I remember that... I just can't remember for the life of me why we started, or what we were doing in the circle in the first place. sweatdrop Right now, mum's got all the candles in the family room lit, and it looks so, so nice. smile

Anyone know how to make candles? Would melting other candles and sticking a wick in it work? Jess and I were wondering... It doesn't sound like a very easy way to go about it, though...

Technically that would work, however, you wouldn't know what has been added to the candle in the first place, it would be harder than making it from scratch and it would certainly take longer to melt the wax.
To make a basic candle you need - wax (pellets are easiest), a saucepan of water and a bowl, a candle wick and a mould.
Put the bowl into the saucepan of water and heat the water on the stove.
Add the wax and gently stir but don't let any of the water mix with the wax. The water should be heating the bowl and the wax should be slowly melting.
Once melted you can add stearin (to lengthern the candles burning time) a few drops of essential oils and/or wax dyes to colour your candle (the dyes are pretty hit and miss as you can't tell the true colour until the wax has set but it's fun to experiment).
Next you need to put your wick into the mould, then pour the wax in but leave a little melted stil in the bowl. Let the wax set and you will find that a well forms around the wick on the top. Before it sets hard just pierce the well and top up with the left over wax to flatten the top.
Leave to set and remove from mould (unless you have poured the wax directly into the container you want to use for example a small glass candle holder) and just trim the wick.

Right now I can only get candles from our local dollar store, but they have some nice ones that smell wonderful.

Here's what I do.
I take all the old candle stubs, and sort through them to find those of the colour that I want. I put the wax in a jar -designated for the purpose- (wax is really hard to get off!) and put that in a saucepan about-half filled with water. At this point I add any essential oil I want to use for scent. I boil it on the stove until all the wax is melted and then I -use oven mitts- to pick it up and pour it into my molds. Then I put little metal-bottomed wicks into the molds and let everything harden for about 24 hours.
You can get the wicks and molds at most big craft stores.
