Meh. I play alot of games, but I'm not hardcore or anything. I mean, I could not touch the video games for a whole week I don't want to. I'm playing whenever I get a new game, or replaying a game that I really like ... in that case, I can go on without not putting down the controller for 5 hours+ And I guess I don't know much about releases and hottest games, and I don't exactly have a very wide variety I play... but what I do play I enjoy. -shrugs- That alone makes me a gamer... and I can be formidable if I work at it.

I second this. I know enough about new games if I'm interested enough in them. I generally play what I like (despite what others say) for hours on end... if I have the time to spare with school and all. I've been known to kill a day playing some console RPG, Ragnarok or a simulation game. I don't play as much to affect my relationships or schoolwork, but I would consider myself a midcore gamer.

TheKeen Subacai Going by that, I'd be a mid-level to hardcore gamer. I spend a great deal of time playing games, but I'm not necessarily very good at them. I'd certainly never rank in the top, say, 1000 in anything. But I play for me, not whatever 'bragging rights' certain people may have attached to specific goals in games. Does that make me any less of a hardcore gamer? Right now I have more games than I have time to play. redface And I just keep buying more. I'm a bit of a collector as well as a player, I guess. Yeah me too, I have hardly any time to finish my games anymore, Im like halfway through most of them I have a bunch of games I haven't even started because I've got other ones I'm trying to finish. And MMORPGs don't help, even if I only play one.

Hmm, Hardcore is such an over rated thing nowerdays. I used to be called Hardcore till I started to play my other games.
What I normally play is
Resident Evil Silent Hill C.O.R.E. N3 Street Fighter
To name but a few, but when it comes down to it, you only have to play something that has blood in it and you are deemed a harecore gamer no matter what you do.

Same here. I play a lot of games, but my school or social contacts or other 'obligations' aren't affected. I could play games for a few days straight though (with sleeping and eating in between though). I play what I like, regardless of what other people think of the games, wether they are mainstream or not (though non-mainstream games are rare here). I consider someone a 'hardcore'-gamer when this person plays videogames 24/7, and because of this he/she doesn't meet obligations such as school, work and social contacts etc. In fact, the person barely leaves his/her room and doesn't take breaks to eat. I don't exactly meet that criteria, so I don't consider myself a hardcore games. I love games, but I meet my obligations.

That's not hardcore, that's addicted in a very serious way, and that person has a problem. However, I will admit a hardcore gamer is very likely to play more than the average, and is likely waaay to interested in goals/rare items/nit-picky knowledge about the most obscure facts in the game. (Did you know Jenova is NOT a Cetra? Okay, okay. Don't pick on me. wink )
But that's just my personal view on it, for what it's worth.

Yeah, I think when it gets to the point of your school and friends failing, then I think its a problem. Ever heard of gamewidows.com ( i think thats what its called) its for people who are or have a bf/gf/husband/wife addicted to games. Its rather unique

There is a line betwen being a hardcore gamer and being addicted to a game, I had to do a research paper on online gaming addiction and let me tell you that was enlightening.
I really dont consider myself anything I love video games I own just about every system, the Atari, Sega, Sega Saturn, Playstation, Playstation 2, Xbox, 360, game cube, DS, yadda yadda and have at least 10-20 games for each system, ontop of that I at one time generaly have subscriptions to four massive multiplayer online games active at once.
However with all of thise I still work full time, and I go to college. College im going to for Gaming Art and Design. Basically I wanna be the person who designs aspects of the games and not just play them. Particularly level design.
and on a note about gamewidows actually one of the first support groups that started all these other support groups for gaming addiction was EQwidows. Everquest ah yes Evercrack.. im still playing that damn game and I have since 1999 off and on sweatdrop

I play on and off. I can spend hours playing games but I try to limit myself from time to time. I own SNES, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, N64, PS2 and 360. I also use PC for some games. My idea of hardcore is someone who plays various genres of video games on various platforms and can catch on quick with controls and whatnot. Me, I'm not hardcore. I play for fun and try not to take things too seriously.

I guess I call myself hardcore because I've been playing videogames for 14 years and have played every genre there is. I also have many game systems as well. Everyone's definition for "Hardcore" is different though.

I play alot of games that people haven't heard about. The Bouncer is one that my cousin owns that I've played and beaten. I happen to love that game. He'll prolly give it to me later. I also played Jetforce Gemini for the N64. Another awsome game. Plus, there was Nights Into Dreams, a great sega saturn game that's long burned from people's minds. Now, just playing games no one knows.. I wouldn't say that makes you hardcore. I beleive getting in deeper then the game does. Personally, I like the find alot of back storys for all the games I play. Why they where made and all that. Pretty interesting. Like, I've heard that The Bouncer was the first stepping stones for Kingdom Hearts. If you ever look at the main boy, Zion, he looks like an older Sora.
