Water? Ugh. Best leave that to her partner. Citrine took a seat on the bank of the stream, sniffing at the water disdainfully and seeming to forget about tormenting Keir. Yuck. She'd have nothing to do with the stuff other than to drink it, and it was fine by her that Kayin didn't ask for the dragons to jump in and join the children in the race.
Indigo, on the other hand, was happy to hike up her pants and plunge into the water. "Hah~!" she trilled. "This is gonna be fun!" And then she almost missed the cue to go, so quiet was Kayin's voice. She blinked once as the others began running, then was after them in a moment, head down, focus on keeping her balance in the slick muck of the bottom. Not an auspicious start, but darn it, she wasn't going to let anyone else win without a fight for it!

Lucía listens the professor, so balance in the water and a race, cool. Before entering in the water she takes off her shoes and socks, better if she feels the bottom of the river.
Already inside the river she looks at her partners and when the professor says 1 2 3 some they leave running very quickly. She waits a moment to notice the pressure of the water toward a side and the irregular of the bottom, then she runs not very quick but adjusting her feet in the bottom.

Oh this would be grand! Eyes attempting to study the bottom, Sahra took note of her more favored, sloppy, slick mucky-ish bottom. It wasn't anything short of another day in the swamp, just maybe with a bit more actual water instead of all mud and muck. Okay, she told herself, I'm going to try and take this slow, well, at least not start out fast. The cheetah remembered the faults of just speeding of, it would be even more of a disadvantage than an advantage. So, she put one foot into the water, then the other right after, and started in after the others at a nice steady pace.

1,2,3,4-Startled, Ala has a higher chance of falling 1,2,3-Next is chath, who flailed to try and keep his balance, hopefully his slicker skin won't cause too much trouble for him. 1,2-Indigo's focus and body type gives her one of the lesser chances, a 1 will cause a fall. 1-Lucia went the slowest, taking her time, and trying to note the water pressure, has very little odds of falling. 1,2- Sahra's practice and claws will help her stay up, but mostly the slower pace.

Ah good, they really had been listening to his words of wisdom, for the most part, Ala was moving too fast, he noted, but seemed to be managing her balance for now, perhaps the added digits for climbing were helping her move along the rocky bottum. Chath nearly slipped but his arms seemed to catch himself, and he started progressing better than before. Indigo would feel a rock shift out from under her, but doesn't seem to throw her off too much. Lucia was fairing the best, slow and steady wins the race, she'd feel a rock or two slide but she was going slow enough to react to it. And behind her was Sahra, all were doing fairly well, most of them seemed to recognize that if they went too fast against the water they would come to a very wet fall, and all were reletivly close... Alaqua was holding the lead, but it seemed to be any man's race.
As they moved upstream a bit, they would reach a two ft deep step, hard to see unless one was paying strict attention to it, and in it, the water would rise another two inches, increasing the pressure of the water, and the rocks seemed to get slicker.
Kayin followed his little group on land, smiling softly to himself. Ah, the joys of molding young minds.
((Sorry it took so long. ^_^;; Had Christmas stuff to deal with. I'm back now! ))

Chath was not in the lead but he didn't care, he wanted to make sure he did well in this class, unlike his magic class. when the drop came his eyes widened in surprise and his tail shifted to the right to balance him. He was lucky to have a tail act like a rudder, though the edge of his shorts still got a soaking. The rocks were slimey in the deeper and colder water. As much as he liked water he shivered and felt the current push against him. He leaned forward like there was a strong wind and trudged onward, his speed decreasing as he made sure his footing was still secure.

She was leading! Unfortunately, the koala girl was ahead of all the other kids, so she couldn't see that they were moving slower than her to keep from slipping. She didn't hear any loud splashes as of yet, so she kept moving forward, though a little slower since she wasn't as startled now. Still, she seemed to moving quicker than was probably smart.
At the drop, the girl's eyes widened. She had not been expecting that! She did notice that the water was harder to move in.
Bob trotted after the teacher, watching the kids move through the water.

Slow and steady wins the race, right? If she remembered correctly, her mother always told her that she could not rush things, or else her effectiveness and productivity levels would drop. That was definitely not good; she needed to soak up and learn as much and she could from this class, for her balances sake. Ever since she started reaching higher running levels, she had started having balance issues.
Edging forward, Sahra was struggling to keep her grip on the grimy river bottom. And it was getting worse! Not only was the water slowly getting deeper, and the water was pushing harder, and harder against her every new inch. It wanted her to fall over, how evil, and vial, and cruel, and...evil! But man was the water getting cold. She hoped it wouldn't get to much deeper, or else she might not be able to make it!

So far, so good! Indigo felt the rock start to slide beneath her foot, throwing out her uppers for balance and wobbling a moment in place. A moment later and she was moving forward again, visibly shivering--not from the cold, but the frisson of adrenaline down her spine. That was close! Consequently she slowed her pace--if only a little--and picked her steps a little more carefully. The step nearly gave her another jolt; she didn't see it until she was right on top of it, but tried to maintain her pace against the increased water pressure.
Bored, and more than a little curious, Citrine bounded after Bob, tail flicking to and fro like a curious cat's.

((Skipping lucia's post)) Now that the current shifted, the odds of falling are easier. Chath - 1, 2 Alaqua - 1, 2, 3, 4 Sahra - 1, 2 Indigo - 1, 2, 3 Lucia - 1, 2

Chath makes it over the drop just fine, perhaps with the aid of his tail, and is able to move alittle bit faster. Alaqua, if only out of sheer luck, is managing to keep her faster pace, though as she moves forward two of the rocks will shift under her weight, giving her a quick and sudden drop, but not knocking her off her feet. Sahra also barely manages to make it, the current pushes her off her balance just a bit, causing her to stop breifly and lean forward to regain her footing. Indigo tried to keep her pace in the new current, and while perhaps doing well with that, it just wasn't enough, another rock slips, the current catches her legs, and with a splash she met the water, bumping lightly against the botum in a sitting position, she'd be up to her shoulders. And last, Lucia still at the slowest pace, manages to keep trudging on, even pick up her pace alittle.
Kayin smiled alittle, pausing at the fall to make sure the girl was alright. She should be, the class was designed this way after all, but still it was never fun to fall on rocks. So, overall, he wanted to make sure she'd be fine and able to keep on with the assignment. He couldn't say that he wasn't slightly amused though, even if it was for education purpouses watching a group of kids fight a current of water was indeed something to smile at. That and he could relate, the days of his childhood fishing in a wild stream and falling repetitivly would never cease to come back at times like this.

"Wh--whoa--oh--oh!"
Indigo flailed with all four arms as she went over the drop and the footing proved more treacherous than she'd anticipated. This time she didn't manage to recover, and went down with a bump and a splash. Fortunately, she had no tailbone to bruise, so other than being momentarily stunned, the velvet worm was unhurt. "Wha," she managed, at length, blinking once as the others ran past her.
Catching up with the racers (she'd been distracted by something interesting in the miniature forest), Citrine took one look at the situation, and promptly sat down on her haunches and started laughing.
That certainly stung Indigo's pride. She bolted back to her feet, shooting her dragon a dirty look, before catching her lower lip in her teeth and starting forward again. This time, though all of her attention (even her antennae) was on the rocks beneath her feet, she nearly ran, trying to make up the ground she'd lost.

Chath paused and looked over his shoulder to see Indigo slip and fall into the water. His eyes searched her face for any signs of pain but she had soon gotten back up soaked tough unharmed. His pause would cost him though, having stood still for even a moment when he moved forward again the rocks slid and cause him to shoot him arms out to the side to regain his balance, a near fall for sure thank god for tails. Another puase. This was going to cost him big time for being in the lead. Even if it was just a moment.

Oh no! "Whoops!" Sahra squeaked, nearly slipping on the gross river bottom. A loud scrape could be heard as the felines permanently extended claws scraped against the rocks. She nearly put her hands straight down into the water, an automatic reaction, but managed to slowly regain her balance after stopping for a short time.
Okay, She said soothingly to herself, Everything’s fine now, all I need to do is keep going, slow, my claws will keep me anchored decently...hopefully.
The cheetah was happy for the least that she hadn't fallen yet, she had had enough of crashing for one day. Sliding into a fence filled that requirement; no more head aches, or bottom aches for her, hopefully! Padding onward, slowly she attempted to pick up a little bit of speed, although not to much, she wasn't sure what she was able to handle in these conditions, so she would have to accelerate at a pace where she could find out.

"Whoa!" Alaqua was startled at the drop and her near fall, but was relieved that she managed to keep her balance. Maybe climbing trees a lot was helping her? She heard a splash behind her, but didn't look back. Oh well, she'd find out who fell later on. It wouldn't be that hard, it'd be whoever was the wetest of them all.
