"Heh, this place is like a palace compared to the mess upstairs," he laughed, referring to his lair just above.

Like he had done with Sayuri, he was almost tempted to offer her some help in walking. But from the reaction he had just got, maybe that wouldn't be a good idea. This lass seemed to like her independence.

"So how long have you been here?"

"Nearly a month," she hobbled about and dropped the towel off on the hook in the bathroom,
"Go ahead and make yourself comfy. Anything particular you'd like to drink, or mix away?"

She went into the kitchen, setting the cane in the doorjamb and pulling out a few bottles of alcohol,
"I've got quite a bit."

The room itself was a little disheveled. It was obvious that a woman who had some trouble getting around was living there in that everything was fairly low to the ground, and most of the stuff that looked like it'd been moved recently was light, something that could be carried in one hand.

"Anything lightweight, if thats okay. I shouldn't be drinking at all," he replied, only half-mumbling the last part.

His reason for being here was beginning to embarrass and annoy him. Maybe he'd get over this whole mess if he drank himself into a coma. Oz treaded carefully around Aislinn's room, knowing all too well that misplacing one of his big feet could spell disaster for a girlie item.

A month...she must know whats happening here then. Maybe she isn't turning into anything? Maybe it was only Sayuri and a handful of others that are test subjects...

Aislinn smiled,
"Watching your girlish figure?" she laughed, putting together something that probably wouldn't have more than the tiniest bit of effect on a guy his size,
"Trying to get rid of that beer-belly, I should say? You shouldn't really. It makes you look like a big teddybear."

Oz laughed, patting his rotund stomach with a sort of pride. True, he did want to tone it up a little bit, but he couldn't deny the fact it almost suited him.

"Nah, this is really a fuel tank for a love-machine," he teased.

He tried to sneakily eye up Aislinn in her bikini, hoping he wouldn't get caught looking.

Oh, he was caught all right, but not like Aislinn minded. She was -proud- of her body, and found the looks flattering more than anything else.
"Is that so?" she grinned, "A few years ago, I would've taken that as an invitation."

"And whats stopping you now?" he smirked at her, quite happy to keep flirting like this. He liked to believe he had that irresistable, British 'Bond' charm.

Once more, his mind flashed back to Sayuri a few days prior. How human she had looked, only to then transform right in front of his eyes. He looked longingly at Aislinn now, but with an almost kind of sadness. As if she might be the last human he'd see before she might change into something else. Or before he might change.

The cheerful exterior melted into a more solemn mood as Oz chewed his lip in thought.

She took a sip of alcohol, reminding herself that he didn't know, and that he wasn't being offensive on purpose. Besides, she'd been the one to bring it up. She couldn't get angry with him. Still, his solemnity added to hers, and she sighed, tapping her hips,
"Part of the accident. Broke a few too many bones all over the lower side of my body, and it's really rather painful to even try that sort of thing."

She hated it too. It wasn't that she slept around, but she'd enjoyed being with her then boyfriend until the accident and the breakup. It was something she was still trying to cope with, in fact, losing that part of her life.

"Oh s**t..." he cursed himself, rather loudly. Oz was generally more forgetful than insensitive. "...I'm sorry."

He wringed his hands nervously, more for the point of just keeping them busy. Oz was a terrible fidget. He even scratched at his arm lightly just to keep distracting his mind from more worrying things.

"I dunno if it would make you feel any better but..." he said hesitantly, leaning down to roll up his jeans on the left leg.

Right on his knee and starting to curl up his thigh were very tight, surgical scars. Some muscle tissue had been lost, leaving odd gaps in his leg in that area. Thankfully, it was still walkable, but couldn't take any stress.

"Nasty looking, but its part of a set really," he chuckled lightheaterdly, referring to the bent nose, bashing eyebrow, battered ears and plethora of scarring on his arms.

Aislinn brought the drinks over, feeling a little warmer now and knelt down to look at his knee,
"Mine aren't quite that extensive," she pointed to the delicate scars on hers,
"I was lucky they didn't have to replace the damn thing, though. Horses are pretty damn heavy."

She smiled, touching the scars on his arms gently,
"You must've had a pretty bad accident for scars all over. What happened?"

Well, turnabout was fair play afterall.

Oz gingerly took the drink he assumed to be his and took a sip. Finding it to be quite pleasant and not too strong, he downed it in one. Maybe he should have asked for something stronger afterall.

"Nah, these aren't from an accident. All sporting injuries. The scars on my arms, legs and face are from rugby boots, and the nose is from a skirmish gone terribly wrong," he said, sounding rather proud.

"The big scar, though, is from...torn ligaments. They couldn't fix it all." His tone was a little more sombre.

"Another?" she motioned to the glass he'd downed so quickly. Perhaps she'd gone too easy on him, but she hadn't wanted to upset him if he wanted something light.

"Ah. I know that feeling," she tapped her pelvic bone, "They do what they can, but some things just aren't...well, maybe they are. I was told they could do it here, s'why I'm here."

She finished off her own drink, letting the warmth of alcohol fill her,
"Though now with the truth of this place, who knows?"

"Yes please," he said sheepishly, hacing over his glass. He hadn't meant to drink it so fast, but it tasted so good!

Ah, the true purpose of this Island. He'd almost forgotten about all that. This all felt so normal, it was like the previous few days just hadn't happened. Or that it was a totally different world out there, like stepping through a wardrobe and into Narnia. Oz looked down at his feet for a few moments, slipping his hands into his pockets.

"Yeah...do you know whats happening...to err...you yet...?" he asked, the question tumbling awkwardly from his mouth.

She shook her head,
"I mean, I've had some odd things going on.." she slowly made her way into the kitchen with the cane, wincing a bit. Her injury had been hurting her more and more lately, though she really couldn't place why.

"My body hurts more than usual...and I'm having trouble sleeping regular hours. If I wear myself out, I can still only manage about six hours."

She really ought to go talk with the management soon. Painkillers would be lovely just now if they'd give them to her, and she had a whole list of other things she wanted to see if they'd give her by now.

She mixed a couple more drinks for both of them, and looked around. Silently, she added room decorations to the list.

Oz rubbed the back of his neck idly. He had yet to experience anything himself, but he seriously dreaded it. A part of him really hoped he'd been passed over, or he'd somehow managed to escape the same fate as others. Though he'd only just met Aislinn, he felt so sad to hear her talk about the suspicious signs of what was to come.

"So...where do you come from?" he asked awkwardly, trying to change the subject, more for himself than Aislinn.
