This is what the third movie says...
SPOILERS
Ok, after the big battle with Dragon dude(forget name) Inu-papa found out or something Izayoi was in danger, after a "nice" little chat with his son(Sesshoumaru) he changed into his true form and went to the castle Izayoi was at.
*inside castle*
Mr. evil dude of movie(forget name) came into room where Izayoi was giving birth to guess who, he then kills her and leaves saying "my feelings for you well remain unchanged forever"(he loved her)
then, outside Inu-papa comes in and makesa lots of things go boom mit Tessaugia. then he runs around "Izayoi! Izayoi!" and then mr.evil dude comes out and says I have take Izayoi to a place where even you can't get her and then Inu-papa comes at him and cuts of evil dudes left arm and runs in, and mr.evil dude get's people to set fire to place. Inu-papa finds dead Izayoi and InuYasha and uses Ten to bring her back and get's her to run out but mr. evil dude is there so he fights him to save Izayoi and InuYasha and before she goes he says his name will be InuYasha then Izayoi get's out in time to see the castle burn to the ground with Inu-papa in it

and that's how he died..at lest by movie 3

wow i neve knew inu's dad had the sword of the underworld and there are so meny therey on how he deid wow this is like wow and i never knew how he died. eek eek eek eek

but the confuisn part is, he had the Tetsega wit him. y didn't he use it to pretect himself?

And he wasnt a half demon so how could he use tetsusaiga?

i think its that he was in war and in the third movie it shows that he has a injury from a battle on his stomach and then he died when he was battleing the guy that killed inu's mom so i think it was both from battle and from that guy

It's in the thrid movie.He died protecting Inu and his mom Izayoi.
