weja The Iconoclast KlarIt's not that Klar is bad at what she does; it's that her style has not improved or progressed or offered anything new in the last few years I've been aware of her work. The sheer amount of fan-slobber and imitation directed at her possibly explains why she comes off as a fine, fine b***h. I don't disagree with any of that. Klar is good at doing exactly what Klar does. I don't think any of her work is bad, but this isn't by default about bad art, decent art can be overrated, too. It still strikes me as overrated.

Zahir It's an easy target, but I have to say Thomas Kincade, so-called "painter of light". Hack hack hack hack hack. scream Holy s**t, that guy. I went to one of his gallery shops once. I was very embarassed by how my friend and her mother were fawning over the guy's s**t. They were like OH MY GOD, THIS MAN'S ART IS SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I hated how he sold prints of obviously unfinished work for 2,000 dollars, and I hated how people would just suck it right down.

Klar is good at doing exactly what Klar does. I don't think any of her work is bad, but this isn't by default about bad art, decent art can be overrated, too. It still strikes me as overrated.

weja humm, istill dont agree. theres just LOTS of people outthere howlike cutegayboys allover eachother, and evenmoreso when theyre drawnwell. idont really hear toomany people saying shes THE BEST ARTIST EVER or anything like that, yanno? I respect that you like Klar's work, but don't understand how anything you're saying makes my opinion incorrect. I know there's lots of people who like cute gay (furry) boys, but how does that make it illogical for me to think it is overrated? Overrated does not intrinsically equal "terrible", I don't understand why you seem to think I am saying that. I hear of and see a lot of people who really like her (especially judging by how much her work is imitated), though I don't think I've heard anyone say she's the "best artist ever", either. I'm not saying "Hey, you should think she's overrated, too" at all, I hope you know that ; 3; I just find that a lot of reasons you posit for her work not being overrated are reasons why I think it is, if that makes sense.

Oh, I see what you're saying now. I based my thoughts off of DeviantART, comment count and fanart and that kind of stuff. But yeah, it's hard for something to be overrated if people don't play it up.

It's a shame you think that, but I guess it's true in a way, alot of his stuff is bandied about as bad reproductions and fun prints of pop art. Personally, I always saw him as a bit of a dickhead, the very embodiment of pretention. Alot of conceptual art pisses me off. There are some amazing examples and then there is a whole lot of lazy, wholly unartistic dirge. Of course it's a highly subjective genre by the very nature of it, but arghh! It's so annoying!

He started off with his feet planted firmly in the commercial realm, and that influence stayed strong. That said, yeah. Yeah, he did do something very significant, but his work is overrated because he's the guy hip, wannabe art fags name when they want to sound pretentious and holier-than-thou.

i know from the guy who knows one of JV's old girlfriends that he spend alot of time thinking goth kids are lame. Zahir It's an easy target, but I have to say Thomas Kincade, so-called "painter of light". Hack hack hack hack hack. scream BAHHHHH!!!!!!!

I'm not a fan of her attitude. I think she is a huge b***h. oh well. I dont actually know her...but there's something to be said for someone who comes across as a huge b***h. As for my contribution, i have to say i'm not a fan of Celesse's artwork. I dont really find anything that interesting about her cute anime styled work. Even when the chracters she draws aren't cute, or supposed to be darker, etc...they always sort of turn out that way. There's no edge to her stuff.

Um I think that Mike Parr is overrated, but I think that maybe I just hate the way he goes about things, like a performance piece that in my opinion was just plain rude and uncalled for- it didn't 'challenge' or position any new fresh ideas/create any intelligent concepts, it was just gross. I think the artists that don't put any thought into their work are kind of overrated. People don't like their art for any particular reason as a lot of it is just thoughtless junk; they just go along with it because it’s post-modern. Don't get me wrong I like a lot of post-modern art, but I do think that a lot of it is junk for the sake of a dada anti art statements (that has already been done so its not anything "new") that are meaningless and just done to see how far people will let them go.
And the guy who done the blasphemous 'piss Christ' piece (forget artists name), I think stuff like that is overrated because I think it is simply done to offend. I mean stuff that offends is ok but not if that’s the sole reason behind its creation. But I could be wrong about this particular piece,I admit I haven't done much research into this one- it's just my general impression.
