He offered another grateful smile towards the mare for her kind words, nodding briefly before lifting his head towards the sky again to stare at the clouds. "I suppose it is something I will have to get used to. Maybe I'll find someone or something I wish to protect, but until then, I can't help but feel a little useless." He gave her a sheepish grin as he shifted in the cool water. "So, what does one normally do for fun around here?"

'You should know then of the Kalona, the Soquili's that two-leggers speak of with fear.' Meena spoke quietly, as though she expected someone to be listening. 'When I was little, a local Kalona tried, well I believe she wanted to make me so lost that I would die in the wilderness, but my mother found me. They are evil.' she blew air out through her nostrils. 'You would be very useful around the Village, if you are wanting to protect. There often foals around there.'

"Kalona?" he echoed curiously, brows raised in a questioning manner as his head lowered to meet her gaze once more. "They are soquili like us? Are you sure they are not simply bad-tempered? I've often found that 'evil' can be a misconception..." he shuddered slightly at the thought of Jenova and Sephiroth, the true definition of 'evil'.

'Would you consider it just a bad temper that led that Kalona to steal me from my mother's side?' Meena snorted, expressing her surprise at his words. 'If my mother had not found me then the crows would have.' 'They are Soquili true, but if even the two-legged ones fear them, I would say it is not a case of bad tempers.'

"Hm, well, I suppose I can't argue with that... but the kind of malevolent evil that I know is a power that hungers for more power over all other things, wants everyone and everything to suffer for its pain." His eyes narrowed unconsciously as he thought of the anomaly that was Jenova, the calamity that fell from the sky, and killed so many people. "The kind of evil that I fought back in my old home would have killed you, not simply taken you from your mother. Some souls are simply misguided and angry, but not necessarily evil."

'I think she preferred to watch my mother's pain and panic when she had realised I was gone. When Ardia found me she seemed so scared..' She shook herself, her mane flaring out before settling against her neck again. 'Well..as for fun, you'd be best asking someone who hasnt been gone for months. I left here not long after I grew, I wanted to see further then the Village, and went travelling. This morning was my first back here again.'

He offered a sympathetic look for her discomfort in discussing the subject, nodding slightly in quiet understanding, but didn't say any more. He knew, probably better than anyone, that some things were better left unsaid. He blinked a few times in response to her latter statement, tilting his head to one side in a rare display of innocent curiosity. "A traveler, eh? Where did you travel to, miss Meena?"

'Far,' she replied enigmatically then laughed, flicking her tail in her merriment. 'I wanted to see the mountains that my Father came from, and after seeing those I just kept going until I felt I could travel no more.' She shifted her legs, moving a little on the bank. 'I missed my family, and my home. And well...I kind of..' It was difficult to explain but she'd had yearnings for company of the male kind - and not her Father Sheridan!

He nodded in understanding, having experienced a similar thing himself, but he wasn't in any sort of rush. "Traveling is a wonderful way to find your way on the path of this life, to come into your own and discover your own being." He remembered the endless starry nights he'd spent beside his father's stone statue, simply wondering what his life would have been like if he'd known the truth back then.

'I don't know about that really. I mean, I know I'm strong enough to be on my own for a long time, but I also came to realise that sometimes you need others, you need your family and the strongest thing is to admit that.' Meena smiled at Nanaki, stretching her neck and nosing him gently. 'Would you like to meet my mother, Ardia? She'll be around the Village and easiest to find.'

He returned the gentle smile with one of his own, nodding his own ascent as golden eyes lifted to look in the direction of the two-leggeds' village before falling to meet her own again. "I would love to. And you're right, assuming one has any remaining family, true strength could come from relying on them." He offered her a lopsided and somewhat sheepish grin as he shifted in a bout of slight discomfort. "Unfortunately, I don't have any family left."

'I'm sorry,' Meena cursed inwardly, having babbled on about her own family to one who didnt have any! 'Follow me,' she turned, clipping a little from the stream before turning to see whether he was actually following her.

"No reason to be sorry," he offered with a reassuring smile, shaking his head to emphasize his point. "I came to terms with their deaths a long time ago." He paused a moment while she turned and trudged down the stream, taking a moment to shake off his firey red coat before tromping after her through the cool water. He could smell hints of campfires and food on the air, no doubt signifying the nearness of the two-leggers' village, but he had yet to see one. "Did you grow up with humans?"

'Well, I still shouldnt have done that. Not everyone is the same, I often forget,' she spoke as she clipped along, tail swishing behind her. She left the water, veering off away from the stream a little, hooves treading a well worn path. 'I was born in the Village with my sister and brother. I grew up around humans, but my Mother is the one that knows them better then I. I prefer Soquili's for company.' After a small time, the outskirts of the Village came into view, teepees could be seen and the inhabitants that were moving around, going about their lives. She only vaguely remembered the teepee that her mother's human called home and so she instead headed for the main fire of the Village, it was an easier landmark and a spot that her mother liked to spend her day near as Soquili and people often congregated there.

"It's an easy mistake to make," he dismissed her concern, tossing his head lightly to get a strand of his auburn forelocks away from his eyes. When the golden orbs settled upon the small congregation of triangular dwellings in the small valley below, however, his eyes widened fractionally. These were the humans of this world? Just how far from Midgar was he? Not that he was complaining, of course, but still... it was strange.
Realizing he was just standing and gawking, the stallion straightened and cleared his throat, grinning sheepishly as he stepped after the mare and observed their surroundings with a childlike curiosity as they passsed through the village. "It must be nice to live in a place like this... no war, no corruption or pollution..."
