Caden twitched an ear in the direction of the lovebird's voice and sat up slowly. He shook his head to clear away the haze of sleep and yawned. What just happened again? He looked around, recignizing the familiar front lobby of a D-corp office building. The lion turned back to Paxton and beamed up at him before his face twisted into a cute sort of confused expression as he remembered exactly what he was about to ask.
"Hey, Paxton? What exactly happened to the boss?"

It was as if someone had dumped icy cold water onto Paxton, the expression on his face fell, along with the feathers on either side of his head and his wings. What a...what kind of a question was that? To be perfectly frank, Paxton had been putting of contemplating Alan's death for as long as possible. Death...death just wasn't something that Paxton did. He had never had to talk about it before or really deal with it. Only once in his life had his experiences brought him...no, he didn't want to think about that time. With a shake of his head, Paxton’s long blonde hair tossed back and forth. God, shouldn't his mother be answering a question like this?
"He..um..." What was he supposed to say? Did you lie in a situation like this? Tell the truth?--No wonder adults never liked to be truthful.
With a sigh Paxton leaned down and took Caden's hand. "Well...he died. I don't know if you know what that means but--it's not a bad thing." Paxton averted his eyes uncomfortably, "It's just kind of a sad thing when people die...cause...it means there not coming back. Everyone dies though--"with a turn of his head Paxton caught Caden's gaze. "--But, death isn't something you should worry about. It's pointless." The lovebird added a big grin. "You should enjoy life and have fun--speaking of which, wanna go see if we can fool anyone else with our brothers act?"

He died.. The words rang in his head and the lion's jaw parted in shock. Mr. Rikery had just up and died all of a sudden?! That couldn't be true! Only goldfish did that...well, and plants.
Caden always knew when he wasn't being told the whole truth. His mother made her living from what people didn't, or couldn't, say, so it wasn't surprising that he'd gleaned a few tips here and there. He might fall for a lie if it was delivered with conviction, but he always picked up on when he wasn't being told the whole truth, which was why Wolfie usually tactfully avoiding telling anything at all. Paxton wasn't telling the whole truth.
Still, something about the lovebird's expression, warned him to swallow his questions and made his fur prickle uncomfortably. If he wasn't supposed to know, he wasn't going to go to any great lengths to find out. That was essentially the mental attitude lazy Caden applied to everything except finding those Meaty Nibbles that he wasn't supposed to eat because they were for the cats. He squeezed the larger hand around his and smiled back as charmingly as he could.
"Do I still get to call you 'Ella'?"
