"Almost?" The foal's head leaned to one side, imagining. "That doesn't sound fun either." If only because he couldn't particularly fly, and his almost-dive was sure to turn into belly-flop round two. He shuffled the idea away for later though... for some day when he could fly, and was bored enough to try it.
"Not me," Kalani murmured, as though he hadn't already made himself plenty clear. "Yeah..." It was a thoughtful, trailing confession he finished with a shake of his head.
No, they certainly did not stand still. At least, not this one - he crept closer at the questioning.
Then his expression wilted a little. "Only if crawling out of the lake after I jumped in counts..." Really, his desire to make a return trip after that experience had been minimal. He supposed he could make another attempt though. Yei wasn't making it sound like a bad idea, and he was always game for a new experience. Or semi new, in this case.
"Is it fun?" he queried at last, ears rolling forward.

"Oh! Of course it's fun!" Yei positively beamed at the question and released a whicker. Of all her hobbies, swimming was one of those she favoured most after herbalism. There was nothing like the feel of cool water against overheated fur to relax the muscles and soothe sore limbs - more to the point, it was a great deal of fun to have water fights too!
"There is a great deal of potential in swimming - you can have races, water fights..." She gave a shake of her mane and approached the foal, "Then you can dive under for tiny amounts of time to find pretty, yet rare flowers." She canted her head to the side and pursed her lips. It was during this time that she looked the young colt up and down as thought to assess whether or not he was capable of what else she was about to mention.
"Then of course, there is fishing." She added at last.

She almost sounded convincing, but Kalani cast another skeptical glance in her direction. "What'm I gonna do with flowers? Do they taste good?" They almost sounded like the treats Kali spoke of... Apples and the like - things he didn't often have the opportunity to enjoy. Rare, as it were. If these flowers were like that, then maybe he could be bothered to 'dive' for them.
He wasn't too sure about racing or fighting though... Yei was an awful lot bigger than he was.
"Fishing?" The foal's nose wrinkled involuntarily. "What do you want fish for?" Those couldn't possibly taste good, he was sure. He had seen one on only a few occasions, but they hadn't smelled pleasant... And they were slimy too! Besides, they were alive. As a rule, Kalani didn't eat things that moved.
"I dunno," he started, sounding contemplative. "I guess I could try... If you're sure it's fun. Besides." Lifting his head proudly, his posture inflated a little. "'Lani and Hototo can't swim, I don't think. It couldn't hurt to learn how before they do!" This prospect seemed to inspire him, and he danced briefly in place, his little hooves shuffling excitedly.

Ah, there was nothing like sibling rivalry to encourage a child to do new things. The newly felt anticipation within the foal was somewhat infectious and with a delighted smile the mare swung round and began to drift towards the direction of the lake. This wasn't exactly difficult to do, given that all she had to do was follow the flow of the water and therefore she could afford to talk a little more.
"Well fishing is good for working on your speed and strength." She explained, her ears swivelled round at each sound that brushed by. "It also encourages patience. You don't eat the fish, simply catch them and then release them again." She glanced round and then released a chuckle, how was she supposed to confess that she'd never tried eating the flowers before?
"As for the flowers, they certainly look pretty...perhaps you could gather some as a gift for your mother at some point. If she was angry, she will be certain to forgive you when she sees them!"

Without giving it any thought (or even stopping to think maybe he shouldn't have), Kalani turned and followed as the mare set off ahead of him... Likely in a somewhat less direct fashion. His path was a wayward one, weaving to and fro behind and alongside her; a testament to his fleeting whim and youthful energy.
"Glad I'm not a fish," he confessed, distaste lingering in his expression. "D'ya think they think about things like that? 'I want to be a bird,' or 'I wonder what it's like out there'..." The foal trailed off as he danced after a floating butterfly, drifting back to Yei only once it had settled on his nose, and flew off again. He gave a ticklish snort, tossed his head, then pranced his way back to his invisible path.
"How do you catch 'em, anyway?" Though it was likely his attention span needing work, rather than his patience, getting stronger and faster sounded fairly appealing... But he wasn't sure how to go about it.
Dodging his mother's wrath sounded appealing too, even if he didn't plan on being on the receiving end. Kalani had a dilemma though. If he brought them back, she'd know he was wandering for sure, and that was troublesome. Maybe he could hide them away for later, and bring them out if, some day, he was caught... "You think so?" They must have been really pretty. He still wanted to know how they tasted though.

"Well, you could always ask them I suppose." Yei had always wondered that herself and she was an adult. It was funny, funny how foals had the innate ability to voice some of an adult's innermost questions without risk of being embarrassed. She was almost envious, but the thought of him attempting to converse with the fish made her giggle - if anything he would find himself in the middle of a water fight as opposed to deep conversation.
"I'll show you how to catch them when we get there," She promised, continuing to answer his questions as she weaved round hidden pot holes and continued to follow the streams across the clearing and towards the lake in the distance. "It is a fine art, it will take a great deal of practice to master this game - and I wonder..." She glanced round at his drifting form and grinned.
"I wonder how long you can stand still for." She mused as she spotted the lake and gave a whicker. "Race you!"
