Wherever he was did not seem like Vermilion City at all. The last thing that Demetri remembered was... Well, heading out of the port on Lapras. It wasn't that far of a surf to where he was going, so why had he fallen asleep? What's more, why did he not feel the hard shell under him, but instead, a soft bed? Maybe he had just dreamt it. But it had seemed real. It had to be. He convinced himself of such. His Lapras was a little unreliable, though. Maybe he had somehow slipped into the water and some sailor had rescued him. That would make sense. With any luck, Lapras had followed the sailor's boat. His eyes finally flew open again, getting a second good look at the ceiling above his head.
But when Dem's head moved up in order to take a glance around the room, his head just fell back on the pillow. It took a few moments, but he finally moved his hand to clutch the back of his head. For some reason, he was in incredible pain. Moving around to examine the source of the pain, his hand found the problem. There was a huge bump on the back of his head. That explained how he was knocked out. He must have lost his balance on the Pokemon's back, and hit his head on the shell. There was a lot of guessing, but it was all he had to occupy himself. There was the chance that he had just bumped his head while they were going under a bridge. Actually, that was more likely than anything else. The smallest of laughs escaped him.
The bed was propped up against the wall, so he used that to his advantage. The second time he tried to get up, the same thing happened. He groaned loudly, unsure if anyone was in the room with him. It didn't really matter. He could find that out once his head stopped spinning. The third time was a little more successful, though it was still a failure. His body moved the opposite way so he could slide up the wall. But in the process, the large bump hit the hard wall. After the third time, he stopped. Maybe the person who had brought him there would come soon, so that he could thank them for saving him.

The door opened slightly and closed again quickly. "Yes, sir, he seems to be awake now."
"Good, now get out of my way."
The guard was shoved roughly out of the way as the man in the labcoat pushed quickly through the door. His demeanor seemed to shift seemlessly, though abruptly as he faced the young boy on the cot.
"Hello, my boy. I'm glad to see you're awake. How are you feeling?" His smile was disarming, his manner friendly and calm as he crossed the room to speak with the room's occupant.

Demetri could only catch a glimpse of the guard who had accompanied the man in the labcoat before he left. His head was still on the pillow, as he knew if he tried to get up, he would most likely just fall back down before the man came back. But at that moment he arrived, Dem placed his arm on the soft cot he was laying on, trying to use it as leverage. It would be better to properly greet the man. It seemed strange to just lie in bed as the man who had most likely saved him from drowning just walked through.
Even when he was able to sit up, his back was against the wall and his hand held his head in order to keep the pain from seeping into his skull again. But even with all this, he managed to smile back kindly at the person who had entered. "Not so good. I've got a bump on the back of my head that's most likely making it twice as large as normal." It was a bad joke, of course, but he couldn't muster anything better. "Are you a doctor or a scientist or something?" He looked as though he would be one. Had Demetri actually had the sense to look him over, he might have noticed something strange about Dr. Hakan.

Chuckling softly, the doctor took a seat on the cot next to Demetri. "Yes, I am a doctor, as a matter of fact. My name is Dr. Carl Hakan. Now, let's take a look at that bump of yours."
Dr. Hakan was careful as he gently parted the boy's hair to inspect his head wound. "Well, I'm glad to inform you that the bump is actually looking better today. Would you believe it was nearly twice this size when they brought you in?" He chuckled softly, letting the boy's hair fall back as he took his seat on the edge of the cot once more.
"Now that you're back with us, my boy, how about you tell me a little about yourself? Your name? Perhaps where you're from?"

Demetri moved his hand so that the doctor would be able to look at the bump. It had felt huge when he'd placed his hand on it, but at least it seemed to be smaller than it was before. It didn't take too much to pretend to be a doctor -just a labcoat, really- and since Dem wasn't about to go and ask for his degree, the only thing it took for him to believe the man was that he said so. "Somehow, I can." Had he been awake when it had first gotten there, it most likely would have felt like someone threw a brick at his head.
A few moments passed before he was able to shake the feeling of falling over again. He had to stay up at least long enough to get the Doctor the information he needed. How he'd managed to get to a hospital -or wherever he worked- completely escaped him. "My name is Demetri... Demetri Roland. My family lives near Olivine City, but I usually stay in or close to Cerulean." Had another sharp pain from his head not stopped him, then Demetri would have most likely told Dr. Hakan his entire life story.

Dr. Hakan nodded, taking this in carefully. "I see. Well, it's nice to meet you, Demetri. Though I wish we could have met under better circumstances." He chuckled again softly, then noted the boy's discomfort. Frowning, he asked, "It still hurts, does it? Well, let me call the pharmacy. I'll have them deliver a mild painkiller for that headache of yours."
Moving to a previously unnoticed intercom on the wall, Dr. Hakan pressed a button and the speaker clicked quietly. "This is Dr. Hakan. The patient's name is Demetri Roland. While Demetri still sustains a slight bump on the head, I see no other signs of head trauma and the boy should be fine after a little rest. I would like an order delivered to the pharmacy for a mild painkiller for his headache. Something like a couple aspirin or the equivalent will work well. Also, send down something to help him sleep." He said the last line a little more quietly. The person on the other side of the intercom would know exactly what he meant.
"Yes, doctor. I'll call the pharmacy right away."
Dr. Hakan nodded once, stepping away from the intercom. "If you ever need anything," he said to Demetri, "just press this button and ask for it. We'll take care of anything you need." He took a seat on the cot once more, looking concerned. "Are you up to one more question, my boy? Do you have any idea how you could have washed up on our beach, unconscious and alone?" He frowned, watching and waiting for Demetri's reply. The boy's appearance on the beach had been rather surprising for all at CRONUS and the doctor honestly wanted to know how such a young boy could have wound up all alone in the middle of the ocean.

Demetri waited until the pain subsided again to reply. Of course Lapras's shell had been extremely hard, but how had bumping his head merely one time caused such a bad bump? "The same goes for me on both accounts, Doc." He laughed awkwardly, scratching the back of his head. Of course, when he did so, he made sure to avoid the annoying pain. "And thank you. It should go away soon, I hope. In any event, my head's likely to get harder than it was before." His hand tapped away from the bump. Dem half expected to hear a hollow noise come out.
At first, he had to blink a few times in order to get his eyes to focus on the intercom. Funny, I didn't see that before. It must have been there, though. It seemed he was too focused on the person in front of him than the room around him. "Hmm?" Dr. Hakan said something at the end of his little intercom chat with the person on the other line -a nurse or possibly another doctor, he guessed- and Demetri thought that it might have been aimed at him, but he had not heard it.
Demetri nodded, putting the tiny intercom in the back of his mind so that if anything happened, he knew where to go. But he didn't plan to be there long, so it most likely wouldn't be necessary. "I'll make sure not to forget it." He took one last look at the messaging device before finally looking back at the doctor. "Yes. ...To tell you the truth, I have absolutely no idea how it happened. I can guess from what I remember, but there's no way for me to see the difference between what I dreamt and what I really went through. I can tell you that I remember setting off from the port in Cerulean City on my Lap-" Time out. ALONE? That was definitely not good. Very, very not good. Thinking that it may have returned to its Pokeball, Demetri went straight for his belt, to find not even one of his Pokemon resting there, as they usually were. In a slight panic, Demetri looked up at the Doctor, hoping he had an answer for his silent question.

The panicked grasping at his belt told the whole story. Shaking his head sadly, Dr. Hakan frowned. "I see. Then you're a trainer, Demetri? Tell me about your Pokemon. If we know a bit more, then we can send out search parties. I promise, we'll do all we can to find your lost Pokemon."
Dr. Hakan meant every word, though maybe not how the poor boy would have liked him to mean. If this boy had some rare Pokemon, then that would be all the more rare test subjects for the experiments. It was getting harder and harder to find good subjects, at least of the Pokemon variety. It seemed the human ones were just falling into their laps now, like this boy. He'd heard that another boy had stowed away in a supply shipment that was unloaded at the docks. They'd had to chase him down, apparently, as well as a rogue Haunter.

There was nothing he could do now. Panicking would probably only make things worse for him. Demetri wanted more than anything to be on one of those search parties to help them find the poor things. His state of panic had made him feel dizzy again, and his back pushed back against the wall. He was trying his hardest not to just lie down. They had to find the water Pokemon, and he was determined to help however possible. "Well, there's my Lapras, which I was riding, my Starmie, Clamperl, and Mantine. Those are the four I had with me..." His Starmie had just evolved, as well. They hadn't had much bonding time, and after this, it was unlikely that it would trust him much anymore, if at all.
The boy had no idea that he was more likely condemning his Pokemon than helping them out. Dr. Hakan seemed trustworthy enough to help out his Pokemon, and he was not going to turn his back on them. The moment he stopped feeling the pain in his head, whether he was fully recovered or not, Demetri would ask to join the search for them. If they had not been found already, that is. "I hope they're safe..." He thought aloud. And for the moment, they were most likely more safe outside the island.

Dr. Hakan sighed, patting the boy's shoulder sympathetically. "I promise, son. If your Pokemon are on the island, we'll find them."
He was about to say more when there was a soft knock on the door. Dr. Hakan walked across the room, meeting the nurse that opened the door and taking the tray from her. The door clicked softly as she left and the doctor returned to the cot with a cup of water and two small pills. "Aspirin, for your headache. Go ahead and take them."
Also on the tray was a small syringe filled with clear liquid. "I know this ordeal has been a lot to deal with and you're very worried about your Pokemon, but you need to rest. You've been through a lot and your body is exhausted." While speaking, he expertly flicked the syringe, ridding it of any air bubbles before removing the cap. "I thought you could use something to help you relax. You should sleep soundly through the night," he assured Demetri, quickly injecting the solution into the boy's arm and withdrawing the needle in seconds. He seemed quite used to this routine and it was almost automatic by now. The boy probably had hardly felt a thing.

Demetri returned the man's sigh. "All right... If we're on an island, then it shouldn't be that hard to find them." He stayed positive until... Until the fact that he was on an island hit him. Before that moment, he's just assumed he was in a hospital near a beach or something. But an island? Somehow he'd managed to wash up on an island, of all places. And it didn't seem like the one he was headed for. "I'm on an island?"
His hands went for the aspirin greedily, wanting to get rid of the pain so that he could think straight again. "Thank you for everything." For a moment, he couldn't feel anything being helped by the aspirin. But it would come sooner or later, so he waited. In the meantime, there was the shot to occupy him. "You make my injuries sound worse than they are." He didn't want to really admit that he was feeling exhausted, even though he had just woken up. The last time he'd had a shot had been when he went to the Pokemon Center, but that was because his Pokemon had to get vaccinated. Some of them were unwilling, so he went first to show them it didn't hurt. "If you say so." There was no objection to the shot, nor did Demetri wince when it entered his arm. That was most likely because he saw it pierce his skin, but he didn't feel it. Dr. Hakan seemed professional, so that was good. In a few moments, he started feeling just a little more tired. Then just a little more, and a little more. His eyelids struggled to stay up as the boy started falling asleep while he was sitting.

Dr. Hakan chuckled softly as he capped the needle and dropped it into his pocket to dispose of later. "Just think of it as being cautious then. You were found on the beach and we can't be sure exactly how long you were exposed to the elements. We just want to help you build up your strength again and make sure you're healthy before we let you go running about on the ocean again." He smirked, patting Demetri's shoulder gently.
"For now, I'd suggest you get some rest. I'll leave you alone and ask someone to dim the lights in here to help your headache. Remember, if you need anything, just use the intercom." He stood and crossed the room quickly to the door. The nurse was waiting outside and took the syringe from him before disappearing down the hall. "Meanwhile, I'll get those search parties organized and out on the island as soon as possible." Without another word, he slipped out of the room, the door shutting behind him with a soft click as it locked automatically. A slight grin crossed the good doctor's face as he headed down the hall, ready to take care of his next patient.

The moments after the doctor injected him to when he closed the door were a complete blur to Demetri. But from what he could hear, there was a strange hint in Dr. Hakan's words and voice that would have sent chills down his spine had he been fully aware of his surroundings. Had he just referred to him as though he were some sort of animal? The thought faded away quickly. It seemed normal enough for a doctor to say, but combined with the chuckling and his tone, it made the non-drowsy part of Dem's brain think. Because that part was incredibly minor compared to the areas where he was exhausted, the smaller thoughts in his mind were merely pushed aside.
"Thank you... Again..." It was barely above a mumble, as his vision was fading completely. His ears heard the click of the door. It didn't register in the sleepy boy's thoughts, but the tiny part of his mind was screaming madly. He could worry about it later, he decided. Maybe it was just that the doctor didn't want him wandering off while half-asleep. Demetri had never been one to sleepwalk, but there was always a small chance he would sooner or later. Finally, after his systems began slowing down, they completely halted. The ones he needed to survive stayed alert, but his head and the rest of his body were able to relax. Until that moment, he was sitting up. But once his muscles stopped holding him up, Dem fell limp with his head against the pillow.
