Letting this new bit of information process and store, Xemnas' brows knotted together in obvious confusion. If he were perhaps a little more emotional, he might have stumbled over himself as well, but he kept his steady pace towards the female's indicated direction - gaze shifting about every so often to take in the landscape so he would be able to make his own way back. So, Fupa'jingutua seemed to be uneasy in the dark as well as rather feeble at hunting. He mentally questioned how she managed to remain alive for so long, but perhaps that was why she was so close to this friend...
"You seem to have a reliance on others..." Xemnas commented, holding back a scoff and mock and instead said in a dry manner which could be taken in whichever way Fupa could decided to. Not that he had anything against it, but well... maybe he did since he decided not to count on others anymore...

Fupa stood next to her, her stance one that didn't carry herself too highly, and it was quite apparent as she stood next to Xemnas. Though both of them had white coats, the moon reflected hers more brightly, as Xemnas' black stripes seemed to hide his white better. Or maybe it was just all in the bone-setter's mind. But regardless, she shouldn't be thinking about her sticking out, or it might make her all the more nervous. And being a jittery ball of nerves right now would not help them at all.
She winced when he made a very hurtful, but obvious, statement. She knew it was the truth, and wouldn't deny it; but she also wouldn't fight it, either. "Yes...well. I never really had the chance to learn common things properly. Nothing but herbs, and....and healing and such." She left it at that, pieces of her past that, while not forgotten, held a small sour taste in her mouth.

Xemnas' gold eyes darted from the rustling bush his gaze had been lingering upon for a while - food? - to settle upon his companion-of-the-moment. Perhaps she did take his statement in the way it had been intended, but the adolescent wasn't about to take it back or apologize. The male clicked his tongue instead and turned his gaze back ahead and unfocused, watching the pitiful stock of trees and bushes pass in his peripheral vision.
"Common things..." He finally muttered, curious about the pair of words and their meaning. Were there really 'common things' a hyena was set to learn, to use to survive? Common sense and logic were a few things learned, but what were common things? Traditions and ways of a hyena? Had he missed out these as well since being raised by a lioness?
"Are herbs and healing not common things among hyena?" When he had grown curious would be any one's guess, but perhaps expected for someone so young and never been raised as she had.

Fupa's ears flicked backwards, soon attaching themselves to her white skull. She was embarassed again, though that should be second nature to her by now. But some things were hard to get used to, and thus she would always feel that flush in her cheeks, the fluttering in her heart, the urge to hide from everything. She was unsure if she would ever grow used to it, or even develop a way to supress the urges, but the future always held things that you would never know.
"Well....common things like learning to hunt. I spent all my time learning how to heal and read things, but never how to hunt, what to do with a kill....even how I should approach other hyenas about situations like migrating, helping with a hunt...." It seemed she was most concerned about not learning to hunt then anything, and her mind couldn't wrap around anything else that she hadn't learned, though there were many. How to act with other hyenas, the caste system, rankings....no, she spend all her time in a cave, usually away from others. Mostly, absurdly, just because of the colour of her coat.
"Oh!" She busted out, a flare of excitement. "Well....no, most hyena's don't learn anything about healing. It can be helpful in some aspect but...." her voice trailed off, a sad look falling upon her face as her blood-red eyes fell upon the ground. "But it's useless if you live alone, and can barely keep yourself fed."

The other hyena's embarrassment went unnoticed by the male, in all honesty if it had he wouldn't have understood why she felt as she did with her skills. "You don't seem completely useless then..." Xemnas remarked in a low tone, mind trying to regain focus at the task at hand - finding her friend through the darkness, which wasn't doing well with the chatter between the two.
"As many other hyena don't know these skills as you put it," The black and white hyena continued after a short pause - having been distracted by yet another rustle of bushes and the prospects of more food that could have come their way, "Then they would be a precious commodity to a pack. There can only be so many hunters, as there are scouts and guards." Maybe, in some ways he was trying to make her feel better while he was thinking aloud. If a hyena could heal the ill or wounded, it would make for a stronger pack in the end, after all.
"You just have to find a pack, I suppose... or learn how to hunt on your own." Like it was a difficult task, he had learned it on his own after his adopted mother passed away and he was still alive.

White ears flopped around the sides of her head as she picked up the sounds of the brush rustling around them. She paniced a bit, but with the longer time she was spending with Xemnas, the less she was likely to show that fear. He seemed indifferent to it, so perhaps it wasn't all bad. Just some of it. Her pace was a bit sloppy as she tried to pick it up again in match with the black and white companion that she had at the time. The night was dark, and there still was no sign. Fupa's heart was getting a little heavy, and her mind frusterated. Wouldn't he be looking for her too? Or was he even looking? She mentally shook her head, wanting to not think about it with someone near her. She would worry about that later, perhaps when the sun arose from it's long sleep.
"A pack would be ideal, but..." her voice faded before she picked it up again. It was stupid of her to lead him into things just to get him to talk to her more. Selfish of her, really. "I was banished from a pack; or moreso, I ran away after their ideals of me weren't quite true." Her tail swished behind her, the fluff on the back of her neck rising a bit. "It would take a lot for me to really trust one enough to join, again..."

There was no immediate response from Xemnas as the two continued their wanderings. The crickets and rustling bushes the only sound emitting within the air, along with the soft patter of paws upon the soft ground. Silence for a few moments, and golden eyes just glancing from side to side for hints of anything - food, opposition or even maybe Fupa's friend. But most prey were returning to their burrows and homes, finding comfort in the night as the nocturnal creatures roamed. Signs of life were getting fewer by the numbers, signs and sightings of a black hyena - or any other hyena for that matter - were growing thin. Frustration was beginning to way upon Xemnas, yet he was yet to show hints of it as she would her fear of the night.
The stripped Hyena let his golden eyes fall upon his companion once more, "There should be no shame in your decision, if they weren't fit for you then it makes sense to leave them and find something more suited." Came his simple opinion on the matter, filing in the silence.
He glanced back at the wilderness ahead and then back upon Fupa, changing the subject. "Does anything look familiar to you, by the way?"

Fupa's own red eyed shifted from looking up at the dark land in front of her, and the bits of ground directly underneath her paws. She couldn't help but let her head hang low, the hyena always learning to keep it low and act like she was nothing special. It had helped her for a time, and it was a habit that was hard for her to kick.
Her heart perked up a bit, though, at Xemnas' words. They were something that she had wanted to hear her whole life, and she clinged onto them like a lifesaver, since it seemed that it was alright for her to run away and never look back. She could tell that it was just a comment to him, explaining just what he felt as if it was nothing, but it did mean something to Fupa.
Before she had a chance to thank him, he questioned her about the surrounding area. She pulled her head up, peering as best she could to see if she saw anything familiar. Crestfallen, she couldn't admit that she didn't recognize a thing, but she didn't want to lie to Xemnas, either. "No, I don't....but I want to thank you for helping me so much!" There, she did it. "I think....I think I'll be alright at this point, though, since I think we are nearing...the graveyard. M-maybe that big group of hyenas that live there will know something."

His golden eyes glowed in the continuing darkness, glancing about to pick up any sign of the area she had indicated. He had never personally gone this far or in this general direction in his young life - he still had many roads to travel after all - so was unsure if she was indeed correct in her deductions. But, her being the elder of the two, he wasn't ready to question her even if he felt he should; her unsurity in many other matters along the way made him want to.
"If you are sure," Xemnas replied in his bland fashion, expressing no doubts in his words even if his mind still fumbled over them. He hesitated for a moment, unsure of why either and then nodded his head. "Then I bid you farewell." The same action turned his head, his black and white paws leading him away from the soft colored female.
A few steps taken and he halted for a moment without looking back in her direction, "Do be careful Fupa'jingutua, I have heard a few unpleasant things of these hyena and it would be a shame for you to be harmed in you searchings." She was a timid creature, as he could gather and the Graveyard hyena, as he had heard from his mother, were often almost barbaric and territorial. He wasn't sure if she had exaggerated being she was a lioness, but one could never be too sure.
But, he mustn't dwell, he argued with himself. Was he getting attached in such a short amount of time with her? No, she would be alright and they were probably not to encounter one another again, much like with anyone he met. To carry on, yes.... and these thoughts helped him pick up his steps again and increase the distance between the two of them. Leaving the night and terrain, destinations and everything away from one another.
[bah, I suck at exiting posts as much as most other ones xD;]
