Akui saw the older female, mostly black, like himself, with a few highlights of red.
He was a bit taken aback by her aggressive greeting. Most of the wolves Akui had in encountered had been pretty friendly and welcoming. He stopped in his tracks and his ears flicked back submissively.
"I am Akui, friend. I have not seen around these meadows before. I am fairly new myself, however..."

*An ear flicked back and the growl subsided, her bristled fur settling down, though she still did not remove her eyes from this new wolf, standing protectively over her food*
I have been by myself for these past few months... there are many wolves in these woods however none has sought me out for some time. What brings you to these parts, young one?

Akui sat down, making it clear he was not out to take her food (unless, of course, she offered him some...).
"Just seein' whose around. I'm trying to meet new companions. Its been a while since I've ... been with my pack"

*Nyx sighed, relaxing more and venturing to take another bite of the meat*
Your pack? *her ears flicked back again* You're not with that human lover, Notoka, are you?

"Nokota? No, no. I haven't met him. I've met his brother.
But no, I don't have a pack anymore. I left a few months ago to come here."

*Nyx nodded, then cocked her head* I did not know he had a brother... but no matter. You left your pack? *her mouth opened with a lolling laugh* Looking to start your own pack, boy?

Akui flicked an ear back in annoyance. His own pack? He couldn't deny that being raised for the majority of his young life expecting to assume the role of leader didn't plant a few seed of ambitious leadership-hunger in him. But he left those dreams behind him when he left his pack.
At least he thought he did.
He pawed absently at the ground. "I dunno. Maybe. Not really."

*Nyx cocked her head in confusion, taking another large bite of the rabbit* If you did not leave to try to begin a new pack, then why did you leave? Usually that is the reason young males strike out on their own.

He said simply: "My mother was the Alpha's mate. But I was not the alpha's son."

*Nyx stopped chewing and looked up at the this wolf silently for a few moments, those words saying more than needed to be said, explaining everything*
I.... seee... she hesitated, feeling a bit guilty for her suspicion, wondering what sort of life he must have had.
I am Nyx. She stated simply, nosing at her food*

Akui's ears lifted happily and his tail thumped slightly against the earth. "I'm Akui!" he said eagerly. "Nice to meet you."

*Nyx's tail wagged a bit from side to side and she took a few more bites of the food before nosing it towards Akui in a peace offering - there is about a quarter of the rabbit left - not a lot, but it's something*
I apologize for my suspicions... it has been too long since I have been with other wolves.

Akui whimpered his thanks and took care of what was left of the rabbit quickly.
"Oh, it's okay I suppose. I haven't been around too many myself. But tryin' to change that a bit," he said and gave a nod towards Nyx.

*nyx settled onto her haunches* I see.... it sounds like you have been lonely as well. These woods are large and I have seen there to be a lot of game about. I have seen other wolves about as well... but am not myself a part of any pack.... none of the others seem to share my concern for the danger that the two-legs pose.

"I have heard the other wolves speak of the two-legs. Some seem very sad when they do. I myself have never met one. My old pack was weary of them...What are they like?"
