"Pothibly," Sid said. He held out his webbed hand, the same one Billy had fawned over during their first encounter. "Heah. Lemme he'p yeh uh... up."
He'd never have the chance to bite his nails to the quick again. Of all the things to miss... Sid rolled his eyes at the thought.

"No poin'.... in gettin' up..." Billy shook his head, tentacles worming over eachother in the damp grass, "Aint got... no legs t'stand on." He seemed to think this was hilarious, breaking down into slurred, intoxicated giggling.

"Righ'," Sid said, nodding along. He put his free hand back on his side. "Thilly uf meh."
He put his weight back on the cane. The faint twinge from his knee promised he'd fell a hell of a lot worse whenever the drugs wore off. He glanced to his watch only to remember he had no idea how much time had past since he start following the other river feeding the lake... or fed from the lake... he had no idea how that sort of thing worked, come to think of it.
He pondered that in silence long enough for things to get a little more awkward, until at last he shook his head and pushed aside the deeply troubling question of how things were supposed to flow.
"Wha ah yeh dooin' heah ehnee-weh?" He asked. "En the ga-- the grass."
He cringed and turned his head at the movement required to get the simple 'r' out of his mouth. Baby steps, right...

Billy had to think about that for a while, his brows furrowed as he worked to dredge past the seditives to the facts that were lurking below. "Grass...?" His gears ground and crunched befor his gaze dropped. He finished sliding down, rolling onto his side befor stroking the blades in a clumsy, sluggish manner, "Di' it.... when.... I were... human." He mumbled it as though that explained everything.

"Ah thee," Sid said slowly. He readjusted his grip on his cane, but no matter what he did his hand felt clammy as long as he held it. He wanted to ask about the collar, or comment on the fact it seemed to be seriously ******** the guy up, but he kept quiet on the off chance that would get him riled again.
Uncomfortable as he was, it seemed wrong just turn and walk away. He idly looked around, took a moment to admire the sun shimmering on the lake... and he still couldn't think of anything to say.

"Y'know... if... I stay on th'grass... fer too long... I'll die. I'll betcha." the octopus mused, rocking ever so slightly as he played with the grass with a tentacle tip, "used t'be able.... t'lay.... fer hours. Days if'n I wanted. No more." He shifted again, licking his lips with a dark, pointed tongue, "Y'don'... got no smokes... do ye?"

Sid patted his pockets just to be sure, but he already knew the packet he used to carry was still laying wherever he'd thrown them. "Nah on meh," he said. "Nah muh... much... reathon ta ehne moh."
He wiped his chin after he said it, then added, "Ah'll gih ya the cahton lah'a."

Billy's mouth moved as he tried to decipher exactly what the man was trying to say, unphased by the spittle, thank goodness. He had his own drooling problems when the seditives got too strong- he wasn't one to judge. "Carton.... oh! Tha's righ'.... tha's righ', tha's righ'..." He nodded eagerly, albeit off kilter. "Yer... goo' man, e'en if yer.... ugly as sin...." this coming from a man who lay in a boneless pile of tentacled arms.

That required another deep breath. It wasn't fair that everyone that made Sid consider violence was too damn pathetic to so much as tap. The thought made him sigh yet again. "Yuh... quite the cahd yehself," he said. It took him a second to come up with something remotely complimentary.

Sid's remark seemed to only amuse the odd man further and he lolled about the ground limply as he laughed as hard as the seditives would allow. "Tha's.... wha' she.... though', I'm sure!" He flopped on his stomach, twisting his head to watch Sid sideways, "Used.... t'be.. a real lady.... killer, me." That brought on another round of giggles.

Sid tried to picture that, even tried squinting to see if he could make out anything of what Billy might have looked like before.
"Ah bahlee yeh," he said once he gave up.

He lay back down, his voice becoming softer, his eyes distant and it was clear he wasn't exaclty there with Sid anymore, "Bet she though' so... bet she did... tha's why... tha's why she chose me."

A man can only shift his leg from one side to the other to cane so many times before he just can't take it anymore. Sid didn't even want to think of walking back at that point. He glanced down at Billy and, careful of the tentacles, he sank down into his chair. After wincing, he slid a little closer to the edge to accommodate his tail. Billy was, he hoped, beyond caring.
When he was certain he didn't care, or wasn't going to say anything, he leaned closer. "Wha d'ya ee..." he titled his head back in frustration before attempting again. "Mean?"
He was probably just imagining he grazed himself with his own teeth with that.

Billy didn't answer at first, his face burried in the grass. Finally, though, he spoke up in a weak, wavering voice, "We're all... gonna die ....here, y'know. There... aint nothin' fer us.... anywhere no more." His outlook had become fairly grimm these last few weeks. He didnt' seem to even notice Sid's relocation, but did seem happy for the company, if even for a little while.

Sid was almost doubled over in the chair to listen. At Billy's statement his fingers tightened on his cane. "Ah kinna... figured."
