Alida followed his example and finished her coffee and cookie, before gathering up her notebook and nodding to him. Her eyes were shining with an excitement that wasn't usually there for the shy demon.

She was ready to go, and as they walked out the door, she bit her lip gently. Then, she touched Aru's hand gently, silently asking permission to hold hands. She wasn't quite sure where the urge came from; she couldn't remember being forward like this in a very long time, not since she was a child.

At the touch of Alida's hand Aru's face turned the same sed of red as his highlights, and turned his head fast to try and hide it. He spread his fingers open and pushed his palm agianst her own, as if giving her the go ahead, before he cleared his throat.
"Uh.. The poetry club is five blocks down. It wont take too long to get there." He said with a little bit of a squeek in his voice. He then began to lead her.

Alida didn't catch sight of Aru's blush, she was too busy averting her own face to hide her pink cheeks. But a happy smile showed, and she closed her fingers gently, completing the silent conversation.

As they walked, she alternated between looking ahead for a sign of the shop and glancing sideways at Aru. He is cute. But so are Zuko and Bane, and I don't hold their hands, she thought. She'd held hands with Nikoli when they were kids, so maybe...

Then they were at the club, and Alida stopped her analyzing. She was going to hear people recite poetry! Things they'd written, parts of their very own selves shown to the world! She looked about excitedly, and noticed the stage.

That's where they would read... and... Aru had said she should have someone read her poem, too. Alida quailed a bit, biting the edge of her lip, but she didn't want to look like a coward. She held onto his hand a bit tighter, drawing a bit of nerve from the contact.

Arukoru looked around the poetry club with a smirk on his face, before he looked over to Alida.
"Well, here we are.." He said softly, trying to sound as seductive, charming, and manly as he possibly could. It didn't work so well though. He just sounded a little raspy.

"I'm sure I could get someone to read one of your poems for you.. Or I could. If you would like?"

((Argh, sorry it took me to reply. D: I went utterly BRAIN DEAD for a while. ))

Alida didn't respond at first, she was too busy trying to hide behind Aru while at the same time holding his hand tightly and looking around the club with wide eyes.

Then, realizing he'd spoken, she blinked and looked over at him, processing what he'd said. Oh, yes, she silently thanked him for offering. She'd much rather have him read it than some complete stranger. He'd already said he liked it. So, she nodded her agreement with a grateful look, and let go somewhat with her deathgrip on his hand.

(( Ack, sorry, I got out of the habit of checking. sweatdrop And it's okay. I get that way sometimes, too. ))

Aru couldn't stop smiling at Alida. He found her shyness completely adorable and she was a good with words too, even if she was a mute. He gave her hand a gentle squeeze and nodded, before he looked over at the counter where the commers ordered coffee.
"The man who announces the artists is over there. Wait here and I'll go tell him that we'd like to read your poem." he said, before much to his reluctance let go of her hand and walked over to the counter.

After a few words with the announcer, who was sitting at a chair, Arukoru returned and set his hand on the small of Alida's back.
"He said you'll be up in two recitings. I'll read it and you can stay on stage, I'll tell them you wrote it so you'll get full credit." he explained, hoping she'd oblidge to being on stage with him.

Oh, dear. Apparently she was still supposed to go up with him. She felt her chest tighten some, but she nodded anyway. Aru would be there, so it wasn't like they'd all be watching her.

And she liked the feel of his hand on her back. No one had ever done that before. It felt... secure, somehow. She began to get a grip on her nervousness, and while unconsciously leaning in just a bit towards Aru, Alida took a few deep breaths, calming her heartbeat a little and trying to reason with her fears. There wasn't any real reason for her to be scared. A little bit of nervousness was natural. And Aru would be doing the actual reading. If she wanted to get published someday, she'd have to get used to people seeing her poetry and stories.

It worked, a little.

Aru had contented himself to keep his hand on Alida's back as he watched the next two artists go up and recite their poems. One about death and blood and unending lonliness, and the other about how cream cheese begals contained the power to overthrow the government that was surpressing mankind as a whole. Typical poetry for coffee junkies. They werent talented like Alida was.

The time came and the announcer walked up to the stage holding a steaming cup of coffee, and he held the speaker up to his lips.
"Alright my lovlies, next we have a newcommer to our chillin cup. Everyone please give a snap for Alida and her assistant Arukoru!" and as the man had signaled, snaps filled the room. Aru looked over to Alida's face, before he brushed a strand of hair behind his ear.
"You ready?" He asked, before he gently began to lead her up onto the stage.

Truthfully, Alida shook her head slightly, but she let herself be led to the stairs. She was nibbling on the inside of her lip, and as she turned around on the stage to see all the people waiting expectantly, she had to let her eyes drop down to the edge of the platform.

No. No, I won't be this way. It's a good poem. I can be proud of it! she scolded herself, and forced her head to come up, then looked sideways at Aru with a shaky little smile.

Arukoru helped Alida sit down in the stool supplied in front of the microphone, before moving the mic stand in front of him. He gently took the peice of paper that she had her poem on, before he looked out to the crowd and smirked.
"Hello everybody, tonight I'll be reading you the poem of my friend Alida here. She can't read it because she's taken a vow of silence untill they impeech George Bush." Arukoru joked, and the crowd laughed. Aru didn't see the point in making Alida's disability known, especially when he had seen first hand the patronizing looks she would get from watching his 'brother' Oliver.

Never the less, Oliver adjusted the microphone and cleared his throat, before he began to read the paper soulfully.
"Fragile world cherished in Goddess’ heart,
life and Her eldritch song are never apart.
Father Time slumbers, dreaming the land,
until the death of Her world is at hand~" Arukoru kept reading tentivly, careful not to mess up any of the lines in Alida's work of art, when he was finished, Aru released the mic and closed the book to show that he was finished.

The crowd erupted in finger snaps, the audiances way of showing apreciation. Arukoru turned and looked to Alida, before he whispered gently towards her.
"Take a bow, I think they liked it."

Alida had laughed at the joke as well, covering her mouth with her fingertips. It had certainly lightened her mood, if that was its purpose.

As the poem was read, she closed her eyes, listening to it. It sounded different when Aru read it than when it was said in her mind... she liked it, she decided. As it neared the middle, the butterflies in her stomach seemed to have settled down, and she grew curious as to what people were thinking about it.

Her eyes cracked open and she watched, glancing around at several different faces. They didn't seem bored or contemptuous...

The poem ended, the snapping began, and Aru encouraged her to stand up and bow. So, with a small smile marred slightly by the way it was caught up between her teeth, Alida curtsied gracefully, going back to stand next to Aru when she finished.

This hadn't been so bad, and Aru had read it wonderfully. She smiled up at him and gently took his hand.

"See? They loved you." Aru said as he gave a reassuring squeeze, and then lead her down off the stage. He brought her over to a table as the announcer went to welcome the next poet onto stage. Once they got to the table Aru pulled a chair out for Alida, before he looked to the counter.
"Would you like anything to eat or drink?"

Alida returned the squeeze. He was right, they had seemed to enjoy it. She felt a shy smile cross her face again, erasing the nervous expression. Now that it was all over and done with, there was almost a euphoric sense of lightness washing over her.

At his suggestion, she blinked, coming out of her reverie, and nodded, thinking that something to drink would do her good. She started to sign that she would like a drink, then remembered that she didn't know if he knew sign language or not. So she opened her book and wrote it down instead.
