Apperently the first Canadian lesbian couple is filing for divorce. But since this is the first divorce there aren't any laws about it yet so they are having to get a judge to try to get the law revised so that they can actually get unmarried.

Hmm. Gay marriage.
Whatever.
Marriage in general doesn't interest me. If I end up getting a divorce, my hubby'd end up with half my crap. Blargh. I like the idea, but.. too complicated. I'll stick to my hippie ceremonies and handfasting and whatnot.
As for gay people getting their marriage; go for it. But, uh. Be careful what you wish for.

I'm so proud. biggrin Paul Martin made a motion today that would keep all MP's in Parliament and not let them go for their summer vacation until a Bill (Bill C-38?) on same-sex marriage is passed. cool The backseat Liberals, and the NDP and Bloc Quebecois (sorry if I spelt that wrong) agree with Paul Martin, but the Conservatives are still very against it.
I hope the motion passes. heart

personally, i don't see anything wrong with gay marriage (or not marriage) or relationships. if you love somebody, you love them no matter what race, religion, gender, age (although, if one's a minor and the other's not...), or anything else they are. and it's not just marriage. if someone's in a loving relationship with another person, society should be happy for them, not ridicule them because they're the same sex. I don't know, it just seems like love is love is love no matter what. (not to say it can't be broken or lost)

I want to get married. I don't have anyone in my life right now, but that could change. Even gay people have dreams and fantasies about the white picket fence and my sweety barbecueing in the back yard wearing some silly apron. Taking the dogs for walks together. Growing old and still being so much in love. *sigh* After typing this.....................I'm lonely. sad

Oh, well, hello there.
Gay marriage. Something needs to kept in mind. Marriage is not a Christian only practice. Marriage is also state-regulated. So there's no reason whatsoever it shouldn't be allowed. There is no reason to be against homosexuality except for homophobia. And that's just ignorant.

I'm in favor of civil unions. I'm not homophobic. But I think the idea of gay "marriage" doesn't make sense - based on the definition of marriage. I think gays should have the same rights as straight people, but I think forcing the word marriage on it is silly.
Although then again, it's just a word, and to avoid controversy over being politically correct I should probably just say "I don't care."

You know I was just remembering a fight I had with a very strong christian on gaia. He was fine with gays having 'cival unions' but he was against the actually work 'marriage' being applied as he felt that the word marriage was part of his religion. I told him that my fiance and I are athiest and that god is not invited to our wedding. In his opinion that meant that we should also not qualify for a 'marriage'. I think people really over react to the use of simple language. Why not just let everyone call the 'union' what ever they wish and make all of the government rights the same? That's what makes sense to me...
