im serious its the actual genre that Dimmu is, but people often just say its black metal, but its really a sub-genre of black metal which explains its different sound

Malica There's also symphonic black metal, which in paticular i don't like. too much electronic sounds in it I've always considered Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth to be symphonic black metal, given the more symphonic sound mixed with some synths, on ocassaion.

All these different genres. I just think persons combine adjectives to create a new "genre". Such as, I would explain to someone that Dimmu Borgir would be a stylised symphonic death metal. I say this because they use a symphony and they sound like a death metal singer and they play metal.
And I only hear few other bands use symphonies. But far too few to consider it a genre in their own right.
But I have had persons tell me that Enthrone Darkness Triumphant was a gothic metal album.....Huh?
What makes it gothic? Do Shagarth speak ov architecture from many years ago <12th Century> or ov Germanic tribes?
He sings to the Devil, casts hymns for Vempyres, and beats Daemon~based lyrics through your ears. Maybe I create a genre.
It will be called Devil Metal. The lyrics are about Master Saytain, and so it is Devil Metal.
But Symphonic Black Metal would be the closest collection ov adjectives I could blend together to structure their genre.

Shagrath is a very pretty man, But I really dislike Dimmu's music. Their old stuff was alright but Death Cult Armmagedon was a bit...Shitty. The song Progenies of the Great Apocalypse reminds me of something from a band video games...I do like Puritania though. I know they're trying to evolve, But some of us like good old Black Metal the way it used to be, Hail to our Fathers!!! m/

Dimmuborgir is NOT black metal. Well, not any more, at least. Their first two albums were black metal. Since then they have been... gothic metal, I think.
Cradle of Filth has NEVER been black metal, they've been gothic all through; Except for a few early demos, which were death metal.
Do correct me if I'm wrong though.

They can black metal turned to death metal turned to love metal. But they all still sing to the devil, so Devil Metal remains.
About Death Cult Armageddon....I am glad that I am not alone in saying it was horribly weak.

Death Cult Armageddon wasn't their best, but still a good album. Depends on how you look at it and what kind of genre people think it's in, (whcih seems to be bm but its not)

A lot of people don't like them anymore becasue they are evolving and have fame now. Is it really so bad that the band is making money? Isn't that a good thing? Or would you rather see a good band make 2 albums then never be heard of again?

The idea of Black Metal is that it was never made for the masses, What Dimmu and also Satyricon have done is change their sound in order to obtain popularity...Defying the whole idea of Black Metal. I make music for pleasure, Not for profit...Dimmu's Stormblast album was reasonable...I liked that. But they're clearly selling out. I still respect their talent but not what they're doing. As for Cradle, I think they may be the first band to ever sucessfuly combine Black and Gothic. By that I mean they're popular, Not that the music is True to it's roots. There's nothing wrong with bands trying to get money, But Black Metal should never touch the mainstream society.

Yes I think that is an appropriate term for them, symphonic death metal. DCA was very symphonic and a bit gothier sounding but I wouldn't call them gothic metal. I wouldn't really call them black metal either.
