Nezumi Kakashi *snorts* Oh, psh, yeah....Knee-length skirts, almost no instances of shoulders or cleavage showing, knee-length socks.....total whores. (Sarcasm) 'Cause you know, those people out there wearing washcloths for skirts, under wear up their asses, and shirts that show more cleavage than fabric are TOTALLY not sluts. It makes me laugh when people call Lolita a slutty fashion...especially as some fourteen-year-old hussy struts by in a mini skirt and tubetop when she's got no buisness being in either. My mom thinks it's funny too, just by looking at the clothes she can tell it's much more conservative than many other fashions she's seen today. Except maybe Islamic women who cover themselves head to foot. razz That actually happened to me on the last day of school. The retarded security guard comes up to me and goes "I'm not sure about your outfit...." Me: ........*lolita*........what does that mean? Her: Well, it looks like something that a girl your age shouldn't be wearing. Me:....................................so what should I be wearing...? A tank and shortshorts like that girl over there? (both are against our dress code) So she drags me into the office, me griping hte whole way, pointing out people in dresscode, her ignoring me. I get in and she goes; "She looks to me like she's trying to be in some porn." My jaw drops to the ground and I'm trying my hardest not to start beating her over the head with my frilly parasol. Instead I calmly ask: "And why do I look like some slut when I'm in a kneelength skirt and carrying a teddy bear bag around with me?" She goes on to explain the whole phedophile thing, I'm imagining a painful, emo-riffic death for her, and my counselor comes in.... "What's she doing in here?" "I'm not sure about her outfit...." "Come here, hun lemme see...AWWW look how cute that is! Twirl around baby!" I twirl. "Look how cute! Go on back to class, hun." As I leave I bid her a cheery and polite goodbye. ^-^ That security guard now glares at me every single day. >3 I love your counselor, that was a wonderful story. I'm assuming you're in high school? I've been out of high school for almost 4 years now, but even when I went the girls had strapless shirts, short skirts, constantly breaking dress code, even now I see grown women, and young teens dressing like whores. I go out in public occasionaly in GL dresses, and skirts, (I dont have very many so its not an every day thing, hopefully Ill get around to making more) and I see these people dressed their "fashionable" way, and I think to my GL clothed self, I am doing nothing wrong, Im not showing off any part of my body I shouldnt, and at least Im not dressed like a common whore. I do get stared at by small children, Im too afraid to look at the adults reactions though crying . Some people younger than myself have told me they like parts of my outfit, and even a couple adults have said my outfit was cute. Its best just to ignore all the stares, and not let them freak you out.

Well, they're probably generalizing it too much. You know, assuming that all of the fashion is a certain way after seeing one kind of dress. Many people think of the porn version of lolita or french maid outfits when they first see a Gothic Lolita dress, so they just assume right away that that's how it is. If they could see all the different types of lolita and how modest alot of them are, maybe they'd change their minds.
I hate that "French maid" stereotyping. T.T

ponytacute79894 yeah like you guys were saying, like the sleeves of some dresses are really really long!! and so are the colars. i dont get how people can call it slutty. im l;ucky though that my mom thinks its cute and she would let me wear lolita clothes. she was about to buy me a lolita dress once too!!! but it was to expensive. But a lot of perverts always have to take something and turn it bad. like strippers used kimonos.and they have like turned them super short and you can see the cleavage. and they do the same with loli dresses now. it gets me so mad. everyone in the mall or whatever who call loli dresses slutty....well they all look the same wearing jeans and hollister shirts. wtf? Reminds me of my school's cheerleader tryouts...I attend them to watch them fall. >3 But when I went with my sister.... It was literally an ocean of the same color jeans, the same colors and types of shirts, about a million Hollister labels. And THEy were looking at US like WE were the freaks. eek I wanted to punch one, but hte sleeves of my dress were a little tight and a punch might have torn it. >.> French maids don't even really dress like that. xD my grandma went to France and had a maid for her hotel...she said she was wearing those weird hospital-gown-like dresses that American maids wear. >.> If I wanted to dress like a French maid, I'd be wearing a smock instead of a pretty dress that could easily get ruined doing housework.

rofl I loved the counselor story, I would be so scared, but it turned out so funny in the end. rofl I'm pretty sure I wouldn't laugh at the cheerleaders, but I would seriously want to. xd They are the bane of my existence sometimes.. Once, I was sitting on the floor with my friend, and we were in the way of one of them. She just stared at us like we were mud until we noticed and were polite enough to move aside for her. And she just sniffed and brushed past us. No "excuse me" or "sorry" or even a "Hey, get outta my way". I don't like people who are like her... But sometimes I feel bad for them, because they're always pretty and popular, but they have been like that for so long that they don't know how to treat others nicely. And once they hit college and the adult world, they're going to get hit full strength by people who are actually their superiors in the workplace, then not know any better than to treat them disrespectfully. So they'll have trouble for a while. neutral
Honestly, I haven't had a whole lot of trouble with dressing Lolita in public. At school, I noticed that a lot of people would look me up and down rather conspicuously when they'd pass me in the hall, but no rude comments. Except my friend's little brother once said I looked like a maid. stare Once, my Latin teacher said I looked Asian. (I am Asian.) ......

I was scared I'd get sent home until my counselor came in. ^-^ I get snappy when I'm scared. xD But she's awesome, she's one of those rather large black ladies with a big attitude you see on tv and she loves me to death. xD it's so funny. Argh I hate it when people DO that! and then they act like it's your fault that THEY don't have the brain mass to open their mouth and say excuse me. Or when you're walking in a crowded hall and a mass of them just STOP. And you're trying to get around them, but the only way is it push through, and when you do they SCREAM at you like it's your fault their legs stopped working. I step on their feet with my boots. stare xDDDD I can jsut see that.... "You look Asian!!" "......I AM Asian..... sweatdrop " XDDD I get people asking me if I'm Asian sometimes. O-o; Which baffles me, cause I'm German and Polish....xD;;;; I don't have a drop of Asia in me, and people are all "Where are you from?" and I just stare, unsure if they're making fun of me or just STUPID. I can see confusing Chinese adn Japanese people (I can USUALLY tell.), but....situations like that are ridiculous....I don't look anywhere near being Asian, or even mixed. xD

Stop Dressing Your Six-Year-Old Like a Skank: And Other Words of Delicate Southern Wisdom by Celia Rivenbark
Personally, I have [and actually do enjoy wearing on occasion] short skirts and fairly low-cut tops. I don't wear them to classes or formal functions, and I'm not a whore, slut or trollop. I would never dress my children this way, nor allow them to dress themselves that way until they understand the reactions those clothes will garner. This is the same thing that my parents and I discussed when I entered high school. They agreed to allow me to pick my own clothing, but impressed upon me the importance of appropriate times and places, as well as the responses that would result.
Those garments have the same level of responsibility, in my mind, as Gothic Lolita dresses or outfits. Not just the care and management, but the attitude that you put on when you wear them. You're going to get different reactions from people, and you have to be prepared for each and every one. You have to recognize how you, yourself, feel and be prepared to wear whatever style it is you choose with dignity. To be honest, if someone looks at me and thinks I look slutty-- that's grand. The matter of it is not what they think, but how I feel about myself. I have confidence in the appearance my legs, and that means that I am going to occasionally show them off when it suits me. If anyone has a problem with that, they can stuff it down their throat and choke for all I care because it's not the clothing that makes me who I am, even if it does affect how someone looks at me. If they can't take the time to work around a superficial bit of cotton or wool, they're not worth my time.
The rare times I bother to put them on are just when I'm hanging out with my boyfriend or the like. Occasionally, I'll wear a shorter-than-normal skirt out with friends-- but usually with a long jacket or some form of leggings or the like to cover my tail. Also, I don't do short skirts in the middle of winter in Missouri-- winter in Houston, yeah, I'll do it. But that's not winter-- that's 70 degrees with a bit of gusting wind.

I can understand that. ^-^ I used to like wearing fairly short skirts too, with leggings, but I got far more whistles than I do now, which didn't sit well with me. confused Now I just get alot of stares and the occasional mean comment, which I'm much more prepared to deal with. And by deal with, I mean shoot something five times as biting and twenty times more intelligent within four seconds. XD But yeah, no problem with short skirts. ^-^ Alot of them are really cute, and I still own a few that I like to wear at home on hot days.

I'm kind of worried about you guys blatantly disliking others simply because they dress differently and fall into a different social category. Stomping on their feet 'cause they simply won't move out of your way? That's not a very loli way to act. :/
I find that just being cute and acting the part of innocent maiden works wonders. biggrin I've managed to snag guys into helping me carry books by looking cute and doll-like; have girls open doors for me; people help me open bottles and cans. biggrin It's great. All this by just being sweet and cute. x3 I'm friends with some of these preps ya'll don't like. They're unbelievably nice once you quit have preconceptions about them (yeah, I used to hate 'em too P: ). They tell me how cute I am, ask me about my newest clothing additions, really are interested in my "cute" style (I gave up trying to explain it as lolita as some of them can't grasp the term; but they're cute too <3 ). All of the school staff know me and they talk to me about my outfits and tell me how cute I am. Some of them even tell me about things they see while shopping that remind me of them. ^^; I even was almost voted most unique for Senior Superlatives. biggrin I was on the final ballot, but I was outbeat by this punkrock girl who wears a fauhawk. u.u
If you're a kind and courteous loli, you'll find that people are less likely to judge you harshly. :3
Glad your counselor got you out of that mess though. That's good. ^_^

The people at your school are nice. ;-; I asked a boy sitting behind me to "please stop cursing" and he called me a b***h and told me to stfu and continued calling his friend a whore while she respnded back with some even more shocking words. And I've had people hold doors shut on me. x.x I just go in through to other door, much to other people's amusement...most of my class rooms have two doors. xD Yeah....but my school sucks at life. xD I laugh to think about the reality check their in for when their boss yells at them for dropping the f-bomb in front of customers. >D

We must try hard, though, and it is even harder for us as Lolitas, to see through superficiality. Including our own. While prep girls dress the way they do because it's trendy and popular, I am quite sure that the majority of them do not focus as much as a Lolita does on her clothes and appearance. This is because Lolita is a great deal of an aesthetic culture and concentrates heavily on a girl looking the part of a beautiful doll. Preps and their ways are not as much "the look" as it is a mindset and the way they grew up. Some preps wear Hot Topic, and some wear clothes from Hollister and American Eagle. They can take a lot of different looks and still be considered as "preppy". However, the Lolita has many guidelines and guardrails that nearly dictate the manner in which she dresses. While she will often take on a sweet and innocent nature, it is nearly impossible to tell apart a full Lolita in body and mind from a Lolita only in body. So we must also try especially hard to not place our definitions and labels on other groups the way we do within ourselves... I could stand here wearing a teeny spaghetti strap tank top and Softies with pawprints printed on either side of my rear, and someone might label me as a prep, but am I? Goodness, no.
I kind of lost my point in there somewhere. xd Ah, well...
Just... get to know people before assuming they're nasty because of a stereotype, I am thinking.
But I understand you, Nezumi-san, and I would be probably even more bitter about that treatment than you seem to be if they did those kinds of things to me. neutral
After a while of being treated the same way by what seems to be the exact same type of person, it becomes very difficult to give them all a chance. So, I think I would just ignore them unless they seemed really friendly and genuinely wanted to know me. whee
