waaay before she did and she just seemed be slow on the subject lol. But that's just me blaugh .

Neo_Qeen_Serenity I don't have that much of a beef against Jake, it's just that the poor boy can't take a HINT. I think that he's only hurting himself by trying to throw himself in Bella's life. Exactly my thoughts ^^;. I don't dislike Jake; I don't have anything against him at all. He's just... so positive though that he's hurting himself, and maybe he should have seen things a little more realistically a little earlier. Of course, Bella was the one that flirted with him first and all... But yeah. I prefer Edward, but have nothing against Jacob.

I don't really hate Jacob... I just find him a little annoying sometimes... But at times he also made me a little happy when Edward was gone... But I like Edward way more!
Vampire Alice As much as we give her a lot of credit. I don't think she's the one writing the story anymore. At our book signing, she told us how she hated to have Edward leave, and that she didn't want him to go, but he wouldn't listen. There comes a point that when you give a character so much life, that they start to write themselves. And Stephenie has definitely given her characters life. It says so on her homepage as well... She is a character writer and her characters are so alive and strong that they actually make their own decisions and she can't change it because that wouldn't fit the characters personality... Taco Satan I like both of them. I agree... But I was only annoyed with Edward for a short time... mostly because of the way he left... He was so mean to Bella... I know that it was probably necessary or else she wouldn't have let him leave but... he was so mean!
But the thing with Bella really annoyed me... She was so fast to figure out that there was something odd about Edward and she was pretty fast to figure out what as well (with Jacobs help of course)... But with Jacob it took a very long time... But I blame it a little on her depression over Edward... That probably made it a little harder to think...

i like them both... so sweet and protective... but i think a lot of the people who dislike jacob hate him because they felt like he was filler information to keep bella in the story until edward got back...

I thought that Stephenie was no more than a messenger... a person to deliver Edward and Bella's story...
Something that was there all along, wanting to get out, needing to get out, let people know.
Through Stephenie.
Don't hate me for this, please. sweatdrop It was a thought me and my friend were discussing over the phone.

Characters, especially strong characters, have a tendancy to develop on their own and don't always become who we predict they will be. They don't always do what we want them to do, because they begin to write their own story after a point. It's both exciting and scary when that happens.

Years ago, I thought of this idea (I'm sure I'm not the only one), that what if some of the books we read are real. You know, the whole other dimensional worlds and what not, and our authors are in tune with those worlds, and write out the story.
Makes me see Stephen King in a new light. wink rofl

I wanna be an author someday. 3nodding I wanna live in other worlds. I wanna get out. Sometimes I do feel like I'm trapped in a cage, a small dark room... and I wanna find the exit.
~sighs deeply~
Some people call me crazy for this. But is it really that impossible for vampires to exist?

Some people call me crazy for this. But is it really that impossible for vampires to exist?I know exactly what you mean. I thought the exact same thing. Life IS so boring. It's like, you wake up, work / school, go to sleep. A boring, never-ending, until the day you die, cycle. Sometimes, I'll break down, and think things like "this place (my house) is too small, I've got to get out of here, and see the world." and then usually, I fall asleep, and have dreams that are so life like, it's weird. I've got a whole notebook dedicated to my dreams, because I always have the best story ideas from them. Once I had a dream about a plague sweeping the world, and everybody but me, and this other boy live, so we have to go and find the reason for the plague. The dream was so scary, because in it, I was a nurse, and I kept trying to help the people who were dying, but they always died. It was SO lifelike, I woke up crying because of the faces and stench of the dead people everywhere. I was too shooken up to write it down until later that day. I've got a whole bunch of other ones, but It'd take a while to write them all down. ANYWAY!!! back on topic. I love Edward, but I do NOT hate Jacob. I feel kinda sorry for him (but not enough to want him to be with Bella, sorry). But, I don't hate him.

If you ask me, when it comes to Bella I was at a standstill with Edward and jacob. In the first book, I was all for the relationship between Edward and Bella. But when I started to read New Moon, and get to see how Jacob is, I enjoyed the thought that perhaps those two would end up together.
so in the first book, I'm all for the pairing of Edward and Bella
In the second book, I was hoping for the pairing of Jacob and Bella.
Yet if you asked me who I wanted to be paired with Bella the most. I just couldn't choose between them. If Edward hadn't left Bella, then perhaps I wouldn't have this predicament. But since he did and Jacob was the one that brought that smile back, I sort of melted for the guy.
^-^ don't kill me lol

Well, I actually love them both. Of course, I'm still mad at both of them. Edward because he left and it tormented Bella to the point where she was being idiotic enough to jump off a cliff in the middle of a storm to have her hallucination of him, and Jacob because the boy can't take a hint. While normally I like the persistent ones, Jacob just didn't know when to give up.
As it's been said, this definitely isn't just Stephenie Meyer's story now. Those characters have been given life, and I think they had it all along, something just needed to wake them up. As a writer myself I know exactly how characters can develop on their own.
After two years of constant use and development, my one main character has only traces of what she originally was left in her. I look back on my earlier writing and when I studied them I saw there were things I didn't remember writing on the paper, things I wouldn't write one my own, and it was because my characters had started taking on a like of there own.
Back on topic though, or slightly anyway, that is definitely what has happened to these characters. They've come so far. When an author writes in such detail like this the characters and the worlds become real to them and often to the dedicated readers who interpret things their own way. Edward and Bella have a lot to say, and it will be said. That much I'm fairly sure of.
On the true topic, as I said before, I don't hate Jacob, I love him but not in the way I love Edward. Jacob is a great character that I find impossible to hate, and I don't see a reason for hating him anyway.
