Rubyhawk Try The Shadow Saga, by Christopher Golden. There are currently four books in the series. The concept is really awesome. Of Saints and Shadows Angel Souls and Devil Hearts Of Masques and Martyrs The Gathering Dark Having an open mind is necessary...but then again, if you're reading Laurell K. Hamilton you should already have one! Oh I love this series, but I haven't read the newest one. I thought the concepts behind the series was incredible. They really put a new twist on the idea of vampires!!!

I was also a little hesitant to read it since I was sort of angry at the Of Masques and Martyrs, but it was as wonderful as I've come to expect. Go acquire! It's worth it. 3nodding

Double_Sins Lady Sierra Double_Sins I read a great series called "The Last Vampire" by Christopher Pike. I think there are six books in the series. This one has plenty of action and has a woman vampire with an attitude (like Anita). I think you'd like this book if you like the Anita Blake books. Ooooh! I think someone suggested that I read that before... now I'll have to be sure to look for it! heart lol, I hope you enjoy them! i never could get into christopher pike books.. i read one.. and never got to finish.. cause it never hold me interest

While I read the Last Vampire series, I wasn't as impressed as the series went on. Being for "young adult" readers, it still originally had some interesting characters and development. But around book 3, it lost some of that pizazz that the first two books had.

Backreading, I noticed no one has mentioned the Harry Dresden files by Jim Butcher. I highly recommend these, especially if you love the mystery/police aspect of Anita. They are about CHicago's first professional wizards. While the world isn't aware of supernatural creatures, it certainly has a lot of feel like Anita sometimes.
Also, I highly concur with the person who recommended Lost Souls. Although it has a feel more like Anne Rice than LKH.

I have heard the Harry Dresden files mentioned before in the main book topic on Gaia, but I never knew what they were about. You make them sound good. I will have to check them out. Thanks!

I was reading over this forum...you're looking for books like LKH's Anita Blake's? Modern times with magic? Did anyone mention LKH's other series the Meredith Gentry series? Not sure if you know about them, but they are also very good, they're about a fairy princess, though not as stupid as 'fairy princess' makes them sound. There's gore, blood, magic, problems with the tabloids hounding her and fights for the throne. Good series to try.

Narniakat I love Dead Witch Walking!!! I just finished Minion by L.A.Banks and have just started the second book in that series, The Awakening. They are very good so far. I bought the book Bitten by Kelley Armstrong, but haven't read it yet. You mentioned Dime Store Magic by her, is it good? Is it related to Bitten at all? Kelly Armstrong has three books out...Bitten, Stolen then Dime Store...Industrial Magic is due out soon. She's a great writer and a pretty nifty lady. I got to talk to her a writer's workshop. Jim Butcher rocks my world... I want a t-shirt like Harry's that says 'You can cancel Easter...We found the body.'

D.Monica Are there any other series you'd recommend as an Anita Blake Reader? Some that are somewhat involved in the vampires or anything in that genre? Or in modern times, with magic involved? I'd personally Recommend Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison, Dime Store Magic by Kelly Armstrong..then the series by Tanya Huff..and The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.. I hope this thread hasn't been done before.. sweatdrop It's funny that you mention those authors. I was just checking out books by them the other night when looking for something Anita like. The only book I've read (well, haven't finished yet) thats like the Anita series is Dead Witch Walking which seems to be popular already within in the guild.

Yup! It was like Anita..i liked the length and alot of plot in Dead Witch Walking. I didn't mention Harry Dresden!! *gasp* Shame on me...*points to signature* I love that series as well, and can't wait for the next one even though Blood Rites has just recently been released. Tanya Huff is another good one, but sadly all her books are small..and so are most of Anita Blake. Dresden is too *whine* Dead Witch Walking and Dime Store Magic weren't to small. Which i'm more then happy for.. heart

I read two series of books back in middle school and high school. Both series are by L.J. Smith. The series are called "The Secret Circle" and the other is called "The Vampire Diaries." These are "young adult" series, but they are very good books.

I am currently reading "Blood is thicker than Water" by Wynette A. Hoffman. The cover is horrible and it is a good thing I had done a search based on story instead of finding it in a bookstore because given the cover, I would never have bought it. But I am about 1/3 done and it is surprisingly good. I have been thoroughly enjoying it. It has some S&M and vampires as well as some mythology.
I will post again when I am done to let you know how it was.

Bobsthename Lost Souls is a vampire book (To my knowledge).....with alot of sex....(again to my knowledge). Not too Anita-ish but somebody mayu like them. But, erm, it's all gay boys I think, and the father and the son are shagging. So it's got some incest o_o; Lost Souls and Drawing Blood by Poppy Z. Brite are really good for those among you who like something a bit darker. There isn't as much sex in them as the latest Anita book but the sex scenes are quite poignant and to some disturbing and weird. I like the books though, they have unique storylines and I'm willing to stand up for them. Also if you're into the darker stuff read the Dark Jewls trilogy by Anne Bishop... Darkness_sheds mentioned the Armstrong books which are also quite good. The werewolf ones following Elena ( Bitten and Stolen) are my favorites so far but I have just started reading Industrial Magic so we'll see... Blood and Chocolate was a Middle School fave that I still cherish. Somehow one of my family members knows Jim Butcher who writes the Harry Dresden books and pre reads his stuff. She'll swear by them, I personally haven't read any of them so I have no idea if they are any good. Over the summer I read I, Vampire by Michael Romkey which is kinda a mix between Rice and Hamilton, but more Rice which I also recomend. Charles de Lint has alot of modern world + magic books and I have to say he's a fantastic writer. I've only read a couple of his books but I think I liked Spirits in the Wires the most. I'd also like to mention Neil Gaiman's Sandman series which are non-manga graphic novels that I think the sort of people who like Anita will enjoy peroozing.
