Ter lifted a hand up instantly, "Me!" He said, then hesitated before shaking his head, "Well not me me. My brother but watched." He explained. That was included in the experiancing of magic right? He saw the stuff even if he didn't try it himself... mostly because he had NO clue where to start with it. No clue in the least but hey that was what these classes were for right?

Fleur shook his head before thinking better about it and glancing at Argent. "Not real magic, but...do the dragons count?" he asked. He had always read that dragons were magical creatures though Argent seemed more like a big, pretty lizard to him. "I always heard they were magical animals..."
Argent rolled her eyes up at him from where she had curled around his desk, not quite sure she qualified either despite everything they had learned in the informational class. Then again, the teacher had said she could shape shift when she got older - maybe that qualified as magical?

Chath looked to the students how had showed up late and then smiled, he raised his hand personally proud of his own accomplishments. "Miss I have finished three lessons in magic, i know how to summon and shoot water." he concluded his face beaming with pride. Maybe he had the most experience here...with the excepetion of the teacher of course.

Raven remained silent as she listened to the students. One had no experience. That was not entirely unexpected, considering who the child was. One had watched- his brother, a promising student in another class. That was also quite normal, and Raven nodded in approval. It was often best to start with observation. One asked a question regarding dragons, which had a messy answer that Raven would have to simplify. And one had apparently used a good deal of magic already.
"I see," she murmured. "Mister Emehud, might you have learned these skills from a certain Professor Barkhelm?"
If so, she would have more than one bone to pick with that teacher. Not wanting to make him the subject of her class, Raven quickly added "And while dragons have a great magical capacity, and are certainly not mundane, they do not quite count in this instance. We will get into the abilities of dragons and other magical creatures next semester, after you have some grounding."

Nibal turned to look at the student that the teacher was talking to. An interesting looking boy and he had a black dragon. Nibal was more interested in the dragons accompaning the kids than the kids themselves. There was a black dragon, a silver one, and he thought the other one was a wyvern, if he could remember his dad's books correctly. Of course, none compared to his own green, but that was personal preference.
Gah! He was getting distracted. Nibal turned his attention back to the instructor, pausing to pull out his notebook and pencil since it seemed that there was going to be notes to take.

"Oh..." Fleur murmured, his ears twitching. So he was sort of right but not quite. He got the hint though - dragons need not apply today, so he did not bring it up again. Instead, he worked at getting his hair out of his face as best he could, awkwardly tying his hair into a miniature ponytail and tucking the bangs blocking his good eye behind one ear. Satisfied, he pulled out his notebook then felt around for a pencil so he could take notes. He was very excited to get started with school - real school! Not just lessons in reading, writing, history, and math from Chrysler and science and computers from Stevie, but real, sitting-in-a-desk, taking-notes, and taking-tests school!

Chath nodded his head at his teachers question. Not use to having his last named used, he gave a half grin. "Yes I learned a lot from Mr..uh Barkhelm." He confirmed his saying by nodding his head again.
So dragons were all magical? Made sense.. did acid count though? Raising his hand, he quickly brought it back down. She mentioned that subject would be covered in later classes.
"Um..." he raised his hand again changing his question. "Excuse me, but what will we be learning this class?" He asked as politely as he could.

At least the other students seemed to get the message. But that one upstart, the one who had "learned" from Professor Barkhelm... Raven could tell she would have to keep an eye on him. Especially when he started asking unsolicited and irrelevant questions.
"You will find out, Mister Emehud, if you would let me teach it. Now, I have a question for you- and for all of you," she added, opening up the class. "What is magic?"

Nibal chewed on his pencil as he thought. How did you describe magic? There were so many aspects of it that a simple definition wasn't possible. Right? The boy couldn't think of one and he glanced over at the one boy who'd already had classes in magic. Maybe he knew what the answer was.
Kalseru was amusing herself by chewing on one of the legs to the chair that Nibal was sitting in.

Chath couldn't figure it out be he had a distinct feeling this teacher didn't like him very much. When the next question was asked he stopped himself from putting his hand up. He wasn't entirely clear on what Magic was. He knew that his magic was fulled by the soul, but he didn't dare answer.
Fidgeting in his seat he had a distinct feeling this class was going to turn into a nightmare.

Fleur paused to think about that, twitching his ears as he tried to come up with a description that would please the teacher since his question about dragons seemed to put her on the defense. "Magic is...the feelings and energy that surrounds us all day, every day?" he offered, adjusting his bangs again with a flowery hair clip he dug out of his pack. "It's different for everyone, isn't it?"

What was magic? It was what Ligeia used, it was able to call up ice and freeze things, it was... "Power!" Ter said, "Power over stuff, making things do stuff for you." Like Ligeia making water freeze. He wanted power like that! Well not over ice that stuff was way to cold but over something would be great, something more useful.

Only half of the class ventured answers? What a disappointment. Sighing, Raven thought on how to deal with the two students who had offered their opinions. They were quite different, and while both touched on the meaning she wanted to express, neither was close enough for her.
"While magic can be experienced in different ways by different people," Raven began, "there is an accepted definition that the magical scholars have crafted in order to facilitate the teaching of spellcasting in schools. While there are of course differences in teaching methods, the foundation work is in many ways the same even in different schools of thought. As for magic being made of energy and feelings... that is both correct and incorrect, as you will see."
That was the more complicated one. The other answer was more of what Raven expected, and quite easy to deal with. "While magic certainly involves power, young man, if you think that is all there is to it, you are sorely mistaken. Power is only part, and if you don't learn how to use it wisely, you will probably end up harming yourself and others. Which is the only reason you're here- to learn to control yourselves. Have I made myself clear?"

"Control." He mused, he wondered if that was why Ligeia was such a stick in the mud? It would make sense if you asked him, he sat forward in his seat some, coils shifting, then realized he should no doubt answer the teacher, "Yes, clear." He agreed. Alright, he would have to pay strict attention, if he could understand magic better then he could understand Ligiea better.
Ok, so she had said that power was part of it and then there were her answers to those ahead of his answer... he wondered if he should be taking notes... no doubt. He reached down to dig around in the bag he'd brought along to dig out a notebook and a chewed on pencil. He opened it to the first page to scribble down in some rather awful handwriting that few could decipher what the teacher had said so far.
He wondered if he should steal Ligeia's notebook and see what it said.

Chath, felt himself stare. Forcing himself to look down at his notebook instead he took notes. this...was much different from thomas's class. Though Thomas was a cold character, he could feel a strength stem from it. This teacher...just seemed plain impatient. But then again she knew magic more than he did. She ould very much have a point. Thankgod she couldn't read his mind right now.
Taking down notes, about power and control he could only nod to himself. those who acted rashly tended to hurt those around them or themselves as well... he could accurately place Keir in that catagory...stupid dragon.
