Pretty empty in here. You'd think this topic would cause more debating. Probably because people tend to forget about the sub-forums.

Although I'm not entirely sure of my stance on gay marriages because I am a catholic "strictly against gay marriage" but I also believe that you should do what makes you happy.... therefore I will say I'm debating from a historical and political stand point.

In some arguments it is mentioned that the gorvernment should not try to impose it's religion on the entire nation, but since the beginning of time the gorvernment has used religion as a means of unifying a nation.........

Yes America is a free nation allowing a diverse culture, but our leaders from the beginning of the colonies have been strictly Christian, why so?

Furthermore, It may be possible that the government is afraid of a population decrease if gay marriage is legalized. Not to say that everybody will turn homosexual, but this could pose a threat to the nation as a whole.

I just don't understand what polititions mean when they say that it's destroying the White-Hetrosexual-American family. I don't think that they'd like it if I passed a bill saying that them having a life and to be with their loved one is illegal and God hates it. I don't like polititions.... Their killing me!!! emo

That doesn't make any sence, our world is over populated and it's going to keep getting more crowded. If that's any polititions reason, I'd die of laughter then stab him in the face 13 time.

Yes you are right the world is overpopulated, but politicians might see it as: if people of the same sex marry then the constant procreation will be decreased enough to have a major economic effect on the world....not to say that is my view on the subject.....

Whether the law is accepted or denied has no immediate effect on me because I see it from both sides as a positive and negative no matter what the decision.

I'm as sick of this debate as many of the rest of you are.
You know what?
If you're gay- just go get flipping married already.
People break the law everyday, and this is America, so it's not like people don't just do whatever the hell they want anyway.

Now go find something better to do with your time than agreeing with everyone else here on a supposedly touchy subject.

How can you legally have a same sex marriage if there is no willing party to legally bind the couple?

Also, there is suppose to be a separation of church and state, but that isn't upheld in some cases.

SOME cases?
How about, every case!?!

It's always "..But God said this!" or "God's rule is the highest!"

Did you know that after the new Congress got in, one of the new Dem. Represenetives,
Being a Muslim,
Denied to take the oath unless it was on the Kuran(sp)?

How kick a** is that?
I'm still not cool with the non-seperation of the church + Govn.,
But atleast he didn't take oath on the Bible!

Woot for equality!

But he still took an oath on a belief; Therefore, it's basically taking an oath on the bible.

No, not really.

He denied God, the god of the Christians, and took it on Allah, the god of the Muslims.
So, no it's not the same.
Two different religions.

Separation of church and state do not exclude any religion.

Ok now time to look at the real issue here why do people want to enter a contractual partnership with another person? benifits two elderly sisters living with one another in a house if one dies the other will have to pay inheritance tax on the house which they cannot afford on a fixed income and are in no condition to work, however if they get "married" they bypass the inheritence tax because thats one of the benifits of marriage, but they will have to live witht he stigma attached to marrying ones biological sibling

US government representatives are free to make decisions based on religious views/morality; the government is just not allowed to make laws which favor one particular theology over all others; it's all right there in the first amendment to the US Constitution. Separation of Church and State is a fairy tale and appears nowhere in the backbone of the United States' federal law..

Someone had the interesting opinion that they don't want equality, they want privileges. (I don't necessarily agree with that)
