She tried to play growl at him as he poked her while she passed in front of him, swatting at his large paws with her tinier ones. Someday she might beat him, perhaps it was a dream of hers. To get big and strong and be able to poke at Ger's sides and she would be the one laying down smiling so nicely.

Yes, perhaps one day it would happen.

Kaede sat down in front of Ger and tilted her head while still smiling, "Do you think I'll get real big real soon Ger? Like you...I mean, I've been waiting to get big for so long, it seems like it will never come...am I like...not doing things right?"

She ahd been runnig everyday, practicing her pouncing and blanace, what was she doing wrong? Ger would know, he was so much older and smarter then she was, he would HAVE to know what was wrong.

Ger smirked, prowling at her when she hit him back. Her paws were so soft compared to his, his were hardened from his rough, long runs and solo huntings he did before. She was so small and lanky, it was adorable and cute. To him, he saw her as a defenseless cub, wanting to play with her father, wanting his company. Who knows, guess it was just instinct to be fatherly and he didn't even have a family let alone brothers or sisters.

One day perhaps. But until then he can be fatherly to those who want it.

"Well, you can't do anything right or wrong, you just got to do what you think is what you need to do, Kaede. You'll get big, and you will get strong, you will be better than others and others will be better than you. Just...go with it, that is what I did."

He smiled again and rolled onto his back, to stare at the sky, a past time of his. He ran vast distances into unclaimed territories or places he never been to. Met many strange lions, nice ones, mean ones, ones who just seemed wierd to him. He hunted almost everything, giraffes, wildebeast, rabbits, birds, a lot of things by himself, it kept him going and it just...made him forget.

"Tell you the truth, you aren't doing anything wrong."

She tilted her head to the side and listened to him speak, then watched as he rolled over onto his back, just staring up at the sky. She would do that sometimes, to find shapes in any clouds that were up there, she loved the ones that looked like little bunnies with little fluffy tails.

Her favorite images were those of lions, some wrestling together, they were nice to look at. Big dreams up above, what Kaede tried to do but didn't seem to get closer to.

Kaede padded up next to him and rolled onto her back, her side touching his. This was perfect, so nice, Ger was her best friend, she wanted to see him stay and never go. But she knew he would have to, to go talk to his dad and what not...she wondered what his dad looked like. But she didn't want to ask now and ruin the bonding moment.

"I do this sometimes...mostly at night though, look at the stars sparkle..." her tail was still wagging as her green eyes looked up into the endless blue sky, her tail hitting him every now and then gently.
"I'll keep my promise to you Ger if you at least promise to come back, even if you can't stay here forever...you're my best friend..."

He smiled and moved her onto his chest, pawing her head softly. She was an important friend of his, one from his new life, without her…he would not have gotten so close to the Pride Lands if it were not for her. Sometimes he was foolish to believe that she truly was a lion in a jackal’s body…. no, she had a lion’s heart.

“I promise, Kaede. I promise that I will come back here even if I cannot stay. Sorry for making you wait for so long this time, I was just kept up, y’know?”

He replied, his tone apologetic and still soft and confident. He wrapped his around his chest, around her and purred softly deep in his chest, quietly. It had been so long since he was able to stare up into the sky this long. When he did he grew tired, calm and relaxed into a drifting sleep though quickly awoke to avoid his dreams. He wished…he could dream, ones that could not make him regret his choice to stay with Kujack. He wanted to stay with him, he really did, but his heart ached for home, the place where he was born. He was raised out here in the free life, but something yearned for the company of a pride. But staring up at the sky it just felt so….calm…

“It’s beautiful…isn’t it?”

He murmured staring up at the sky above them, the soft clouds drifting past with the warm breeze. Laying in the grass, staring at the sky…it just made everything so pointless and therefore calm and relaxing, problems stripped away.

She had grown up with the thought she was a lion, even though she saw her parents and siblings first she had her heart and mind set on it. It would never leave her fully, if she ever found out the 'truth' she would probably try to ignore it, or become something better then a lion and a jackal. But that was for time to tell if she ever knew the truth behind what she really was.

Kaede smiled and wagged her tail, trying tp 'purr' back at Ger as he did to her, it was an odd sound, but it was soft, "I can't be mad at Ger, you're my best friend, you came back once...there's no doubt you will come visit again," she knew that for a fact for some reason. Knowing Ger would never fully leave her at any moment in time.

She nodded at Ger saying teh sky was pretty, it was, but she saw it everyday, it changed with teh winds, true, but she longed to be able to be real big like Ger, be able to wander around teh Pridelands more, perhaps even venture outside the boundaries. But she would always come home, this was her home.

"Ger..." she spoke spftly, turning over so that she could be closer up against him, a curious tone in his soft voice, "What's it like, out there..." she asked pointing with ehr paw in the direction he ahd come from. She was curious, she had dreamt of other lands, but she really wanted to know. "Are there a lot of lions like us out there?"

Ger smiled and nuzzled her softly, she was just adorable. Small and cublike, but still a young one. Maybe that is what drawn Ger to her.

"And you are one of mine, Kaede. I am sure I will make it a priority to come visit you more often if I can't come back."

He assured, nuzzling her again, licking her head softly.

With a heavy breathe, he smiled and returned his gaze up to the sky.

"The world out there...is just like it is here. Free to wander, free to do anything you want. Meet new animals, new faces, new friends. There is a lot out there to see, too much for one lifetime, just enjoy it as it comes. There are more than us out there, you just got to know where to look."

He said sagely, clouds passing in his eyes. It was what it was, the world outside of the Pride Lands was the same, home was the same. Everything was just...so vast that it was almost too hard to tell the difference once you are out there.

"This is our home, as long as you hold true to it, it will always welcome you back."

The adolescent said, remembering the words the great Queen Sarabi, his great-aunt, once told him.

Home...that is where I want to be...

She wanted to see it all, it made her daydream as he spoke, pictures and images matching what Ger said, different colored lions or all shapes nad sizes. Different places, dark and light. It was all too tempting, but she knew she would never be able to leave the Pridelands alone, she was scared of leaving the Pridelands somewhat.

Green hues watched the clouds pass by, the blue sky seeming pure, no avaians flying today, not a lot of noise,the wind blew gently, ruffling her fur on her tail. This was nice. But it would end sometime, when Ger would have to go back from where he came, but she was glad he would still come back if he couldn't stay, but she still didn't want to let go;

She didn't want to have to say good-bye again.

Kaede curled closer to Ger, so much that she was curled almost in a tight ball, refusing to move, "Ger...when will you have to go back?" her voice was quiet and soft, she blinked once or twice and stared out at the tall grasses that swayed with the wind, seeing teh silouettes of the wildebeast in the distance. Her back was snuggled up against him, not because she was mad, just because thats the way she curled up against him at the moment.

She rolled over again, to snuggle her face against his side, paws against him, she didn't want him to go, but the little pup/cub knew it would come, it was inevitable.

"Well, I should go hunting soon to get some food for Aysha, she's....."

Then it hit him, Aysha was pregnant! How long has it been!? Ger jerked up, shifting his head side to side, almost forgetting about the female on him. She was gonna have birth soon! Ger made a promise, he knew he did, he promised to be there at the birthing for Kujack. Forget hunting, he had to get back, he had to get back as soon as possible.

Quickly getting to his feet he turned to Kaede.

"I'm sorry, Kaede, but I have to go. My Dad's mate is having her cubs soon and I promised I'd be there for her! I promise to come back to visit some time and let you know on my Dad's decsion. I really got to go! Thank you for helping, Kaede. Bye!"

He shouted as he sprinted off to his Dad's den. He had to make it up to the little cub the next time he comes for her.

Don't be late.Don't be late.Don't be late.Don't be late.Don't be late.Don't be late.Don't be late.Don't be late.Don't be late.

Hunting? Hunting was nice, thought Kaede really couldn't catch much on her own, except for a small fish here and there when she could find one and get close enough to it. Perhaps she and Ger could go hunting sometime.

Her green eyes watched Ger as he got up quickly, what was he doing? Who was Aysha? Aysha was his dad's mate...did that make her Ger's mom? Wait! Ger had to leave?! Right now!

"But Ger I-" and Ger tore off in the direction from which he came. She was frantic now, no, she didn't want him to leave. She wanted him to stay,
"Ger wait!" she started to run after Ger, watching his golden form start to get farther and farther away, she was at the farest point of the Pridelander borders, Kaede was afraid to step over it.

Her ears folded back, her tail hung low, a sad expression upon her maw. Ger said he would come back, he did apologize before leaving so soon. But now he was gone again, and she would have to wait for him, look for a den for him...

But she didn't even get to say good-bye.

Kaede turned around, tail hung low and started to pad off slowly towards her family's den, she hoped everything went well with Ger. But she was lonely again, she hoped to see her best friend soon.
