Obsession is good for the soul to a point

There have been times where I've had to have all the books by a certain author I liked. Garth Nix is one of them! Also I can also answer pretty much any question on a book I've read.I can also memorize certain pages by heart, or sumerize a book that I've read months or years ago.

Your friend seems to be overly obsessed not just with books but kind of in general it is a differens betwen loving books and live for them I'm kind of obsessed with books but your friend seems to be overreacting but don't worry she will get over it. wink

Fiyun
I thought that thing(the robot baby project) only still existed in american teve-series. sweatdrop xd

They're used in real life, because every year for the health class at my school, the students are first given "flour babies" and then they are given the robotic babies... which I cannot stand. >_<

Any who, I think many people can obsess over books, though they aren't necessarily bad (though quite a few are, as you've depicted with your friend.) I find myself getting "fan girly" over several books because I feel like I can relate. Thus, I get excited... but I don't take it that far and create role plays. I just couldn't match the greatness of the author and it would be a poor attempt to even begin playing a character. [Though I have played characters from anime series before.]

I can understand ordering from another country if you have the money and really want to read the books.

But the RP and marrying fictional characters is kind of crossing the line for me. I'll admit I've joke married fictional characters (MIKAMI!) but I know it's a joke and if someone told me it disgusted them, I'd easily and smoothly inform them I would never think for a second it was one bit realistic.

Plus, for me, book characters don't do it - you can't see them. It's like all those girls who are like EDWARD IS HOT. Edward's face is completely different in everyone's mind, I could think he's a chimpanzee and just - no. Pet peeves. Dx

I'm definitely overly-obsessed. I treat my books more carefully than my rarest pieces of jewelery, and whatever my favourite series is at the time I have to know EVERYTHING about it because the idea of someone knowing more than me (besides the author) is not a pleasant thought. I'll buy encyclopedias about the series that aren't even written by the series' author. Maybe I have issues. *shrug*

I'm that way when it comes to lending out books. In fact, there are certain books in my collection that I absolutely will not lend out because I'm afraid of the condition they'll come back in.

But I was never really into roleplaying and that such.

I'm kind of with you there. I don't mind a bit of fanfic based on a book, but I could never get into RPs using book characters, especially since they seem to distort my "vision" of how the characters act.

For me reading is like being in love with love. I adore to read, however I rarely finish a novel, so I end up buying light novels instead. Which are great in they're own light. But can be rather hard to find here in america, I have to order them all through borders. Which usualle means I end up buying manga....which is fun and all but I read them to quickly....sigh, story of my life.

I also agree with the statements before, pretaining to book characters being hot, they just don't do it for me.
There for Edward Cullen is not hot. Even when I imaged him (as well as everyone else) as the movie cast, still nothing.
