Mecca ignored the fire at the ends of his hair as he continued to tighten his binding, advancing on Yaku. He would squeeze every last inch of life out of the wealsel.
The flames were creeping up slowly, Mecca could not extinguish them and use his binding. However he knew he was nearly there, just a little tighter and he would have him where he wanted him.
"Leave us alone." He growled, feeling the heat of the flames lick at his face.

Yaku could feel the tingle in his extremeties as his blood cried for oxygen. Glaring at the red shu, his eyes drooped for a moment, but he forced them open again.
"Fine," he managed to choke out. He may have won this round, but Yaku was far from finished with him now. Now he knew what he was up against, he thought as he watched with a morbid fascination as his flames massacred the shu before him and Mecca didn't even flinch.

Mecca strengthened his grip once more before letting Yaku go and stepping backwards to extinguish his hair.
"Go!" He cried as he stalked back towards the house, barely managing to maintain his composure. "Before I finish you off."

Yaku winced as the binding tightened once more around him and then collapsed to the groud as he was released, gasping desperately for air. Glaring at Mecca as he returned to the house, he grabbed his things from the ground and pushed himself up to his feet, smoothing his hand over his hair. With a spiteful spark in his eyes he snapped his fingers once more to ignite the door he was headed towards and the grim still lay wimpering by. Turning he started off down the street, his mind already starting to work through what he would do the next time he crossed paths with the red shu.

Mecca was drained, it had taken a lot of power to hold Yaku, not to mention the pain of his injuries starting to sink through his resolve. he could see the flames and knew he had to put them out ... his life was in that shop. But he did not have the energy.
Stumbling up the steps towards Scim he picked him up and made his way back down them, his strength going on the last step. He fell on his back into the street still clutching Scim to his chest.

Covet emerged from the alley near their home with a smile on her face. Visiting Laurete was always so relaxing and such a pleasure. Turning the corner, her smile disappeared instantly as her eyes saw smoke billowing out from the doorway. Running towards the house, her eyes fell on a red crumpled heap on the street and terror seized her as she ran faster.
"Mecca!" she cried out, falling to her hands and knees beside him. Her eyes swept over him and took in his grisly state and her heart nearly broke at the cries of pain from Scim. Afraid to touch them just yet, she looked back up at the house, the entryway fully ablaze now. Rising to her feet, she immediately began singing and stretched her wings out. Using the gust of wind that swept in on her song, she carried herself up to the bedroom window that she had left open. Stepping into the bedroom she quickly grabbed a wooden flute out of the chest at the foot of the bed and ran back down the stairs, the fire starting to work its way into the house now. Facing the open doorway, the heat pressing in on her and toying with her hair, she put the flute to her lips and began playing a summoning song.
It came slowly, a cool breeze caressing her skin. She intensified her playing and closed her eyes to concentrate on pouring her magic into her song. A strong gust of wind suddenly surged up behind her, visible only by the random bits of paper it had picked up and the swirling of her skirts and hair. Satisfied with its strength, she opened her eyes and willed the torrential whirlwind to sweep forward. All around her bits of paper and cloth surged forward and like a breath to a candle's flame, the majority of the fire was blown out.
Breathing deeply she ran into the kitchen behind her and grabbed the large bucket she used for washing and filled it with water. Struggling with its weight she hurried back out into the entryway and extinguished the left over bits of flame. Satisfied it was out, she ran down into Mecca's shop to grab a sack of healing items he kept just in case.
Racing back outside, a small crowd had started to gather, though none of the awestruck shu had bothered with the injured red shu and his baby grim. Falling again to her knees beside them, with shaking hands, she placed them both gently on Mecca's blistered face. Taking a deep breath, she focused on his closed eyes and began to sing her healing song, pouring every last bit of her strength into every note and syllable as she reached for any of his inner strength that she prayed was still left.

Mecca heard the feint singing. It was sweet and beautiful, he knew the voice well and wanted to reach out to it. He could feel whisps of conciousness lifting him and bringing him strength. It was like nothing he had ever felt before, it was warm and loving.
"Covet." He managed to say reaching his hand up to the voice. "Help Scimitar. He needs it more."

Tears immediately sprang to her eyes as she heard Mecca's hoarse voice say her name. Taking his hand in hers, she paid no attention to the blood as she held it tightly. Quickly brushing her tears away with her free hand, she pulled Mecca's singed coat back from Scim and gasped at the state the small pup was in. She quickly realized she didn't have time to cry. Releasing Mecca's hand and carefully pulling the small pup into her lap, she began to sing a soothing song for them both as she emptied out the bag of healing supplies on the ground beside her. Sifting through until she found what she needed, she began to clean Scim's burns and place a cooling salve meant to heal burns on his small body.

Mecca closed his eyes as he listened to her tend to Scimitar. The poor grim sounded like he was in a really bad way. Mecca breathed deeply, gathering all the strength he had peft and forcing himself to sit up. Ignoring the pains theat screamed through his face and chest where Yaku's flames had burned him.
"I can't see." He said to the blury white form in front of him with a slight hint of dispair. "How bad is he?"

Covet frowned in concern as Mecca started to sit up, but was glad to see that he would be alright. His next words sent a chill through her and she looked up from Scim to peer at his eyes. They needed a healer. This was all really beyond her.
"H-He'll be okay Mecca," she said softly, then looked up at the shu around them. A familiar honey toned shu had finally cut her way through the crowd and Covet felt a small twinge of relief as her eyes fell on the girl that she had employed.
"Meli, please help," she called out to her mystic friend.
Meli saw the destruction before her and pushed the shu in front of her out of her way, rushing to Covet's side at her friend's plea. Reaching out, she placed her golden hand on Mecca's uninjured shoulder and reached out with her power to assess how much damage had been done to him.
"We should get him inside," she said and then looked down at the animal that Covet was cradling in her lap. "Let me have him," she said, reaching for Scim. Cradling the pup in her arms, she murmured a spell and his wounds immediately began to heal.
Covet relinquished Scim to her friend and looked to Mecca.
"Can you stand Mecca?" she asked him, moving to his side to carefully slip his arm over her shoulder.

Mecca nodded and stood slowly with Covet's help. The only problem with his legs was the lack of energy within them. Something that Covet's song had helped emensely.
Slowly and trying not to lean to much of his weight on her they made their way slowly towards the blackened door of the house.
"I'm sorry." He said to her as they walked. "He hurt Scim and ... I couldn't stop myself."

"Shh," Covet started to say as he began to speak, but frowned sharply at his next words.
"He? You mean someone did this?" she asked looking around the soot filled entryway. "Who did it Mecca?" she demanded, looking up at him as she led him over to the drawing room so he could stretch out on the chaise there, Meli following slowly behind them with Scim.

"Yaku." He said, easing himself down onto the chaise and lying back with a sigh of relief as he closed his eyes. "He came for you, I told him to leave, he hurt Scimitar and I went after him." He coughed a little and reached out his hand for hers.

At the red and black shu's name a darkness slipped into Covet's eyes. He had truly gone too far this time. Quickly slipping her hands around Mecca's, she eased herself onto the chaise beside his legs.
"Don't talk anymore. It's okay now. Meli is going to heal you and she's already healed Scimmy. It's going to be okay my love," she said softly, raising his hand to her lips. She turned her eyes up to Meli and saw a warm smile on her friend's lips as she gently placed Scim in her lap so she could turn her attention to Mecca.

At the sound of of a healthy bark from Scimitar. Mecca smiled and lay his head back again, flexing his hand to rest it against Covet's smooth cheek as he waited for the other Shu to help him.
He hated feeling so helpless. He smirked, he really did have a control freak complex.
