my favorite differs depending on my mood. normally i stay with graphites or sharpies, other days i'll go more for the refined look of charcoal, and still others i'll use photography.

Another pastels user, eh? Y'know, I tried my pastels again today, but I really think I'm missing something with them... And I can't find any really good tutorials on DA for them... I should look elsewhere, no? xd

pastels are crazy cool, with the emphasis on crazy. i love em, but they're hard to use, mostly because not a lot of people know how, i think, so there's not a lot of people you can learn from. you're stuck teaching yourself.
pastels are tricky medium.

oh don't be like that. i mean, there are enough books and a few tutorials, but it seems that finding someone (who teaches) that is good enough with pastels to specialize in it...i haven't found anyone.

Oh, I know, I know. *pokeths Kirio* I gotta find time to sit down and play with them. I tried the other day, y'know, just to see if I could do something decent enough to turn in for this one commission I have, but, umm.... yeah. xd Not pretty.

it seems like with pastels you need to find a happy combination between smudging and rough hatching/lines. i have yet to really do that, but i'm getting closer. i should play with mine more often xd
one thing i don't like about pastels is that it's one of those mediums where you really can't touch the paper after you've put pastel on it, otherwise it will a) get dirt from your fingers on it and b) transfer the color from one place to another in nice fingerprint shapes confused which is a problem i sometimes have.

I like to work with Adobe Illustrator, Flash, watercolors, ball-point pens, design pencils (HB/H), colored pencils, and animation pencils. I'm really into sketching and traditional animation so I love pencils.
I've never painted in oils or acrylics before, but I'll learn in time. ^^

in the flicker. Kristal Lee While we're here... stuff I HATE using: chalk, pastel, and conte... ick. Just not fun for me. how in the wolrd can you hate chalks? so expressive, so challenging, so textured! but i guess it's okay, i hate using markers [sometimes]. they just don't work for me. for me, when I first used pastels and charcoal, I hated it, but now that i have more experience and learned some techniques, i don't know how i could've disliked using them. It was the same way with colored pencils, now I know how to work with them.

I should look elsewhere, no? xd When I had to start working with pastels for a class assignment, it was frustrating tryingto find information on pastels. Try looking in your local library or bookstore, or just type pastels on the internet, you should be able to find a thing or two.
