Miller's eyebrow twitched, hurts? Well, the thought for growing new ears and a coat of thick fur didn't sound exactly pleaseing now. "Lovely... they don't even give you painkillers?"

"Just aspirin, unless you ask for something stronger. I need the good stuff anyway." Sid rubbed his knee for emphasis, as if the cane was hint enough. In retrospect, he probably shouldn't have called the pain killers he took 'the good stuff'.
"They don't warn you, either. You just wake up feeling like s**t and then, boom, outta nowhere you're growing stuff."

"I got perscription pain killers at the moment, crazy squirrle women whacked me on the head with a glass bottle, worst headache ever. Pills killed the pain and helped the swelling, only have a few left though."
Miller looked to the cane, apparently Sid was VERY old, still for an old guy he wasn't all that bad to talk to, not one of those annoying back in my day or just over all boring kind.

"That might work," Sid said. "Can't exactly remember how bad it was."
He did vaguely recall hysterical sobbing back in his duplex afterwards, but that was better left unspoken and forgotten.

Miller shook his head slowly, "Indeed were doomed men on an island of madness." Subconsciously Miller started to rub his arm where he had gotten his first shot from. How long till they decided to doom him for ever then?

"But hey," Sid gestured at the TV. "There's free stuff."
He didn't think of himself as complacent, more like he was just trying to make the most of a bad situation. That's it.

Miller turned about noting the TV with a grin, "Free stuff? You don't suppose one could order one of those new Xbox 360's?" In truth Miller was no different, rather then looking for ways to make the most of something he simply looked for a relatively safe way to ignore it. Mainly by spending hours in front of a glowing screen.

"Whatever you want, man." Sid was no fool... he wasn't a complete fool, anyway. He knew the best way to deal with things you had no idea about was to nod and smile and act like you knew exactly what that was while avoiding ever dealing with it. It left no room for embarrassment. There was no hope when you got so old you had to start asking what any given gadget was.

Miller watched the way Cid nodded going along with it, meh for an old guy he was still good in his books even if he probably couldn't tel the difference between two game systems unless one of them was an Atari 2600 playing Pitfall. The thought of such a person playing on an Atari amussed him, once again for the first time Miller almost smiled on the island again.

Sid noted the smile, but had no idea what it was over. "What?" he asked, cocking an eyebrow.

Miller shook his head, "Ah-ah, the strange lizard girl and Nita taught me one lesson on this island and it's to watch your mouth, I ain't saying nothing."

Sid nodded slowly, fighting the urge to press him about it. He likely didn't want to hear it anyway. "Good call... So anyway, what'd you do? Before, I mean."

Mentally Miller gave a sigh of relief, narrowly avoiding trouble again. "What did I do? Nothing really, I was just out of high school living on my own before collage, I didn't feel like it so instead I spent all my money on a trip to the Caribbeans. Made a nasty little debt and got a job here as a 'medical test subject' to get the money to pay it off." He shrugged, "They wern't lieing about research but this isn't exactly what I had in mind."

Sid chuckled. "They have all kinds of hooks, seems like. I got in on some free physical therapy thing. Before that..." He shrugged. "Eh, I did a lot of stuff. Lots of crappy jobs, I mean."
He left all the other stuff out if only because he didn't feel like going through it all right off the bat.

Sid didn't press Miller, and in turn he wouldn't press Sid about those jobs. "I know another girl who was told she's here for some sort of drug rehab. Must be a different story for each person here I guess."
