"He doesn't have me, dear." Val remarked with a grin, his glinting golden eyes boring into Nexi as he passed the two of them to get to a now very pale Vis. His raised hand connected hard with the shoulder of the shaking youth and roughly pushed him back- taking Ruri's hand he turned to face her, winking in his typically arrogant manner. "If people can truely be owned, then he would be mine." He inclined his head lightly before bowing, placing a kiss on her hand. "Who do I have the pleasure of meeting?"

Vis was caught off guard by Val's sudden shove, he attempted desperately not to fall as his "friend" grabbed the girl's hand and his obnoxious fur coat blocked the view. Too confused to say anything his speech fell back into familiar stuttering and he stood there, blinking lamely.

Nexi was already frowning, suddenly nervous, especially as the red haired hallucinations turned his golden eyes onto him. Under that piercing gaze, Nexi squirmed. Things hadn't quite clicked for Ruri yet. As Val passed by she shook her slightly, watching Vis with a strange sense of sympathy. Although she didn't like judging anyone or anything at such an early stage, she was getting an inkling why Vis had been so against Nexi at the start. Still... maybe he wasn't that bad?

"You can... touch me." Startled she didn't protest when he kissed her hand, and in fact, blushed slightly. After all, it wasn't every day a guy took her hand so charmingly. "Ruriska." Ruri stared at him carefully before her gaze swept sideways trying to catch a glimpse of Vis, just to see if he was all right. "And you are?"

Nexi wandered over to Vis for a second looking down at him with wide eyes before turning back to Ruri and presenting himself, with a stubborn air about him. "I'm Nexi." The green haired boy gave Val a stern glare, as if just daring him to try anything funny.

"I think she asked who I was, not you." Val chuckled mirthlessly, as his eyes once again swept over the green youth, appraising him and enjoying the stern glare he was receiving. "Ruriska, it is indeed a pleasu-" Something behind him stirred and interrupted the red-haired youth.

"Val, what are you doing here?" Vis asked with a nervous vibrato playing through his voice, having finally regained his balance. "You weren't here this morning."

Val sighed, as one would expect an adult to sigh after being asked a rather stupid question by a small child. He made no effort to conceal his annoyance at the interruption as he declared, "I'm sorry you had to meet him first, Ruriska," he smiled apologetically, glancing over his shoulder. "He thinks I should spend every waking moment hovering around him".

"I do not!" Vis yelled in indignation and he was prepared to yell a whole lot more, but he was cut short.

"It's polite to let people finish their sentences, Alexander. Where was I.. Ah, yes. It is indeed a pleasure to meet you, Ruriska. My name.. " he bowed lightly once again, "Is Valycinte. Or at least, that is the name of the medication that created me. I.. haven't yet been able to adequately describe myself with a name of my own."

Ruriska wasn't exactly the brightest bulb on the tree. In fact, when it came to any other than her compulsion to stalk and everything that went with that, she was down right dumb. With that said you could forgive the rather blank look on her face as she stared from Val to Vis as they argued. Or rather, Vis whined and Val treated him like a rather stupid pet.

"Er... um... no I er... Vis was... he um..."

With less than eloquent speech she muttered in the background, a small frown on her face. Nexi, who was slightly more with it than Ruri, stood nearby with his arms crossed over his chest, trying to look like he could handle the situation. The fact that he watched romantic chick flicks and liked watching the little bunny in the house nearby, or that he was certainly a lover not a fighter, did not deter him in his efforts to make sure Ruri was going to get through his unscathed. Though by the second he was lowering his guard, finding Val fascinating and the whole situation more amusing than dangerous.

Maybe someone needed a hug?

"Val... That's great name!" Ruri finally found some words. "Really? Oh, you're like Nexi then... Nexi, what were you... um..."

"Nexium."

"That's right! But yes, Val is a good name."

"As I said, my name was not my doing. Still, I thank the doctors for blessing me with a name that a princess such as you would like," he stated, rising up to his full length and bringing a hand back to flip his hair over his shoulder. Finally appearing to have noticed Nexi's existance but still full-on ignoring Vis', the purple-skinned apparition turned to the other "imaginary" being. "Nexium.. ? Now what," he scoffed, "does that cure?" Tilting his head to one side revealed the curiousity hidden behind his arrogant attitude, and the quick wink directed at Nexi would have anyone believe that Valycinte was perhaps just teasing.

Vis knew better, though. Now that Val ignored him and the two weren't too interested in him either, he was left to his own ponderings. This is what he always does. Well.. at least.. I think.. I imagined that's what he would always do upon meeting someone that could see him.. The thing is, no one had ever been able to see Val before. Viscount had heard him complaining about this fact often. Shuffeling uncomfortably at the thought that besides this girl and her apparently nice friend, there might be world of others like Val out there, the painful tingling in his neck resurfaced.

"Princess...? Oh no, I'm not a princess." Ruriska chuckled, patting Val's shoulder as if he were a child that had just made a rather amusing joke and then turning her gaze away to the computer. As time passed, she found herself attracted to its presence and the immense amount of information that was stored on it. Was her own file somewhere on there? That made her quiver slightly with annoyance, though a second later she was smiling at Val again with that blissful clueless look on her face.

"I er... I... it..." Nexi stood and thought, a small frown creasing his brow. "I'm not sure. But..." A bright smile appeared slowly on his face. "... I'm sure it's good for you." Within a few seconds, Nexi was put at ease, his good nature finally winning over suspicion.

Wasn't she supposed to be meeting someone? "Maybe... we should all go for a walk?" She said cheerfully, pointing at the doorway.

"I could show you the solarium!" Vis exclaimed suddenly, casting a hopeful look at Ruri. The idea had come to mind because that's where Vis had often gone when Val was still a see-through illusion.. The bright light flowing through the many windows of the large room reduced Val to nothing but weird-glowing outlines. He had found it easy to pretend the obnoxious youth didn't exist if he couldn't see him. His grey eyes swivelled from the girl to her illusion, wondering if he had to convince him as well. "It's really not far from here.. I promise. Just take a left over there," he waved his hand casually at nothing in particular, "and a right at the end of the empty hallway." This vague explanation was concluded with a short nod and another hopeful glance at Ruriska.

Val, of course, couldn't appreciate this idea much. He was smiling still from the chuckle Ruri had given him and Nexi's ignorance concerning his own effects, but it never could be long before Vis found a way to ruin his good mood. "The solarium? Sure, we could go there.. if you're into that kind of thing." He said with a sneer, shaking his head. "Personally, I don't see what's good about that room. It's old, dusty and there's nothing but a bunch of ancient chairs standing around."

Vis sputtered, looking for a way to explain away the fact that Val was indeed right. There was nothing in the solarium and to anyone but Vis it might've appeared a bit creepy. The wooden chairs had leather straps and metal chains attached to them, as they were used for treating people. Years ago, when they believed the sun was a cure for certain severe mental diseases. While the patients had long since died and ways of treatment had changed, the lunatics' seats had remained. Before he could start naming the good qualities of the room, Val seemed to have read his mind.

"I'm afraid it will scare our guest." Val sighed, sending a (probably fake) worried look Ruri's way, frowning slightly. "You've heard the stories.. There are ghosts in that room."

Caught up in Viscount's enthusiasm, Ruri completely ignored Val's 'concerns' about her being frightened by the room, and jumped forward to grab Vis' hand. "That sounds like a great idea!" Someone who spent of her spare time in peoples backwards at midnight didn't exactly scare easily. As for ghosts? Well, they could be friends just like Nexi was! "I don't think I've been in a solarium before."

Anything Ruri was excited about, Nexi was equally excited about. The green haired apparition came up behind Ruri, a huge grin on his face. "Oh, what's a solarium?! Please show it to us, oh please." He bubbled, waving an arm through Ruri before turning to Val. "You'll come with us too, right Val?”

After looking at the doorway and realizing Vis' directions had been vague enough to confuse the heck of her, she looked at her new friend sporting one quirked eyebrow and a big smile. "Lead the way!"

"You'll come with us too, right Val?” "... Sure. I'll go with you." Valycinte murmured, the creases that his frowning made in his otherwise flawless skin deepening. A moment ago, when the young apparition had looked in the eyes of the sarcastic solid one, the latter had felt a strange sensation running through his body. Tingling mental electricity had slightly shocked his senses, leaving Val confused. It was not the fear of the "ghosts" that awaited the redhead in the solarium that had had this effect on him, nor was it Ruri's seemingly endless and equally scary enthusiasm. Simply that.. "You'll come with us too, right Val?” Nexi was so.. cute.

Vis, completely unawares to the problems his "friend" was having, sported a grin as big if not bigger than Ruri's. It had been so long since he had met people that weren't part of the Happy Home staff, whose only goal it was to keep him as quiet as possible. And these two, well, they were just great! "Right, then! Follow me!" He half-ordered, unable to keep his happiness from his voice, stomping off through the doorway into a long and badly lit hall. It got colder here as the group was moving away from the main-building, but Vis was sure the sun would provide plenty of warmth once they got to the solarium. Besides, it wasn't that far away. "Okay.. Okay.. Just go here." He pointed 'round a corner, walking past open doors which lead to abandoned, dusty rooms. They were getting into the older, unused asylum. Originally it had been an orphanage, or something.. Vis had overheard some nurses chatting about the Home's history. "Don't mind the scattered books, or the toys.." He mumbled after a few more corners and hallways, careful not to step on one of the antique toy horses which lay on the floor.

The air was getting considerably staler, and Val caught himself getting worried to whether or not it was warm enough for Nexi. "Oh, come on. Get a grip." He said in a low voice, after which his bottom lip curled into a pout.

"Yay!"

Apparently Nexi was completely over his first few reservations and Val had suddenly become his next best friend. In fact, he stuck close by to Val as Ruri started following Vis away down the hallway, the young woman nodding absently whenever her companion talked. It was nice to have someone new to chat to. Of course he always had Ruri, but she was awfully vague sometimes and had a habit of tuning out at the oddest of times.

Now that he was feeling a lot better about the situation, he began to get a lot more talkative.

"I watched a documentary the other day talking about macaws. Did you know they can live up to one hundred years! But only the tame ones, the wild ones don't live that long. There are five species that are already extinct. Isn't that sad? I asked but Ruri said I couldn't get one because they're too big and cost lots of money. But I can get a budgie, even though I've never seen any shows on them. Were going to the library tomorrow to get some books and see how to care for one."

As he talked Nexi gestured animatedly with his hands, grinning happily the whole while.

"There was also this movie I watched the other night... called... 'One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest'. It has Jack Nicholson in it. He's been in heaps of movies. Anyway, this one was really good, though I wasn't sure what was happening sometimes. It's the same with some other things I watch. But I don't mind since I enjoy it anyway and Ruri explains it, if she knows herself that is. Ruri watch out for that pot plant."

Walking in front with Vis, Ruriska took a quick step sideways, narrowly missing the large palm she'd nearly walked into. "Thankyou." She called back before zoning out again. The cold didn't seem to bother her at all, she was used to bad conditions of weathers. Observing someone in his or her daily life meant rain or shine you had to be ready.

Nexi was silent for a few moments as they continued down the dim hallway, before suddenly ghosting away through the wall next to him. He was back a moment later after having satisfied his curiosity over what was there.

Before Val could get a chance to wonder where Nexi went, as he had tuned out when the green-haired apparition started talking about macaws, said boy popped up in front of him almost causing Val to land face first in him. Nearly tripping over his surprise Valycinte grabbed Nexi by the collar of his t-shirt (he really didn't like to be caught off guard) and brought the youth to within an inch of his face before he managed to snarl a "Do that again and you're dead, kid". He pushed Nexi back into the wall before he had a chance to say anything.

Val looked away, sneering confidently, but inside he wasn't quite sure if he had reacted so violently because he got scared or because when the boy was so close to him he wanted to.. Either way, he'd stay away from the brat from now on. "No matter how cute he is."
"What was that, Val?" Vis had turned around against his better judgement, wearing a curious expression. "Who's cute? And.. Hey, where's that Nexium gone to?" He'd now stopped completely in his tracks, taking a look around as if he was expecting Nexi to be lurking in one of the shadows. His eyes turned back to Val when he decided the shadowy areas were empty, and his brows frowned in indignation.

"You should have kept an eye on him!" "Whatever." Valycinte had learnt to tune out Vis' shrieking quite a while ago, so when his "friend" starting ranting about how he "had lost the only guest we've ever had" the youth just waved his hand, wanting to wave the whining noise away.

Feeling quite bubbly inside Nexi had been about to return to talking about macaws. Unfortunately he didn't get a word out before he was roughly pulled towards a very angry Val. Eyes widening, the poor boy was too shocked to even struggle. He'd been struck mute. Everything had been going so well. And now... Nexi wasn't sure what he had done but it must have been something pretty bad.

Suddenly he was back in the other room, staring blankly at the wall he had just been pushed through. He found his voice, though it came out as a plaintive whisper. "B... but..." Nexi tugged desperately at his green hair, unable to take this sudden rejection.

Ruri was humming again, or at least she had been. One simple little sentence went through her like lightning strike. Hey, where's that Nexium gone to? What the hell was that supposed to mean? She spun around, nearly tripping over in the process. NEXI! While the inner Ruri was flailing and hyperventilating, she looked desperately for him up and down the corridor before calling, "Nexi! Nexi where are you? Are you ok? Nexi!"

After 30 seconds of yelling and looking like she was about to have a heart attack, a certain green haired young man ghosted through the wall. He gave Ruri a wobbly smile. While fiddling nervously with his bracelet Nexi turned to Val, looking very pale, if that were even possible.

"I'm really, really sorry." With that said he wandered dejectedly over to Ruriska's side, who looked him up and down, cooing and casting Val murderous glances (having come to the conclusion that this was all his fault).

"Shall we.. er... shall we k..keep going?" Was he fighting back tears?

(( Oooh lord, does Val ever feel bad. xD Ruri, you monster. ))
He hadn't expected this for a response. If he had known this would..

His face lost its colour, his eyes were directed towards the floor, the usual emerald sparkles that made up strands of his hair now hung limply over his shoulders. Val noticed all this and more, and felt a feeling he never had the displeasure of feeling before. It wasn't the looks he was getting from Vis and Ruri that caused the uncomfortable clenching of his throat. Nexi was facing him, now, he was even saying something. Some nonsense about being sorry, but all the red-head could see was his mouth moving. Valycinte just wanted him to smile again.

"Jesus Val! What did you do to the boy?" Vis interjected as Nexium offered to continue the trip. The light was pretty dim, but even Vis noticed that the happy mood of see-through youth had made a turn for the worst. He was unsure if he should apologize for his friend's undoubtedly awful behaviour to Ruri or her friend, so he compromised by nervously shouting at the bad guy instead. It always seemed to work in movies.

His eyes shot up and down the usually arrogant adult and noticed a slight change in his demeanor - but thankfully Vis' mind repressed thoughts that it might be caused by guilt, Val was simply not capable of such an emotion. "Well? Apologize to him!" he shouted as he pointed a shaking finger at the pair standing near him.

He didn't realise Val wanted to apologize more than anything. Val had simply never.. never apologized before. He had never felt the need to. Right now though, he felt as if he would explode if he didn't. Look, I'm.. sorry.

It was one thing to say that in the privacy of his own mind, but the imaginary being's pride simple would stand for uttering such sensitivities out loud. Instead, that pride coupled with the surge of jealousy that hit him as Ruri started cooing to Nexi (his Nexi) caused him to react in the only way he knew how to. He cursed, more at himself than anyone else (but would they know that?) and faded into the wall next to him, but not before he heard..

Vis' voice, letting out an apologetic: "I'm so sorry for all this!"

Damnit, why was it so easy for him to say that?
PostPosted: Wed Feb 28, 2007 8:35 pm

Nexi couldn't remember feeling so miserable in his life. He kept silent and despondent, keeping his gaze to the ground as Ruri fussed over him, trying to make sense of his thoughts. So far he'd concluded that he must have done something terribly wrong and now Val hated him. Nexi had never been hated before. It was horrible.

Despite feeling like he wanted the ground to open up beneath him, Nexi instantly jumped to Val's defence, though his voice was too soft to make much of an impact. "Oh no, he doesn't need to apologize. Please don't yell at him. This is all my fault..." He pleaded, first looking at Vis, then at Ruri. "It's all my fault." Nexi repeated, trying to make Ruri understand, but the girl would have none of it.

"Nonsense!"

"It was, really."

"Then what did you do?"

By that time Val had made his abrupt exit. "I... I don't know." Nexi admitted, glancing once or twice at the wall. Ruri had placed (what she hoped was) a comforting smile on her face, though seeing Nexi like this was making her crumble a little inside. "I think we should keep walking and then get some lun-"

"I think I should go after him." That was rather nervous thought. After all, Val didn't like him anymore. But maybe if he said sorry a few more times, and asked why Val was unhappy, everything could be fixed up. That thought made him a little cheerier, a lot more hopeful.

Without waiting for Ruri to respond, he disappeared through the wall. Searching for Val was his top priority, though most likely he would end up getting lost within a few seconds.

"Wait... Nexi!.. Damn it!" With her hands on her hips, Ruri sighed, shaking her head slowly. "It's ok Vis. None of this is your fault."

Despite Ruri's reassurances, Vis had started to feel quite uncomfortable with the whole situation. He wobbled to pick up a dusty rocking chair discarded messily against a wall and sank into it with a sigh louder than the complaining creak the old wood let out. His hands ran through his hair as the youth's head sank miserably. He didn't even look up as he murmured: "I should have prevented him from coming.. I knew this would happen." The tone of his voice sounded resentful, directed at himself and Val. After spending so long in isolation he felt crawling in bed and sleeping until he didn't remember the events of the day was the only solution for these problems. Vis wasn't used to dealing with other people. Shuddering, he stumbled to his feet and wanted to excuse himself.

Little did he know that for undoubtedly the first time ever, Val agreed with him. He too was looking for a comfortable dark spot to spend the rest of day. After walking through the wall he decided that the room beyond it was too light for his taste. Just before he managed to phase through the wall left of him, which led to a darker, abandoned room, he caught a glimpse of something green coming from the wall he had cursed his way through not too long ago. Before Nexi (it had to be him) could see him, though, Val had already plunged head-first into the cool darkness of the next room.
