Day 8 - Outside
Today I took Jynelle to the park again. She like the outdoors as much as I do. It's nice to be able to hang out with just her. I know she doesn't talk, mumble or mer, but we have ways of communication. It's almost like she can pass her emotions on to me and let me know how she feels. Or maybe it's just me. I don't know anymore.
I've been smoking more than usual lately. This whole mess with Niro and Aiden had got too me. I only smoke at night, when Jynelle isn't around to suffer from it, but now I start getting cravings during the day. Playing with Jynelle takes my mind off cigarettes, so I am truly thankful that she's around. She's a great help.

Music Shop
I've had Jynelle for what seems like a lifetime. I can't imagine life without her. I've yet to hear her speak, though I'm not itching to hear her voice anymore. We've managed to develop a way of communication without the need of one's voice. A series of hand symbols, head tilts and various other movements make up the new language, which means it's a little difficult for others to pick up on.
Today I took her out with me. I needed some new strings for my guitar so we went to the music shop first. Jynelle got so exited she had to test each and every kind of instrument they had in stock. It was insane. In the end she found one that she like most of all. I bought the flute and have asked Spider to show her how to play it. She spent hours upon hours learning and practicing a few basic songs. I'm glad she found something to entertain herself with, because I really need to find a job but don't want her to get bored on her own. I'll leave it go for a little while before I decide what to do with myself.

Awkward Situations
Jynelle is quite good with her flute now. She uses it as a way of expressing emotions, because it's so hard to do when your signing and using gestures.
Tuesdays are days I leave her with Finch and Raeli. I've been told that they enjoying spending so much time together, and apparently Raeli has been trying to teach her how to read and write. Seeing them together now, you would never have guessed how awkward it used to be when the two were together. I'm glad she's bonding with someone of her own kind. I haven't really gotten her out and about to meet anyone else. Perhaps I should do that soon. She's growing up pretty fast, if you know what I mean.

First Words
I can't believe it! Here I was thinking I would hear Nelle's voice any time soon, but when I picked her up at Finch's place she spoke to me. She said "I missed you terribly 'Cutio" and latched on to my legs almost as soon as she saw me. Neither I, nor Finch could believe it. I wasn't expecting her to be able to use a full sentence like that.
Other than that one sentence I haven't heard a word from her. Perhaps that's all she knows how to say? I wonder if it was Raeli's influence?

Just Another Entry
So nothing too terribly interesting has happened. Jynelle has started talking a little more, but only if she wants too. I haven't really got any problems with that so it's all good for me. I never would have imagined that the girl could learn so fast. Raeli's been teaching her to read and write simple words and Spider has shown her everything she knows about playing the flute. She's quite into it. She dances around the house for what seems like hours playing her flute. She's pretty cheerful considering how little she actually knows.

Breakfast in... a room!
Mercutio lay asleep on his bed. He'd been drinking the night before with Niro and didn't even know what had happened. He opened his eyes a crack and saw a bark-brown face peering down at him. "Nelle." Mercutio muttered so you could barely understand him, "What happened last night? Where the heck am I?"
Jynelle didn't answer. She only grinned and dashed out of the room, coming back with some breakfast for the hung over werewolf. "You didn't have to do that, love. Thank you." He said nodding and sitting himself upright. "It looks great, how about you join me?" He continued taking the tray she was carrying and dividing everything on it into two. Jynelle only giggled and nodded.

Breakfast in... a room! Pt2
After they'd finished their meal, Mercutio reach over and gave Jynelle a hug. "Thank you, dear it was delicious. Maybe you should teach me how to cook, no?" He complemented wondering how on earth she could cook better than he could himself.
Jynelle beamed and nodded. "I watch Finch in the kitchen and copy what he does." She giggled with a soft voice. She pulled a flute out from somewhere Mercutio couldn't see and held the mouth piece to her lips. She gently blew into the pipe and covered a few holes on the side, playing a little song she'd composed herself. Before Mercutio could say anything more, Jynelle vanished out into the kitchen again. Mercutio struggled to his feet and head his head in his hands. "Wow. I haven't felt this bad since... I was 10?" He muttered stumbling out of the room to find some pain-killers.
"Nelle, I never want to see you in the state I came home in last night, ok?" He said half-joking but serious all the same. A sudden memory hit him and Mercutio suddenly felt queezy. "Oh no! You can't be serious!?" He screamed making his headache worse. He slumped down in a chair and held his head in his hands. "I must have been so drunk last night. Wow." He said half to himself and half to Jynelle, who had stopped playing and was staring at him curiously.

Breakfast in... a room! Pt3
Mercutio sat upright again and put on an uneasy smile. "Don't worry, I just have a really bad headache and can't find any painkillers." He explained, only giving her half of the truth. He didn't want anyone to know about what he'd done the night before.
Accepting what she'd been told, Jynelle glided off to her room to put her flute away. "No more. 'Cutio sick." She called back to him. She soon emerged from the doorway again holding something in her hand.
Curious, Mercutio raised and eyebrow when she handed a box to him. He checked the label and looked back at Jynelle. "Where did these come from? A new box?" He said completely puzzled.
Jynelle started signing out what he did when he came home, and how he'd taken some of the pills before he slept. He sighed and placed them on the table before him. "I'm not going to do that again, okay? I'll make sure I don't." He promised kneeling down close to the undera's height.

Real or... just a dream?
Mercutio was dead tired by midday, as was Jynelle. They'd stayed up all night and all morning playing games and going out to the park. By the time they came back home again both were worn to the bone.
Mercutio tucked Jynelle into her bed and waited until she was asleep before crashing on the couch in the living room. He found it a little more comfortable when he wanted to get to sleep faster. It wasn't long before he was dead to the world.
When he woke up, 'Cutio found Jynelle asleep on the floor beside him. He sat upright and yawned feeling strangely tired still. He stood up and went to the kitchen to make a coffee and hopefully wake up properly when he noticed something strange. There was a picture on the wall of two people. A young man and a young woman he'd never even seen in his life. Jynelle soon joined him staring at the picture with a curious expression before looking up at the werewolf. "Who's that?" The undera asked confused. "Not sure. I don't remember ever seeing them before. Maybe Niro or someone is playing a joke, eh?" He said before jumping at a sudden knock on the front door.
Before he could answer the door opened and in strode the woman from the picture. She gave Mercutio a strange look and smiled cheerfully. "He's been having fun without me has he?" She asked not even noticing Jynelle. "Where is he anyways?" She added looking around the room and ducking her head into the bedroom.
"Er. Where's who?" Mercutio asked without a clue who this woman was or what she was doing here. "The guy you've just been fooling around with, stupid. Mercutio Jaklyn. You must have been drunk or something if you don't remember." She chuckled and shook her head. She then held out her hand to Mercutio to shake, "My name's Niro. I'm his half-sister."
Mercutio sat bolt upright with eyes wide open. "What the..." He muttered looking around his apartment to find the room back to normal. Jynelle was also awake now and staring up at him from the floor. "Mercutio. I had a dream that Niro was a girl and that the room changed." She said with a little giggle. Mercutio laughed as well and shook his head. "So did I." He said flopping back down on the couch and falling asleep again.

Refreshing a promise.
Jynelle made a deal with her owner that they'd never mention the dream they both had about the girl Niro, knowing it would upset him. Mercutio re-promised he would watch how much he drank and smoked after already breaking it once.
"I swear on my life and the existence of everything I love, I will not get drunk completely off my face or smoke more than a box of cigarettes each week." He said holding his hand up beside his head and his palm showing to his witness. "Good 'Cuti." The dryad replied with a cheerful smile, "Don't break it or I'll tell on you." She'd been assigned the job of spying on Mercutio's habits by Niro, because he couldn't be there himself 24/7.
Mercutio just giggled and gave the little dryad a hug. "I'm sorry. Raelly, I am." He said even though the undera clearly already knew he was.

Scared in the Dark
Jynelle woke up late at night from a nightmare. The wind was blowing wildly outside, causing the branches of the tree next to Jynelle's window to tap and scrap on the glass. A small shiver ran down the young undera's back and the little creature ducked under her covers. There was a sudden flash of lightning making Jynelle tense. She wanted desperately to call out, but for some reason couldn't find her voice. Signing wasn't going to be a very useful source of communication now.
The room was almost pitch black with the curtains of her window shut. She looked down at the floor expecting to see something, but instead saw an eternal dark nothingness below her. For some reason there were no lights on in the apartment. Usually Mercutio would be awake until late morning. What changed?
Another flash of lightning lit the room and without thinking Jynelle bolted out of be and into the main room. She pressed herself against a wall she couldn't see and looked around. It was too dark to see anything past you nose. Again she tried to call out, but couldn't even murmur a note.
Yet another flash of lightning and this time a loud crash of thunder to go with it. Something on the couch rose up in the darkness, which the poor undera couldn't make out. She started to breath heavier afraid of the possibilities.
"Jynelle? What are you doing up, love?" A familiar voice asked her as the figure drew closer. The undera sighed with relief and lowered her gaze. "Peris. I'm sorry. Where's Mercutio?" Jynelle asked looking up again when the woman turned the light on. "He's out Dear. He'll be back by morning. He asked that I took care of you while he wasn't here." The calm voice reassured the youngster, "You were scared were you? Come along and I'll sleep in your bed with you if you want." Jynelle lit up and nodded with a smile before the two went back to Jynelle's bedroom.

Another Night on the Street
It was late. Around a quarter to twelve. Mercutio and Jynelle were out for another walk. The werewolf had agreed not to go anywhere alone. Not after what happened the other night.
He rubbed the red and white bandage around his wrist looking down on Jynelle who was beside him in the shadows. "Does it still hurt a lot?" She asked looking up at him concerned. She'd grown since last time they were out and she was much more noticeable to those who passed. The werewolf nodded and looked on ahead. "Every second, of every hour, of every day." He answered in a rather dull tone.
His should hurt a lot too, having been cut in both places. What made it all worse was that he was right-handed. Every time he did something it caused even more pain. "I's never going to heal. He said it would take years, but even then it won't. My shoulder will, but my forearm... It's just in a really inconvenient place." He explained leaving his arm be. "Don't go anywhere alone." Jynelle instructed slipping her hand into Mercutio's left. The werewolf nodded. He didn't want to anyway.

Plant healer?
It'd been a while since Ruth came to stay with Mercutio. At first is was only for a few days, but on the day Peris was supposed to collect the child she was no where to be found. Another 3 days had past and still no one knew where the woman was or whether she intended to get her back. This however was not a problem for Jynelle. The two were pretty much the same hight and the same age mentally. The dryad wasn't alone anymore. Someone to play with while Mercutio went about his own business.
"Ruthy likes music?" Jynelle asked the girl with a soft smile. Jynelle loved music herself. It was her life. Lately she'd reverted back to using her flute to communicate with the other house members, though Ruth wasn't quite with it all the time. "yes. Ruth like Jynelle's music best of all. It's very pretty. It makes me feel all happy inside." Ruth said with a smile. She let out a soft giggle and hugged the tree spirit. "Jynelle is fun fun fun!" She added, though the though kind of got her down. She was missing her Leon. She never treated him nicely, but still she liked having him around. She even loved him in a sisterly way.
Jynelle sensed the slight sadness of girl's thoughts and brought it upon herself to make her feel better. "Can I show Ruthy a special trick? I learned how just a little while ago." Jynelle said taking the girl's hand in hers and dragging her over to a dead plant on the balcony. Confused Ruth stumbled along behind her, her puzzled expression more noticeable when she was brought before the dead plant. She was about to speak when Jynelle held a finger to her lips.
The dryad took a deep breath before lifting her flute to her lips. A few seconds later she was playing a beautiful song that told of great old forests and the wonderful creatures that inhabited it. Ruth was still confused at first, but her expression soon changed to that of amazement when the dead plant before her started to flourish once again. The girl didn't know what to say. The sight was truly magical, like a scene from a fantasy movie. The plant grew bigger and healthier as the dryad played her most prized possession. Soon it had grown at least seven times bigger than it would have been were it alive to start with.
Jynelle rounded off her song with a long note, and lowered the flute again to take a look at her handiwork. "Now the plant is happy again. The plants like my music too... but they don't stay happy very long. They need someone to look after it and keep it alive." the dryad explained with a slightly saddened smile. She didn't like the way dying plants were neglected and she didn't like to see them dead.
"I saw... I saw the forest... in your song... It was big and full of lots of old trees... it was like I was flying between them like a dragonfly." Ruth said turning to Jynelle. It was amazing. Jynelle's music was magical.

Magic Music
It was a rainy day and the three tenants where seated at the dining table eating sandwiches, save for Jynelle who didn't eat much of anything these days. "Yeah. Jyn plays magic music. She's very special." Ruth confirmed to Mercutio. The girl had a tendency to do that. Especially when Mercutio didn't appear to have any knowledge on the subject, not that she could tell the difference. "Will you play your magic music Jynelle? So Woofie can go to the enchanted forest to?" She asked the dryad sipping on her glass of water.
"I don't know... I didn't try it without making a plant feel happy..." The dryad said a little hesitantly she glanced over to Mercutio with a strange look on her face. "Preeez jim?" Ruth requested with a mouth full of sandwich. She was actually itching to travel there again herself. It was like a fairytale land beyond imagination. "Okay. After lunch." Jynelle said with a slight sigh.
-----
After lunch the three were out on the balcony again. The plant Jynelle had made grow the other day was still as big as it was then. The dryad lifted the flute to her lips and played a different, yet equally beautiful song. It was a song of the ancient forests of the Underground and the different creature you could find withing it. In particular a gathering of Dryads in a natural clearing. They were singing and dancing and playing with each other like you would expect a faun to do. Probably because the two races were closer than most people realized. One particular dryad stop his laughing and titled his head. he was staring straight through Mercutio and Ruth, or so it appeared. Could he see them? Jynelle's song ended and the two werewolven were left with that question in mind. "That was..." Mercutio started unable to think of an appropriate word for his thoughts. "Magical."Ruth said finishing his sentence with a smile. She looked over to the plant but found it hadn't changed since before the dryad started playing again. "It's already happy." Jynelle explained to Ruth as if knowing she was questioning why. Jynelle wasn't even with her own people and she appeared to know a lot about herself. Did she travel through the music too? And learn things while she was there? She did play her flute a fair bit. Mercutio didn't want to ask, though. He was happy to leave things as they were.

Raeli in Charge
Tonight Mercutio, Finch and Niro were going out all night. Mercutio had been ignoring them while trying to find Peris. Nobody else but Jynelle and Mercutio knew Peris' intention. Ruth had been staying with Leon's father to Mercutio could move faster. As it turns out, Ruth was in fact Mercutio's daughter. She wasn't coming back for the girl. She was his responsibility now. Peris just needed Mercutio to sign a few things, then she disappeared again. The idea behind the 'going out' thing was to inform the two of the new family member. He knew there was no need to tell Ruth, seeing as it was her that was nagging her mother to tell Mercutio the truth. What she didn't know was that Peris wasn't coming back for her. But there was no need to tell her that just yet.
"Look's like Raeli will be looking after you two tonight. It doesn't seem right though. Leaving you three at Finch's alone... But there were no other alternatives." The blonde werewolf explained to the two females. "I want you both to behave yourselves and don't make a mess, okay?"
Before long the two corsea and the miniature werewolf were having a great time. They started out playing with some of Raeli's things, before finally ending with a game of twister and a story before bed. As much as Jynelle didn't like the idea of her being class younger than Raeli, she found it worked out better that way. Otherwise there would be argueing and she didn't like the thought of that.
