Eh, our drummers really aren't cocky. Really just more loud and careless.
The trumpet players, now THEY are cocky, egotistical maniacs. Still love 'em, but wow.

Rhyala Not a hard instrument? please. Don't try to make a point without researching it first, sweetie. You end up looking stupid. Drums, and percussion, is more than just tempo. And the reason we're so cocky is because we have to put up with so many judgemental idiots. I agree whole-heartedly. You cannot honestly say that playing in percussion is easy. There are so many different things you have to know. (Rudiments, sticking, stick heights, optional grips, etc.) Oh, and I seriously doubt that the people who think that drumming is just a walk in the park could even attempt half of it.

I'm like the only girl on snare is our drumline... and it's been quite a while since there's been a girl on too.
I think I'm one of the very few who aren't cocky. I'm kind of a quiet person. Band is my life.
I don't think drumline is any better than the rest of the band. Sure, the drumline and the colorguard are the people who do the most work... no offence to anybody else, but we do.
Drumline is a serious matter. Not just something where you can drum in the halls of your school, and show off saying, hey, look at me, I'm so much better than you because I'm on the drumline.
Besides... half the people on drumline shouldn't be, because they don't give the time and effort to be good. They just think they're good. Even the seniors.
We have four snares. I'm one, and there is another worthy snare player as well. He's a junior, and I'm a sophmore. Our two seniors... Yeah, we play better than them. We're really solid together, but the seniors barely know what they're doing. Our band director said it himself.
At a practice, we had sixlets, and the first of each tripelet accented. Now... you'd think since that's all they were... we could get it together... No. So my band director asked us... (me and the other good drummer), to play it. He said, now that's what I call a drumline. That was together. That was great. It sounded like one drum. Too bad the seniors can't catch up to our two younger players.
This made me crack up.
Even though I am one of the better people on drumline, I don't go down the halls bragging about it.
So yeah. Not all people are like that.
Don't be so quick to judge.

Our drumline is cocky, but it's only really the tenors, they do put the rest of our percussion and drums down alot, and I know most of it is because they're seniors and they only want the drumline to be better for when they leave. We do have a great drumline, and they do know they're great. On percussion, it's a different level, we're a bit more laid-back, but surely none of the percussion are disciplined. Our section leaders are the best out of all of us, and I hope to make next year even though this is my second year EVER reading music of any sort, and I'm in Symphonic 2.

au-topsy-turvy xD Because you have to have confidence to drum, you can't lightly and be passionate about it when you're not supposed to. When you practice the only way to turn it down is to play on a drum pad but that's like doodling versus having a painting that could be hung up on a wall, it's not the same thing. When you crash a cymbal anything other than playing it with the correct force sounds like s**t. Anyone can set a tempo, thing is can you play throughtout an entire show without stopping to keep tempo, can you be reliable? It's a difficult instrument if you're being serious and want to aquire real endurance and agility to play more than a few paradiddles. Cockiness is just a jackass version of confidence. And why drummers are jackasses, I dunno- seeing that not all of 'em are jackasses like how not all drummers are cocky. wink i am with you ALL THE WAY ON THAT

No offense alto sax player, but if youve picked them up and thought they were easy, its probably bc you suck at them. There are all kinds of little things, little details, you have to pay attention to to actually play the drums well. You sound like a pretty cocky a. sax player to think otherwise.
