This is a myth about dolls I got from a book I'm reading. I'm not sure if it's a real myth or not, though. The myth says that dolls were originally made to contain spirits. They were hollow inside so spirits could easily possess them

I always do the knock on wood thing. It's kind of a habit.
I put my hat on my bed too. Nothing's ever happened.
I've heard that if you breathe when you pass a graveyard you'll be posessed by a spirit.

Heh. Very cool, though I chuckled a bit at some of them. There's a family of crows that lives by my house, and we've had bats and birds get in on occassion. I'm still kickin'. biggrin

I don't know if you find this really scary but there is a superstition called the evil eye. It is said that some people who are known to practise black magic have the evil eye and if you posses something they want and they become jealous it it will break or be lost or sometimes even may result in death of the person they envy. I know loads of people who believe in this superstition. Personally I don't like the idea of being a believer of this superstition. I personally believe it will affect the way you live.

I don't know if this is true but apparently its bad luck to look into a broken mirror because its a pagan belief that when you look into a mirror, part of your soul is kept within the mirror and if its broken and you look into it your soul will be lost.

Wasnt circles that had some kind of magical thing? because stone hegde is in circles, and they say that if one person stands in an outer circle and someone stands on the inner circle then the person on the outer circle cant hear what the person on the inner circle is saying.
And i see crows all the time, i love them =D they squark all the time near me. first time was when i was like, 5. and i am perfectly fine =]
And, arnt Mirrors just polished metal that reflects light? i need to read up on these things >.> i can understand why they would think that its their soul or a demon, and since its reflecting then i think that it would be possible to see ghosts and demons in them.

Hm, a LOAD of my friends believe in this one, Where if you're sitting down, and somebody older than you steps over you, if they don't go back over you the opposite way, you'll never grow again.

I'm Chinese, so here are a few I've put up with.
- Don't wear inscet-related motifs, jewellery or designs. I hate this; my mom never lets me wear butterfly clips of stuff like that, because they're apparently "souls of the dead".
- If you have to pee on a tree, you must first say "Please excuse me while I pee" or the tree spirit's going to get you. (Never done that, but there are plenty of local stories of people who have.)
- No white ribbons or accessories on the hair (Signifies mourning)
- If a black cat jumps over a coffin (the family normally lays the coffin on the floor of the house on the first night) then the corpse will get out. And it won't go back into the coffin until it brings something back with it.
There is a Malay superstition to carry around a nail or some sharp object with them. There is the legend of the pontianak, the spirit of a woman who died during childbirth who normally takes the shape of either a beautiful lady or a bird with the head of an old woman's. The sharp object is supposed to ward off the spirit.
