Hey, has anyone read "The Giver" by Lois Lowry? I had to read it last year for school, and it was about what if people didn't have suffering and misery. It's pretty good, even if the writing style sucks a bit.

It popped into my head when Khalida mentioned that neither good nor bad would exsist if suffering was removed. It's the entire plotline of the book.

Reminds me of "Equilibrium."

The Giver.....wow.....Awesome book.
No suffering, nothing.....It teaches what a world would be like without love or hate, or anything, which in that book is kinda creepy

Anyone seen Equilibrium? I'm not sure how much it lines up, but the major theme there is eliminating anger and sadness while eliminating happyness.

Never seen Equilibrium... Nor could I find a pdf of "The Giver" All most undoubtedly it will be in your local library. "The Giver" by Lois Lowry is all you should need to know to find it... (Wiki-link w/ spoilers if you can't get it at the Library: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Giver )

The Resurrection A life without suffering is impossible. A lot of things are impossible. That doesnt mean we don't talk about them.

Thus society would stagnate, lose its drive, and inevitably deteriorate until we're nothing but a bunch of idiots running around in the jungle again. Or even worse, suffering reenters the world and we are totally incapable of dealing with it and are wiped out.
