Taji had always been under the impression that they had servants to do most of the more boring shopping, like underwear and shoes and pet food and bandaids. Her delusions of grandeur (or, more appropriately, comfort and non-boredom) were promptly shattered after a particularly messy day at the park.

It had just rained, and she had been splashing around in the puddles while her mother tried to convince her that what she really wanted was to go home. But no: Taji really, truly wanted to splash in puddles, and get her clothes all muddy and make her mother miserable, waiting in the rain. Slipping and skinning her knees had not been part of the plan, nor was the resulting buying of bandaids to hide the scabs she wanted to proudly display to the world.

"Maamaaaa," Taji whined, immediately latching onto her mother's skirts as she considered two different boxes of hydrogen peroxide, "Wan' go." As far as the young spirit was concerned -- if they weren't buying candy or toys, there was absolutely no need to grace this boring old convenience store with their prescence.

Madeleine smiled patiently at her daughter, directing the young girl's attention to the lower shelf of bandaid boxes. "Why don't you pick the kind you like?"

Taji obediently looked, and to her mother's relief, her interest was immediately piqued. The kind of bandaids they usually had at home were clear and practically invisible (the better for showing off war wounds!) -- these however, had dinosaurs, and flowers, and unicorns... The star spirit had never considered the fashion implications of bandaids before (or, more importantly, what would be most embarassing for her brothers to find stuck to their faces when they woke up in the morning.)

Rain.

Ick Was about the only sound Ardia could think to match her disgust at the falling, wet torture. The worst part was, she didn't even have anyone to balme for it! Sure, the sky, but there's only so long a girl can shake a glowing orange fist at an unresponsive entity.

"Shopping!" Hostel declaired, petting the child-restaining seat Ardia was latched into. "Isn't this exciting? I've never been shopping for..." Hostel paused, pupil-less eyes apperantly scanning the paper before her. "Band...aids? Indeed!"

The tiny, run down old car Hostel owned pulled up to the soaking curb of the supermarkets, engine spluttering in protest and issuing small amounts of steam. Normality, for the old car.

Ardia humphed and made displeased noises as she was dressed in a raincoat, given a tiny umbrella (which was decorated to look like a frog, with huge googly eyes. All the more degrading) and dragged out of the safety of the car.

Inside the Supermarket was bright, clean, and best of all dry. Ardia folded her round little arms, and looked around. Jingly, gimmicky music filled the air, issuing from an old radio, mothers and fathers and granparents and crying children dashed in every direction, looking, buying, talking, wanting. Ardia was altogether confused. The only time humans should run, is away. Away from death and pain and burning.

She noted, through glowing golden eyes, a woman and a child who were not running. Instead standing, calmly, not altogehter making that much noise.

"Deh!" Ardia declaired, pointing. She wanted to meet them, and now. She hadn't taken much to asking nicley though.

Hostel hadn't taken much to diciplining, and turned towards the two. Not really knowing what to say, or wanting to, at that, Hostel merely slunk over to stand next to the pair, setting Ardia on unsteady feet and examining the shelves.

Ah! Band-aids! What a lucky coincidence...and she began sifting through them to find, what she would soon deem to be the "best".

Taji found herself having to choose between the dinosaurs and the Barbie-themed bandaids: while she preferred the former, her brothers would have a fit over the latter. She had just tilted her head up towards her mother and began breathing in deeply and opening her mouth wide to ask for both, when her impending explosion of demands was interrupted by the arrival of something far more interesting.

It was a girl with a froggy umbrella who was on fire. Taji immediately dropped both boxes of bandaids and waved frantically at the girl. "Hay! Haaaaay!!" Were she any more coherent, she probably would have straightened and said, very nicely, 'excuse me miss, do you realize that you are on fire?' -- but she wasn't, so she did her best wriggly interpretive dance (which involved much arm-flailing, apparently, to symbolize the fire) to inform the newcomer of this important fact.

Finally she managed to stand still long enough to point and say, with much awe, "Fiery."

Madeleine, curious to see what had enthralled her daughter, glanced down to the little girl. She masked her surprise in a quick, barking cough, with hands flying up to cover her mouth; after a moment she recovered and managed a smile to Ardia. In retrospect, seeing literally fiery young girls was not so much of a surprise as it was to see them here; Madeleine was prepared to see many winged creatures and traits on humans who otherwise looked completely normal -- but not anything that would remind her so much of her own homeland.

"Say 'hi', Taji," she gently reminded her own little girl.

"Hiiiiii," Taji bleated obediently, still wide-eyed and clearly impressed.

Ardia gave Taji a look that quite clearly said, 'Yes I am on fire. You may bow to me now.' unfolding her arms and brandishing her umbrella towards the young star, indicating 'You have shiney things around you. That's kinda cool. I guess.'

Hostel stood well aback from the three, not wanting to get herself involved in any social situations. Especially in the bandaid eisle. She busied herself examining the packets nearby, humming to herself.
