Herald
10.31.06

When you come upon the scene, it is a weak and dying Herald that you find, unable even to stand. A few scattered feathers on the ground are the only remnants of the wings it once possessed. It has come to this place to die...or be saved? That, of course, is up to you.

You are alone when you find the angel. The Heralds have long gone unsaved, and though it appears to you, it does not hold much hope of living on. Near to where the two of you meet rests a grey stone slab that the angel seems desperate to reach. With your help, the Herald climbs upon it, needing something from you to save its life. What will you choose to give it? And what significance does that item hold for you? Is it a family heirloom? Something you happened to have on hand? Something you'd purchased earlier that day? A lucky charm?

You may have noticed that many details have been left off. This is because we want you to have plenty of freedom to develop the scene yourself. Consider time of day, weather, season, etc. when you post.

How long has it been?

A silver head lay on the pillow of her bed, fast asleep, looking warm and comfortable in dreamland as Jade stroked that glistening hair. It'd been a week ago she'd gotten a phone call informing her of the accident. The week she felt she'd lost every reason for her existance.

~*~*~*~

That Halloween was warm, pleasent, and bitterly mocking her terrible loss. That morning, Jade had found out Tobias wouldn't return to meet her after work. The entire day she had went about in a haze, not seeming to register where she was or what she was doing. All food lost it's taste, all her novels lost their appeal; after several hours she'd taken to wandering out of doors.

The entire day had been warm, but she'd a shawl wrapped over her shoulders all the same. People had always said she dressed like an old lady... She sat for three hours rocking back and forth on her porchswing, remembering everything that had happened just the day before. She'd made him scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast and he ate every bite; even though the eggs were a bit runny and the toast burnt on one side. They'd discussed how they'd get married one day, if only Tobias could work up enough money for a ring. Despite how much Jade protested him working so hard. Lunch, a sandwich she'd made for him and said she wasn't hungry, then he departed for work. All the farewell she recieved was a kiss, and the words 'I Love you'. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she found herself sobbing. Crying herself to sleep there on the swing.

When she woke up she found it was already dark, trick-or-treaters she could see down in the caldasack below her house on the hill.

"And in further news, a meteor shower has been announced for later tonight. Please be sure to keep an eye out for it, it should be quite the sight to see."

Turning to see where the voice was coming from, Jade noticed that the window was open to her home, and the television left on. "Meteor shower?" An ill omen on the day of Tobias's death. Jade couldn't help but crack a smile at the irony of it all. "Are you crying as well Tobias?" She asked, hugging the shawl around her shoulders and started out onto the grassy knoll before her house. It was a slowly sloping hill, and 'round the bottom there were a thin layer of trees that seemed to keep people off her property.

The sky had grown dark, and she watched on the grass for the meteor shower to begin. Below, within the small glade of trees, a stream grew into the start of a river; one she knew would be deep enough to drown within when the show had finished. Everyone was now gone, and it left a deep emptiness inside of her; enough to want to join her family and love no matter the cost.

Within the hour, she began to see the start of the shower. A few streaks of light across the sky before it all became still. There she sat, confused at the small flicker before stillness again- was that all? She started to stand, though when she had just began to rise a rather large ball of light started falling rapidly towards earth. As it fell, it seemed bits of it tore away and floated elegantly instead of falling at such a tremendous speed. Half the size it once was, the light hit the ground somewhere within the glade at the bottom of her grassy knoll. Above in the heavens, smaller meteors once more started falling, and Jade skidded down the grassy hill towards the impact sight.

Despite the large object hitting the ground, there was no real sound of impact, no explosion, no anything out of the ordinary. The glow had disappeared slowly, and Jade hurried to see just what it was. As she hurried, she noticed things falling beside her- soft, white downy feathers twirled and danced their silent ballet as they were earthbound.

She didn't take notice to these, though Jade was growing more and more frightened of what might have hit the ground. A rampant imagination ran wild at the thought of what it could have been. An angel, a satalite, an alien? Was it an alien crashing to earth?!

It looked like the stars kept falling from the heavens, as if someone from above were crying. Jade had thought the shower was a sign from Tobias, but she could see it wasn't from her love. The stream was shallow ahead, and Jade foarded it- loosing a shoe in the process and kept going. Stumbling blindly in the dark, she continued through the trees and brambles. Briars tore at her skirt, pine needles caught her hair, but she still kept trying to find what had landed without a sound.

Ahead of her, after much trudging and stumbling, she found a faintly glowing being laying nude on the fallen leaves and pine needles. At a distance she stood, gasping at the being without having a name to call what she saw. It was trying to get towards the stone slab that had been covered in moss from over the years. However, it couldn't move, and Jade found herself drawn to the creature.

It was utterly helpless, barely able to crawl on it's belly, and Jade couldn't help but to well with tears at watching it. After a few hesitant steps, Jade made her way more quickly towards the being. "A-Are you all right?" Well that was the million dollar question there. Reaching down, she lifted the near limp body of the creature into her arms where she could get a better look at him... or her, or... what was it exactly? Dark blue eyes stared up at her, as deep as the night sky above and shining with the meteor shower reflected from overhead. It's mouth opened, but the being could not make words. Merely held out a hand towards the moss covered rock laying on the ground.

This made little sense to Jade, though after a few minutes she began to get the idea and brought the lithe body of the angelic being to the rock and lay it down on the stone. Stroking it's hair as she knelt beside, near tears as she saw the creature wasn't going to last much longer. The Herald lay on it's back, staring up at the meteor shower overhead.

"The shower wasn't for me..." Jade murmured to herself, continuing to stroke the creature's hair. "It looks like the heavens are crying for you, whoever you are..."

For... me?

The expression on the Herald's face spoke for itself, and from somewhere it gathered the strength to sit up and spread it's arms wide. Jade, shocked it could find such strength, scooted back a bit to see what it was doing. "You should lay down! You're not well...." She was watching the Herald, and didn't look to the sky as she noticed the meteors changing direction. They glowed, and turned direction.... straight for them! They weren't fading away in the atmosphere, they were heading on a crash course for the Herald!

Speeding faster and faster, the meteors did seem as if they'd shrunk in size at least a bit as they came towards them. They impacted- striking the Herald in the chest where they looked as if, instead of causing the creature harm, they were being sucked in like a black hole. Though, instead of darkness, it was a bright light that made Jade shade her eyes. The sound was indescribable, but within moments it had ended and the light was entirely gone aside from the pale and semi-luminescant body of the Herald. His dark blue eyes swirled with the spectrum of light, the deep dark abyss of blue tinted with bits of red and gold, of deep forest greens and hues of purple. What energy it had mustered left it now, and it fell backwards.

Jade caught him before his head could hit the stone slab, and cradled him tightly against her. She was shaking, not knowing what on earth had just happened and was terribly frightened. Taking her shawl from her shoulders, she wrapped the little body in it and held it close as she sat on the stone. The little creature, breathing heavily, gave a genuine smile up at her before those heavy eyelids were more than it could withstand, and the Herald passed out against Jade's chest.

It was a while, a half an hour at least, before Jade had sense to take the naked creature with her away from the stone before it had frozen to death. She'd thought it was bound to pass away, and she was emotionless as she'd held it, thinking it would die in her arms. However, the pulse of the being grew stronger, and though it remained cold, Jade was beginning to warm it with the shawl and her arms wrapped around it.

She scooped it up, holding it like a baby, and began to bring the being back to her cabin. On the way, she could see the feathers that had fallen with the Herald brightly glowing on the ground. Reminescant of their travel with the glowing tears from the heavens.

~*~*~*~

Within the first day of looking after the being, Jade had decided to call the being "Nikolai"- the name she'd picked out for the son she'd dreamed of having for Tobias one day. A dream that would never become reality. It was hard, but she tried to keep from becoming attatched; always saying it'll die tomorrow, just you wait and see. It didn't have much longer when I found it anyway. Despite this, she kept an unwavering hope that Nikolai would be the one thing that would not desert her.

It was this that made her seem so distant to the little creature in it's waking hours, few that they were as the Herald recooperated, but stroked it's hair and hummed softly when she assumed it had been sleeping. Soothing as it was, Nikolai feigned sleep on more than one occasion just to have this comfort and Jade was none the wiser of it.

Tea Time
Stage: Fallen Messenger

Whistling from the kitchen distracted Jade from the adventures Alice was having in Wonderland, and lathargicly went to get the tea she'd put on earlier. An old fasion kettle on a wood burning stove sat as pretty as a picture and twice as noisy. The book was placed on a counter and the kettle removed with an oven mit so that Jade could pour herself something. Her tiny little house had one bedroom, and she did plan on putting an extension in within the next year. She'd been saving up from the past four to afford it. Most everything she had had been in her family since her great grandmother, and it was in desperate need of updating.

Tea in two cups made with lemon, honey and some sugar, Jade added a bit of cream to the smaller of the two to help cool it and started for the bedroom.

"Nikolai," Voice hushed in case the being was sleeping, and held a subdued tone that sounded a bit as if she were being motherly. "Can you sit up?" The Herald grasped the folded edge of his covers to pull it away from his face, but hadn't yet gained the strength to sit up. Still very frail, Jade had been sure to tend to him carefully, but did not sit with him or keep him company for very long. She was afraid to get attatched to the little creature. Since the Herald was nude, she'd given him a night gown to put on, and it seemed to match the age of the house- a pull over that went to his ankles and hid his entire arms. A bit of embroidery went across the length of the gown's breast that had white on white detail of a rooster on either side. Of course, it wasn't a very big detail on the nightgown.

"I brought you something to drink." The bright face of the Herald was always a delight, but Jade dared not look at the child for very long. She wanted to coddle the being like a baby, fawn over him for hours, but she knew it would be that much harder for her to deal with it should Nikolai die.

Kneeling beside the bed, Jade set the tray on the floor and lifted the cup to the Herald's mouth. For a moment the Herald seemed to shutter at the flavor, and Jade stopped so the Herald could show her whether he liked it or not. The Herald seemed to think on it a moment, then took the cup in his hands and Jade went to grab some pillows to help him sit up.

"Do you like it?" Jade asked, propping his head up and taking a seat on the floor to drink her tea in his company. Nikolai nodded, but not once in the time he'd stayed with her had he spoken. "That's good." Jade turned away from him as she drank her tea, hiding a small smile. "I'm glad..."

A Dream, a Hope, and Hot Chocolate
Stage:Fallen Messenger

Floating... ever floating... Whisps pass me; smoke? No, clouds. They're dark, but around me is even darker. Muscles tense at my shoulders- what are those? Glowing things, slender and softer than the whisps I'm passing fall around me. The tension at my shoulders loosens, and begins again; more slender glowing things fall around me. Where am I? Everything is endless- I can see no ground, I can see nothing but sky... Those glowing things, they keep falling with every spasm it seems.

Fading and floating... fading and falling...

Eyes blinked open as the little Herald awoke from a nap, surprised to find himself alone. His hair had been brushed while he'd been sleeping, and tied off with a dark purple ribbon. Where ever the woman was who had watched over him had gone to he didn't know, and began to feel alone again. An invalid, incappable of walking, bed ridden and helpless; was that what he would be? Even if this were so, he was bound to isolation without the company of his caretaker. Never murmuring a word, Nikolai nestled into his pillow, nuzzling it as he made himself comfortable, and closed his eyes to feign sleep should she return.

The smell that wafted through the house foretold of a pie nearly finished baking. Jade had tended to Nikolai, having brushed his hair and washed his face with a warm cloth when he'd been sleeping, and now hoped to make something special for him to eat. Maybe it was time to spend a bit more time with him? He didn't look like he would fade away... Clinging to that whisp of hope, Jade removed the apple pie from the pot-bellied stove and set it on the windowsill to cool. "Ten minutes ought to do it in this cold air..." Taking the hot chocolate she'd made earlier, Jade headed in to see Nikolai. Opening the bedroom door slowly, Jade stepped inside and carefully moved to sit in the chair at his bedside; cocoa in her lap. "Are you awake?" She cooed, smiling as his eyes fluttered open. Helping him to sit up, Jade blew on the hot chocolate and helped Nikolai to drink it. "What do you think, do you like it?"

Hot! Grasping the cup in his hands, Nikolai was slow to drink the cocoa when it was so hot, but he quickly grew used to it. It filled his stomach, and warmth spread through him in a wave. It was a wonderful feeling, and Nikolai started to drink it more quickly and only stopped for a breath of air and a hiccup before reaching the bottom of the cup. If the milk mustache and mini marshmellow clinging to his cheek were any indication, the little Herald enjoyed his chocolate milk!

Herald
11.17.06

You sit inside, protected and comfortable as the weather rages outside. The evening meal is on the table, and you're filled with an intense feeling of well-being.

Your mind veers, against your will, to the dying creature that you had come across. It certainly wouldn?t be comfortable tonight. What are you thinking? It's probably already long gone. But...what if it isn't?

What's it actually like outside? Do you go in search of the Herald? What do you bring to make it more comfortable, if so? Do you even find it?

Rain, sleet, snow and hail kept everything, including the mailman, at bay that night. The little house on the hill was left in isolation as a lighthouse over the ocean of darkness and cold of an early winter storm. Pounding like the big bad wolf on the building, and howling just as badly, the storm was raging worse than a two year old in a temper tantrum. And yet, within that house that was the only light on top of the hill, the owner of the abode stared mystified out the window towards the little glad she'd first found her ward. Despite the pounding sleet and slush that lobbed itself against the window, she saw the little glade vaguely; or at least could imagine it in her mind. What with all the wind howling, she was deaf to it within her own thoughts. What pulled her out of that daydream was thinking of Nikolai as he was now, sleeping, hopefully, under the quilt and blankets in the warmest room of the house.

"I wonder..." She mused, never finishing her thought before turning to look at the doorway behind which Nikolai remained. Standing up, taking her quilt she'd wrapped around herself with her, Jade headed over to open the door and peer inside.

Instead of looking warm and content, it wasn't the dancing of the fire that left shadows flickering over Nikolai that made him look like he was trembling. The noise, he didn't understand where it was coming. From down the chimney in the room a bit of snow might trickle down and the embers would hiss and pop in protest. He'd been continuously left alone, and without a voice to call out to anyone, he didn't seem to try to make it known he wanted someone there. The mentality Jade was, having lost both her parents and the one dearest to her, that the little invalid only had a few days to live anyway. It was because of this she didn't wish to get attatched and kept at a distance despite how much she'd wanted to hold the little being. But there he was, shaking from fright with his eyes screwed shut so as to at least make it seem like he was getting some sleep.

Coming closer, Jade's brow knit together in worry at what she saw. He hadn't a voice, weaker than an infant, and just as much in need of her as a child. Within a few steps she was in the room, after a few more she was next to the bed and ventured to sit down. The little Herald didn't open his eyes, didn't look at her, didn't move aside from his quivering that had nothing to do with the cold. Whenever the tender love of a mother was shown to him he was asleep, and it was easier for Nikolai to pretend to sleep. Instead of just brushing his hair gently as Jade normally did, Jade scooped up the little Herald into her arms to hold on her lap.

Eyes snapping open quickly, Nikolai blinked in surprise and looked up at Jade. She smiled, looking him in his eyes and stroking his hair as he was used to. Still she held him, holding him close in her arms and leaving him confused for a moment before he relaxed enough to wrap his arms around her neck to return the embrace. Now, it seemed, it was Jade's turn to be surprised and offered a small chuckle as Nikolai clung to her. "It'll be all right..." She cooed softly. "The storm will soon pass." The storm was predicted to last until morning, and Jade planned on staying with Nikolai as long as he needed her. It wasn't long before Jade was rocking him back and forth and humming softly to him. Helping him to get to sleep for real. "Hush little baby, don't say a word.... Momma's gonna buy you a mocking bird..." Planting a soft kiss on that tender forehead, Jade held close to Nikolai and tears ran down her face. If it was God who sent the little angel to her, she prayed that Nikolai would be the one who would be able to stay with her to look after forever. For as long as stars sparkled in the skies just as brightly as they had on the night Jade found her prescious angel.

Bouncing Baby Boy
Stage: Messenger Reborn

The entire day, Jade had made sure to pick up food from the grocery store that she knew Nikolai would like. Cheesecake with strawberries, hot chocolate mix, a few potatoes for mashing and some for making potatoe pancakes, and quite a few other things. What had started out as a day that left her with warm feelings of being able to make something for her son, turned into one of shock. The moment the door opened, and Jade found a white haired boy with dark wings in Nikolai's night gown, the grocery bag she had with her dropped to the floor. Potatoes rolled along the floor in all directions from one bag, and the cheesecake in another audibly went splat within it's box. All the while the woman stared at the child at her living room table in utter shock. "Ni-Nikolai?"

The boy looked just as surprised- mostly at the food rolling everywhere on the floor. When they finally came to a hault, the little boy looked up at Jade with a bright smile, hopping out of the chair and running on wobbley legs towards her. He nearly stumbled on a rogue vegitable before hugging Jade around her middle.

Awestruck, Jade stood stoic as she watched him. Was this what Owle had told her about them suddenly changing? But look, he could walk now, he wasn't so weak and helpless! Tears sprang to her eyes when she finally regained her wits and lifted the child up to hug him tightly to her. "My baby boy grew up!" She cried, laughing in spite of herself and showered the little Herald with kisses. He still didn't seem too keen to speak, but he was healthy and stronger. That was all that mattered.

A Fruitcake by any Other Name... Would Still be Nuts
Stage: Messenger Reborn

Humming softly as she placed decorations around the house, the woman was sure to watch Nikolai out of the corner of her eye. Jade had given the silent Herald the important task of mixing the ingrediants for their fruitcake. "You can mix a little faster Nikki." She'd taken to calling him by a nickname now that he was different. Just last week, when she had returned from work to find him odd had certainly been a shocker. But she'd gotten used to it by now, and was very fond of her little darling.

Nikolai started mixing faster, and the batter began to fly. The gingerbread men had been deliscious, and the gumdrops he'd sampled before they went into the fruitcake batter were scrumptious! He'd never tasted anything so sweet. His old nightmares he'd had as a fallen messenger were gone now, suppressed and for a time, conquered in his new body. Everything was new to him, except for speaking- the lad still would not say a word to anyone.

"Wait! Wait!" Jade cried, laughing at the mess he'd made and hurried over to grasp his hand and helped him to stir properly. "This will be yummy when it's finished, but not if there's no batter left to bake!"

Herald
1.22.07

Time has passed, and your Herald is becoming fond of you and beginning to show affection. You two have grown closer, but that's not the only aspect of growing.

The Herald is maturing into a young child before your eyes. No longer dying and weak and no longer sexless, it now has beautiful angel white hair and dark blue eyes of unusual depth. You may have noticed that the Herald has been scratching and touching its back for a while, and now it's finally explained. The herald's wings have started to grow in.

How do you deal with the child's discomfort? Do you have any remedies to ease it? How does he/she react? How do the wings reflect the item given?

Clank! Ponk! Bang! A poor man's drum set of pots and pans with a wooden and a pasta straining spoon were the objects of entertainment for the little Herald. His mother was busy in the kitchen as he played on the living room floor just within sight, but the banging and clattering only went on for so long. Between 'notes' the little herald reached back an arm to try and scratch between his shoulders and falling considerably short. That didn't work... The melody of a thousand headaches continued until the herald tried to use the pronged spoon to try and scratch. Ahhhh, that worked! Nikolai continued, feeling a bit better with every scratch before stretching out his stubby little wings and took the pasta spoon to the feathers directly. The banging was silenced now, and the little Herald felt much better! The specks on his wings that shone like stars seemed to shift, however, and started falling as he scratched. Within a few minutes, it looked like he'd spilled a bottle of glitter behind him, and yet they still twinkled. A few persistant ones hung around, clinging to the inky blackness of his midnight hued wings.

"Almost time for- Good Lord!" The woman walked in to find Nikolai's wings ruffled, a mess on the floor, and a brightly smiling herald who looked highly relieved to have his itching over with. Rushing over, she scooped him up and took away the spoons to get a better look at him. Was he hurt? What was that glittering stuff on the floor? they almost looked like fractured diamonds... "That's bad, you can't do that!" She cried at once, thinking this was really really bad for the little Herald. "You'll hurt yourself Nikolai!"

The itching was gone, but Nikolai blinked in surprise at his mother as she disciplined him. What'd he do? All of the scratching felt wonderful! He didn't understand much about the small mess he'd made, but he knew he felt far better than before.

Herald
DatePrompt 2
Your Herald has been acting strangely all morning, sneaking around the house, and jumping at every small noise. The cause of this behavior is discovered shortly; you find that a priceless object has been broken and it would appear that it was your Herald that broke it.

What is the object and what is its importance? How do you react to this? Do you punish them or let them off with a warning? How does your Herald react? Was it your Herald that broke the object or maybe s/he was an observer to the act?

Crash!

The quiet day at home had litterally been shattered. Having been sewing in her room with the door open to listen to Nikolai playing, Jade pricked her finger on the needle at the noise with a wince and tossed down the fabric to see what was going on. "Nikki?!" She called, heading into the living room and standing stock still when she saw.

Standing stock still and cringing, the little boy looked up to Jade with an innocent smile. At his feet was an antique clock that had sat on a shelf over the dining table- now in pieces with springs scattered about. His little wings hung low in a very sullen fashion, and the small flickering lights that clung to the dark wings seemed all the dimmer for it.

"My... my grandfather's clock!" Jade looked to the pieces on the ground and turned to look at Nikolai. "Did you do this?!" She looked to the shelf that the clock had sat on- even Jade needed to sit on her knees on the table to reach that shelf. Had Nikolai tried to fly? Turning back to the boy, she waited to see the verdict from the small child.

He shook his head quickly, slowly stepping away from the catastrophe at hand. It wasn't his doing! The little boy pouted, having no means to prove it wasn't him except his word.

"Nikki, you know it's dangerous to play so roughly in the house..." Jade didn't seem too keen on believing the argument, and went to grab a dust pan to collect the pieces. She'd have to take it to someone in town to fix. "Go sit in your room and think about what you've done."

Whining quietly, the boy looked to the mess before tearing up. The glimmer on his wings twinkled as well; it wasn't long before the small child was crying at the misjudgement. It hadn't been him! Sullenly, he hiccuped as he sulked towards the bedroom door to serve out his punishment. Having never spoken a word, he couldn't defend himself.

Sighing deeply, Jade put the pieces away to take with her later. "What am I supposed to do?" She questioned, looking out the window at the shallow snow drifts. She didn't want to spank the child, it was the first time Nikolai'd done something wrong after all.

~Later that Day~

"Not again! Nikki!" The pie that Jade had made for after dinner had now a very large bite taken out of it. Nikolai'd been sitting in his room only five minutes before being allowed out, but now that it was just after Lunch, Jade had set the pie she'd finished makign out to cool. The woman didn't think it'd be in any danger! She'd swept the snow from the porch, and when she returned, she found the pie on the window had bite marks in it. "Are you hiding from me Nikki? Why have you been so bad today?"

Wincing when Jade shouted, Nikolai poked his head out of the doorway to the bedroom where he'd been playing with his toys. He pouted, and quickly shook his head before pointing. It looked like he pointed at Jade, and the woman didn't understand that the culprit was behind her. Beneath the stove where it was nice and warm, there was a small animal having somehow gotten in to escape from the cold.

"Do you need to go to time out again?" Jade came to Nikolai, taking him by the hand. However, it struck her as odd the boy had the sense to wash his face clean. The boy was immaculate as always.

Rather quickly, Nikolai pulled out of her hand, much to Jade's dismay. He ran over to the stove and prodded beneath it.

"Don't! It could still be hot Nikolai!" Jade called, and gasped in surprise when she saw what came out. A large creature came skittering out from under the stove, and straight for the woman to cause her to shriek. A squirrel had somehow gotten in, and it made it's way up Jade's skirt to try and jump to the shelf where it had knocked over the clock before. The poor woman was screaming, shaking her skirt to try and knock it off, and hid in the bedroom when it lept off of her. Terrified for what had just happened, she didn't realize that was the cause of all the trouble in her moment of panic.

The Herald stared in dismay at Jade's flailing about, but when he looked to the squirrel he could see it was clearly more afraid. Taking one of the pecan nuts off the pie's top, Nikolai sat in the middle of the floor and offered the nut to the little beast. Jade didn't seem keen to come out of the bedroom just yet while she recovered from the shock, and within a few minutes the little creature came down to sit on Nikki's knee and ate the nut. A Herald held no malice, and the small child smiled brightly as he pet the squirrel's back. Perhaps they'd come to have a very unexpected new pet?

Herald
11.28.07

Prompt 2
Your Herald is now a child with a personality all her own. Except for the wings, it's almost easy to forget that she was once an angel, isn't it? Even she seems to have forgotten. But the past hasn't forgotten her...

Your Herald has been dredging up odd bits and phrases from some hidden corner of the mind.

What are the words? What do they mean, and how does this fragment of memory return?

Blackness all around again in a turbulent unease that didn't end when Guinevere parted ways with him. No, this was far worse than that vision; he was trapped in this unrest of terrifying pain and uncertainty. What jagged puzzle pieces, deformed with his growing changes, he managed to dredge up offered no hope of salvation for the little Herald. Night after night, hour upon hour, it felt like Nikolai was reliving his fall in a constant torturous loop with each growing more vivid and frightening as relizations came from it.

The man whose face was blurry cursed at him, but... he must protect him. There was some reason behind it that Nikolai grasped and couldn't hold. No more could he catch it than the very stars overhead he saw in his dreams. When he was a whole thing, a celestial thing, Nikolai remembered the human world he was thrust. He had remained there, watching over someone entrusted to him, for a scant three days before he fell. The message he was sent to give was of destruction but there was something more.... no matter what Nikolai did when his dreams were lucid enough to cling to with tooth and nail to control he couldn't recall what was most important of all. All that echoed in his mind when he did his best was a single phrase that carried over into this new life that rang like a shrill bell in the very core of Nikolai's being.

You have no idea what harm your words do.....
what harm your words do...
your words....
