"A little village in the Earth Kingdom." Chen glanced at her as he finally caught up, and reconsidered restuffing his hands into his parka as he stepped into the hut. "We're close enough to a popular city for Pop and Mam to run their shop there, though." Another careless shrug. He'd practically grown up in that shop.
"Yourself?"

"I'm originally from the Northern Water Tribe, but I disagreed with their customs." She said bluntly. "I'm a traveler, instead. I've been wandering mostly in the Earth Kingdom for a few years now." She glanced to Chen. "Do you have a prefrence of what kind of drink?" And she wondered if they had Buffalo Deer. The milk they produced, when spiced right and warm, was quite a treat to her.

Chen Shing chose not to comment on the customs of the water tribe up north (not that he was more than vaguely familiar with them at best anyway) and simply wrote it up as 'conflict of interest'. Close enough, anyway. Briefly, he wondered if he hadn't seen her before back home, but dismissed that just as quickly. Everyone knew how big the Earth Kingdom was. Still, he made a mental note to ask Pop whenever he wandered back home.
"Nah." Another shrug. "If it's warm and doesn't taste like medicine, I don't really care." A corner of his mouth quirked up, but soon found it's way back into the familiar neutral line.

She had a chuckle at his reply, and turned to the young man on duty.
Once they had their drinks she settled several pieces, mostly copper with one or two gold down for him as payment. No Buffalo-deer milk (They weren't common here in the South like in the North apparently, pity...), but she settled for a cup of hot cider, and for a while she was silent as she savored the taste of the warm liquid sliding down her throat.

Chen Shing nursed his own cider, perfectly content with the silence. He wasn't much for a lot of small talk, obviously. Also, apparently, not one for waiting a minute for the cider to cool enough so he could drink it.
The earth kingdom native made a face, sticking his tongue out briefly before putting it back in his mouth. "Hot." He settled for warming his hands on the cup for a moment before tempting fate again.

"That would be why they call it -hot- cider."
Was that a tease? Who knew, Meilin didn't crack any grin or smirk noteworthy enough to tell, and was already hiding her expression again behind her own cup before it could be studied. She was, however, teasing.

He made a wry face, glancing up at the older woman before returning his attention to his cup.
"Apparently."
Was that a corner of his mouth twisting upwards? Ach, it faded before it could be seen properly. In any case, the boy looked aware that he was being teased. Tentatively, he braved another sip of his cider, finding it cool enough to drink now.

For the continued duration of their time spent together, it mirrored the first five minutes of their encounter rather closely. Neither had much to say as they enjoyed their beverages, and after the drinks were finished, and the tab paid, they rose again to exit the public-igloo.
Meilin lifted her hood to her face, once standing outside the doorway. It was time to be on her way to see what she could find out about water-bending instructors.
"Well, Chen-shing, it was nice to meet you. I hope your ship comes in soon." She began in the usual calm tone, expression passive as the winds tugged a bit at the fur of her coat. "Goodbye, for now." She nodded, then turning and heading towards the village.
Perhaps they'd meet again in warmer weather someday.
