Saiyanchick07 Adult stem cells can be found in lots o' places.... fat tissue for one 3nodding Yes... it's a pointless waste... the only reason it's being pushed so much is because people are mad that the gov. isn't funding more stuff w/ our tax money and it makes them look bad cause the gov wont support it more xp love the way they fail to take into account that Bush was the one who finally granted limited funding.....even CLINTON (get rid of p/b abortion ban guy) wouldn't do that.

My five cents again lol blaugh In my opinion, using stem cells from fetus, wrong. I think that is incredibly wrong in so many ways, just me. And there are other places to get it, and the thing that disgusts me the most, which I found out in Bio class, is that fetus' can be harvested, create fetus' just to use them in stem cell research! That is horribly wrong, morbid, and disgusting in my opinion. Personally even if fetus were the only resource for this and I somehow needed them, I would rather go without them then know that what I was recieving was the life taken from a child who never had a chance. I know its a strong opinion, but I cant help what I believe or how I feel, its just me.

As a scientist, no one can persuade me that stem cell research is wrong. Taking stem cells from placentas is not wrong, nor in my opinion will it ever be. Taking them from embryos is wrong. Fair enough.
But as with many issues this is somthing i agree with strongly, yet not with the way some researchers choose to do it.
Im all for testing medicines for example, but would argue all the way into the gates of hell that animal testing is wrong. No one could come close to making me dispute that for a nanosecond. I dont see why people cant just test things on stem cells taken from placentas or adult fat cells. Then everyone would be happy.

Oh, I found another thread on Stem Cell research. ^ ^
All of the things I'm reading here are really, very, interesting. Just bumping it up in case someone wants this to the PLG-ED, too.

kp606 I heard of a list IRL that listed the advantages (aka cures that have been found and are being worked on) of adult stem cells and embryonic stem cells. Apparently Adult Stem Cells have a litte over 35 possible cures and treatments...embryonic has none or speculation. I just don't get it. Reeves...is this your legacy? It sounds that they would have better luck with adult stems cells, so why not stick with that then?

Really I can't tell for sure if I support it or not. I'm leaning toward supporting embryotic stem cell research. Personally I think even if the possibility is small there ought to be some research done. I would however want some restictions placed, such as no harvesting embroys solely to experiment on. I know I don't support abortion, but the fact is that it is legal and why not try and bring some sort of hapiness out of the tragedy. I support adult stem cell research whole heartedly. It just seems like to me even if its only a chance we should try it, thinking about any future biological children I might have, I don't want them growing up with the same problems I have.

But there comes the other side to that, Karl.
Who're you to determine which embryos are to be tested and which shouldn't be?
Of course, I can understand your intentions and your ideas. But if we can make the same progress in the medical field today without destroying a human being, I see absolutely no reason to support embryonic stem cell research that does.

Hmmm, but then again, there are thousands of eggs left over from fertility clinics. I'm all for putting them up to help people....
Maybe that's your grandfather, but many of the people in the retirement homes where I live are FOR stem-cell research.

I compleatly agree with you. I don't see why the future generation has to die so that the older generation can get some cure when they're just going to die anyway. stare That idea about taking cells from adults is also a very good idea. Much better than taking it from embryos.
