Rolling her eyes, Binti deliberately, and maybe a bit vindictively, dragged her claws down the surface of the rock again, smiling slightly at the loud screeching noise they made before turning around to face him. "Hmmph. Why anyone would want to spend their entire life being taken care of by others is beyond me..." she muttered, still glaring at him somewhat balefully, deciding that she quite disliked his utter impassivity. It's something I can admire though...unfortunately. she admitted, if only to herself. Forcing her facial expression into a similarly blank one, she smiled blandly. "Anyway, I'm not about to fall for those limpid eyes...I had enough sisters, and hell, I've got a pair of eyes well-suited to that kind of thing myself...however, I did say I'd help teach you to hunt, so keep up, and maybe you'll learn something..." she said, turning sharply on her heels and heading off into the tall grass, tail flicking back and forth almost lazily.

Wiiiiiiiince. His ear ticks painfully at the noise, the fur on the back of his neck bristling. Oooh, that really got to him, didn't it? Binti turns just in time to catch the awkward expression of pain on his face before he quickly melts it into a smoother one.
"Of course, miss Binti," he says in a sing-song voice, a little mockigly but mostly in play. And he begins to follow, if you want to call it that. He is perhaps the least subtle thing on the savannah, his head held high and turning inquisitively around like a tourist enjoying the view. His pawsteps are graceful but heavy, ears erect but not focused. He's... definately not a hunter.

Binti's ears swivelled back and forth. I don't think I've ever heard a lion with such a heavy step... she thought to herself, whirling on him and swatting at his nose with a swift forepaw. "Didn't anyone ever teach you how to WALK?" she asked, wondering how he'd survived as long as he HAD. "And you ALWAYS need to have your ears and nose working along with your eyes to tell you where prey...or even enemies and predators, are in relation to you." she continued, hardly able to believe that no one had taught him any better concerning how one went about hunting.

His nose wrinkles a little, eyelashes fluttering. Her reprimand startled him a little. He'd never been yelled at for such a thing!
"Alright, miss Binti." That little name seemed to fit her in a teasing way, and he takes a deep breath and attempts to walk again. It isn't as heavy, definately, but he's definately no lioness. "If you promise to teach me, I will be a most devoted student. <3" Well, at least he's a little more comfortable with her, walking circles around her with light, jaunty steps--- quiet, but very funny to look at. He looks more like a gazelle than a lion!

Suddenly, it's Binti's turn to stare at Essien impassively. However, it's not easy to do so, by any stretch, since there's laughter lurking behind her impassive gaze. "That's better...but you look silly!" You need to get low to the ground, like THIS..." she said, slinking around him, belly inches from the ground, her body moving sinuously, and her paws making nary a sound on the hard-packed dirt.

He pauses in his prancing to stare at her, head tilted thoughtfully. That was familiar... the young lionesses of his former pride learned that stance early and used it mercilessly to creep up on him. He takes a small step back out of habit.
"Like... this?" And he crouches slowly, shifting around until he gets himself into a decent mimicry of her position. This wasn't so hard! "You should watch out, miss Binti," he says with a bright smile, slinking around her with shining, predatory eyes. "The only prey I see here to practice on is you."

Binti threw back her head and laughed uproariously, and slinked so that she was facing his tail, turning her head to look over one beige, patterned shoulder arrogantly. "You're welcome to try...novice." she said, flicking the tip of her tail against his nose playfully before stalking off. "Now, use that method of movement, and lets see if we can't find a rabbit or something for you to try out your new stalking skills on..."

He just smiles good-naturedly, regardless of her laughter. It didn't seem to phase him at all, as soon he's stalking after her like a puppy dog. Though he stays low to the ground in a hunting walk, his tail flips happily behind him. It was so nice to be around someone else again! But, wait--
"... you ... want me to actually hunt something?"

She turned to look at him over her shoulder, her eyes cold...already in "hunting mode". Blinking, she stared at him for a moment. "Of course you're going to try hunting something. I *told* you I was going to teach you how to hunt, didn't I?" she retorted, looking surprised that he'd even had to ask such a silly question.

His brow furrows, an ear flicking back, making him look a little confused. "But... " he begins, but doesn't bother to finish. She looked serious! There would be no weaselling out of this one! With a reserved little sigh, he paws up beside her, crouching down with a small pout.
"Alright then. Let's."

Binti nodded, turning forward again, her head held low, and her eyes flicking to and fro as she padded forward again, trusting Essien to keep up. She froze, her ears pricked forwards, and leaned over to Essien to whisper quietly in his ear, barely audible. "I hear something small moving through the grass just ahead and slightly to the right...think you're up to it?" she asked, eyeing him expectantly.

His ear twitches towards the sound. Yes... yes, there it is! There was something there, alright. He gives her an anxious look, and small nod before stalking foreward a little.
But wait... he doesn't know anything beyond the walk. So of course he goes about it his own way: by stalking it until he was closer, and then.... bounding straight at the poor thing, flushing it out and causing it to bolt. He looks a little disappointed as he turns back to Binti. "It got away from me." Apparently...

Binti sighed, and looked tempted to hide her face in the dirt. "you don't RUN AT THEM...that gives them fair warning to get away, silly!" she exclaimed, shaking her head as if in disgust. "Let me put it to you this way...if someone was wanting to eat you, do you think they'd succeed if they approached you like that?" she asked.

"Well... no one has ever wanted to eat me," he replies slowly, with a smile. He sits down and watches her, tail curling at his haunches. "I was sure I'd be faster... I didn't know prey could be so fast." It was obvious he only had a vague idea how hunting was done. He had seen it from afar, the lionesses working as a well-oiled machine. But they had run, hadn't they?
"How else would you do it?"

Binti smiled...and it wasn't a friendly smile. "Tell ya what...why don't you just wait here, and I'll show you. Pretend you're an antelope for a moment, ok?" she said, slinking off into the tall grass, disappearing completely from view.
