children of bodom? death metal? hahahahahaha
from what i've heard, they're an overrated modern take on thrash. while they are better than the american bands that are supposedly thrash - such as trivium (how can they be thrash when they aren't even metal?) - i do not think they are as great as they are made out to be.

and just to clear this up, before anyone brings up the topic of dimmu borgir in relation to my "no keyboards" rule...well i consider them blackened symphonic metal - symphonic metal with lyrics that would fit BM

The best Death Metal band is Origin. They are friggen' crazy.
And how the hell can you say Trivium is not Metal? They are Thrash, and just because YOU don't like them doesn't mean they aren't metal. They definitely have the 80's bay area thrash sound, with some newer influences. There is a difference between Nu and New. Not all new stuff is bad.

Trivium's latest disaster qualifies as thrash apparently. CoB is power metal with harsh vox.

Screamo and metalcore aren't the same. A7X was metalcore for their first two albums and Atreyu still is. Ember to Inferno and Ascendancy were both metalcore albums, but as of the Crusade people say that Trivium is officially thrash.

I think they sound nothing like A7X, because A7X isn't thrash or even thrash inspired. Trivium's first two albums had heavier vocals, but didn't Metallica have heavier? Metallica recorded two hardcore songs, but they are Metal. Trivium's latest album has definite influence of all the 80's Thrash, with some newer stuff fused in, but that doesn't make them less Thrash. Metallica and Slayer slowed it down, but they were still the two best Thrash bands of the time.

regardless of whether a7x and trivium are screamo or metalcore...they still aren't metal. metalcore is not metal. lamb of god, shadows fall, unearth (all of which i like) are not metal. neither are a7x, atreyu, or trivium.
metalcore, like nu-metal, is not a form of heavy metal, but rather an offshoot of rock music. and frankly, i don't consider a7x metalcore even.
now i have not heard "the crusade", but the trivium stuff i've heard was NOT thrash. it was like metalcore, only whinier. NOT metal.

Okay, MegaTherion, shut the ******** up.
Same with you Angel of Metal.
First of all, METALCORE is a sub-genre of metal. Well, depending on the band. Some bands could be considered metal because they're more metal than hardcore, and vice versa.
Now, Angel of Metal, you're completely ******** wrong.
Trivium =/= Thrash.
They are nothing more than ******** metalcore. Just because something sounds like something from the '80s thrash scene, doesn't mean it is ******** Thrash.
Now, anymore talk about things that AREN'T Death metal in this thread, and if I'm in a pissed off enough mood, you will be ******** warned.

sorry shade...didnt mean to piss you off. although i do have a question for you about metalcore - not meant to offend, but a genuine question. you mind if i send you a message about it?
anyway, back to death metal...which band is deepest and darkest in music...this is kind of subjective. how are we to define "deepest"? "darkest" i'm pretty sure we can all agree on, but what exactly is meant by deepest?
