Jacob's smallish spacecraft moved up next to the wreck.
"Yeah, yeah."
The ship moved slowly along the hull, examining it with a spotlight.
"Yeah. Another ship. They don't look dangerous."
A screen inside the cockpit lit up, indicating a suitable entry point.
"OK... Yeah, it's, uh, called 'Dessert Cat'. I know."
Jacob chuckled.
"What are they looking for, pudding? Yeah. OK, I'm going in now."
Jacob got out of the pilot's chair and walked through a smallish door at the back of the cockpit.
"Yeah, I'll maintain communications."
A light on the helmet of Jacob's black spacesuit turned on. Then, a door opened in front of Jacob. He stepped through into a small chamber, and the lights inside Jacob's helmet turned on, illuminating his face. He wondered why human spacesuits do that.
"I'm in the airlock. OK, almost done..."
The outer door of the airlock opened, revealing a large hole in the ship's hull.
"OK, most of the ship is secure. Air and everything. But this section's damaged, no air, but there's still gravity generators. The generators seem to be in a cylinder, down the middle. The ship's built around it. OK, I'm going in."
Jacob jumped out of the airlock, and fell through a hole in the ship, before landing on a metal floor.
"Looks like an asteroid. Gravity's low."
Jacob then walked cautiously forward, making sure the floor is secure.
"Ok. Seems safe."
Jacob then stood up straight, and confidently walked forward to one of the emergency airlocks in the ship.

“He is hiding something! He is trying to scare us of!” Shouted one of the crew.
“That’s enough. I think we’d better go back to the ship to discuss the best course of action. What ever that creature was it hasn’t just vanished and I don’t feel like arguing so out in the open.” Bridget sighed, so much for a routine exploration mission.

The airlock door squealed as it opened. Jacob stepped through, into the small chamber. The door closed behind him.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm in. No, I don't see any danger yet."
Jacob sighed as the chamber filled with air. Then, the door in front of him creaked as it opened.
"Hasn't been used in a while. But it still works. OK, what's the status of the, erm, Dessert Cat?"
He walked down a darkened corridor, rounded a corner, and continued on.
"OK. Right. Well, I'd better get a move on."
Then, he smashed the glass cover on the emergency doorswitch. He pulled the switch down, as as he did, the door to the control room of the ship opened.
"I've got access. You sure this is going to work?"
He slowly crept into the control room, searching the room with his flashlight, cautiously making sure there are no living things or security countermeasures.

The Doctor sighed. "Of course I've got something to hide! Doesn't everyone? I mean, have you told me all your secrets yet?" he asked, looking around at the group.

Turning to the apparent leader, he said. "Right, I'm not too sure on what that creature was either, I don't recognise it, and believe me, I've seen a lot of stuff over my lifetime. But I do agree on finding somewhere safer."

"Of course Doctor." Said Bridget. "You are coming with us, whether or not you are responsible for this it would be stupid and dangerous for my crew if you were to be left here on your own."

"No, nothing. Yes, I am sure."
Jacob approached one of the strange consoles.
"OK. I'll set it up now. No, no, lockdown's fine. The hull's in such a state, I'm sure you'll find an entry point. OK. Don't worry, I'll keep the inner doors open."
He found a panel, covered with sockets for inserting different devices. He pulled a small black cube out of one of his pockets, and inserted it into the appropriate slot. A few seconds passed, and then the control room lit up.
"Right. Here we go."
He pushed a button, typed in a code on a keypad, then flipped up a glass protector and pressed the red button within.
"OK, done."
Then, there was a loud creaking noise, followed by a clank, and then a whirr. One of the many computer screen lit up with a wireframe map of the ship, in green, with red lines representing locked doors, blue lines representing unlocked doors, orange lines representing airlocks and white lines representing the hull.
"Hey, look what I found! No. No. No. No, it's a bloody map. Yeah. This'll be useful. I know. Anyway, you'd better get over here, probably best if you tow this one away whole. The map says every single outer door and airlock's shut tight. No-one who's inside is getting out until I say so. Yeah. Well, I suppose, but they don't seem like a threat. OK. Well, once you guys arrive, take out those other weirdos and then I'll unlock the doors. Oh, right. Forgot."
He tapped a button on the keypad on his wrist. A light beneath the button lit up red.
"Weird. Can't seem to get a signal to my ship."
His tone suddenly became bored, indignant, as though he were reciting something he hated to recite, and had recited it many times in the past.
"I will keep an emergency transmitter on me so I can escape should something bad arrive, and will keep it powered up at all times."
His voice returned to normal.
"Thank you. Well, sorry. But you know I hate that rule."
He toyed with a small stick-like device with a red button on one end, and a lid on the other, for inserting power cells.
"I know it's for my own safety, but I'm a pirate for gawd's sake. If I wanted a safe job I'd have become a janitor on a cruise ship. Or joined some planetary defence force in neutral space, or the passive zone. Well, it is true, isn't it? Anyway, better make sure nobody undoes my hard work."
Jacob pulled a plug out of his backpack and attached it to the matching socket beneath the screen. He waited until a light on his backpack turned green. Then, he unplugged the cable, which then wound back into his backpack, and walked out of the control room, turned to the door control panel, and entered 2384 on the keypad. The door sealed tight behind him as he walked further into the ship, swinging the cable around in boredom.

They walked back to the Desert Cat in silence. Bridget nodded to herself quietly when she saw the other ship docked near a damaged section of hull.
"That yours then?" She asked the Doctor.

"Erm, nope. Not mine. I thought that was yours." he said to the crew. "Apparently it's not yours, then. So who's is it?" he asked.

"Well that raises another interesting question. If it isn't yours, then who's is it?” Bridget asked.

"In any case, I think we should all watch our backs. We already know that someone dangerous is at work, and they might be alone, or allied with this ship's crew. Anyway, we shouldn't stay here any longer"

The Doctor looked around at the group, and started to head off back down the corridors...

They walked along the tunnel that connected the desert cat to the outer hull of the alien ship. Bridget was now fairly certain that this Doctor was telling the truth about the monster and the crew of the other ship. But still, she kept her eyes carefully on him.

Jacob continued on his way, heading aft towards the engine room. He noticed the smashed glass and twisted metal, and started to notice something was different. This one hadn't just crashed, it had been damaged from the inside also.
"That is odd. Signs of...well, something. Looks like something powerful grabbed this bar and twisted it a bit. No. Looks more like, erm, organic damage. That is, something alive took a hold of this and then...well, anyway. Better get to the engines. Yes. Yeah, I...wait, I'll check."
Jacob took his backpack off and looked through its contents.
"Whoops. Looks like I left it on the ship."
He sighed a frustrated sigh and put his backpack on.
"No, I left a path open. Yeah, I'll be fine. No, no, that's ok, wouldn't want to waste precious time. What? Oh, ok. Right...well, keep a landing spot reserved, would'ya? Thanks. O-k..."
He started walking back to his original entry point

They reached the desert cat and went aboard. Bridget instantly felt relieved to be out of the alien ship. There had been a smell in there she did not like. It made her think of death.

Reaching the hole in the ceiling, Jacob gazed up toward the underside of his ship, spotlights scanning the area beneath it. The gravity generators were getting weaker, give them another day or two and the whole ship would be in zero-gravity. It only took a fairly good jump upwards to escape the gravity field and float up, to his ship.
"Yeah, I'm still here. Uh-huh."
He grabbed the bars at either side of the airlock. Then, he noticed something. Activity on the Desert Cat.
"Oh, looks like they're up to something. Hmm. I thought I engaged lockdown? Well, it's an old ship. I'll send another command."
If there had been air for sound to travel through, Jacob would have heard the sound of many airlocks sealing tight at once. The airlocks were old, it seemed, and needed two commands to wake them up. Jacob let go of the bars with one hand, using the newly-freed hand to operate the touch-screen on his opposing wrist. The map showed all outer and maintenance airlocks sealed, requiring access codes to unlock. While they could be hacked into and opened that way without too much effort, the other ship didn't exactly look like techno-magi or rival pirates, and Jacob supposed that even if they did have the equipment they probably wouldn't have either the knowledge or software required.
"Hmm. No, not entirely secure. But we might want access, you know. By we, I mean, I. Hmm. Still, better get me tools..."
He used his free hand to enter his password on the illuminated keypad next to his ship's airlock. Air hissed out of the edges of the door as it decompressed, and again, if there had been air Jacob would have heard a squealing.
