I've heard screech owls before sounded nothing like one. Since I lived in Jersey, Louisiana and other places with assorted monsters I had some pretty interesting ideas about what it could be. I never heard it again which would be unusual for a territorial animal like a screech owl.

My raccoon family continues to visit. The weather's been so warm that their "hibernation" (they're like bears; they don't have a true hiberation as they wake up from time to time to eat) has got be confused.
My family thinks I'm nuts (so what else is new?) because I've named the parents. The mom is Georgie after Curious George. Whenever I turn a flashlight on them from the kitchen, she stand up on her hind feet to look up at the window. The dad is Buddha. He's got to be close to 20 pounds ( eek ) and actually sits on his hind legs or lies flat on his big belly to eat.

We had Charlie gator at the Battleship North Carolina and George gator at the Hoescht Celanese plant up the river.
If you look at a map of Wilmington you'll see that a creek comes into town from the northwest side. We had a blackbear follow the creek and there was a lady feeding it marshmallows from her backporch a couple streets over from where we lived. I also had rattlers and copperheads in my yard every so often.
