Darkness isnt evil. Darkness is darkness, just like pie is pie.

darkness isn't evil. It's just that darkness has become a metaphor for evil, because it's something that many people are afraid of.

oh course it's not evil! The only evil I associate with it is People's ignorance about it - and that has nothing to do with 'darkness' itself.

Plus, what is "evil"??

i believe a power or ability is not evil, nor can it be, but the use of it is. any skill used to harm another is evil, but used to help any skill is good, so if you use darkness to help people, it cannot be evil because evil will not help people.

theres my two cents ^^

I don't see it as good or bad... its just a different sort of energy. I do admit, though.... I see darkness as negative and light as positive... but that still doesn't make one good or the other bad..

That is exactly how I see it. Like two sides of a magnet. Negative charge and postive charge. Both of the same level. How it is used decides its alignment.

This is a belief in the core of my soul. Please discuss.

Thanks honey! So few people get this, but it really is true. To me, darkness and light are just balance... and evil isn't really evil, nor is good really good. This is because of two main concepts that I at least whole heartedly believe in.

The first is simply that every monster was once a victim. How can you hate the man who beat you knowing he dose it because he himself is so wounded and so lost that the only way he knows to reach out to people is to destroy them? I can't condone what he dose in any sense, but I can understand him, and if I can do that... well then it would be cruel to hate him wouldn't it? Knowing how much he suffers I can't imagine not wanting to help him.

The second concept is that of balance. To me, evil is not evil, just a way to perpetuate good, and good is just a way to perpetuate evil in return. If a woman is raped she could do two things. She could cower and hide, crippled by the fear of her attacker, or she could become strong and fight back against what happened to her. If she fights, be it against her actual attacker, or against the idea of the attack, then she will give the women doomed to cower hope. She will give them a vision, no matter how small her reach might me, into the strength inside of them, and she will give them a chance to escape from the dark pit that their rape put them in (weather they take the opportunity or let it pass is completely up to them), and once you leave the pit any sunshine feels glorious. And so an evil act creates good. And the righteous war these women fight will inevitably bring about evil, be it in murdering their attacker, or raping another to somehow regain their control. Thus good and evil are nothing but different sides to the scale. Without one there is no balance and the system will fall apart... that's how I see it anyways.

And thus do I get off my little soap box.

Darkness is represented as "evil" (lol Evil is all in your imagination) because humans have a species wide fear of the dark. It's just like death as it represents the pinnacle of our fear of the unknown.

I prefer to see things in shades of grey, it makes explaining things easier. I haven't seen darkness as evil in a long time. I only saw it as such because that was how the concept of darkness was presented to me. I don't associate the two anymore mainly because I don't believe in the concept of good and evil anymore, I don't like absolutes, and those concepts down to their basic foundations are absolutes in my opinion.

People are born from darkness into a world of light where they learn to fear what they can't see or understand. From that fear darkness because scary and evil, but when people die they return to that darkness, they return to the comfort of where they were born.
I don't care what you believe happens when someone dies, when you lose consciousness, you can no longer see, and so light no longer registers in your brain, and you see nothing but darkness. I'm not going into religious beliefs with that statement.

I think its just easier way to explain good and bad by saying good is light and evil is dark.

lol Darkness just means no light really, or the night
Nothing evil about day rotations.
The only evil in this world is the evil some of us create for ourselves, those bad dark entities lol

Darkness is not good, and it is not evil. It's the same for light. Darkness, for me, is hiding, waiting, thinking, contemplating. Light is when ideas become physical things, and the waiting is over.

Seeing darkness as evil is a popular conception. I see it as neither good or evil. It can be either way, depends on how you look at it.
