That's what I told Bree (Miako). Some of it is real BS, and I don't particularly like her, though like Bree, I don't have a strong opinion for or against her. =3

I think, like anyone, you have to take her writing with a grain of salt. Most of the writings I have read that trash her, take her completely out of context and make a lot of assumptions about what she "means." I agree that sometimes she has an oversimplistic explantion for a lot of things, but while I was reading it, I didn't take her version to be The Word (because that doesn't really exist). I think that a lot gets lost because she is quite often trying to be an introduction for younger people. And maybe she's not always so great at it. But I don't think that it's as intentional or evil as a lot of people writing anti-Silver articles make it appear. I also did not get the feeling that SHE thought that her books should be the end-all of a person's learning.

I have read four of her books and I personally love them. I even suggest them to people just starting out. I think her books are inspiring. I do like Scott Cunningham's books as well, but his are more informative and lack the personality that hers have. She writes in a way that she hopes teens and people just learning about the craft can understand and relate to.
Who cares if she is a little hard on Christianity, I am even harder. I have yet to meet a Christian that actually follows their religion because they think its beautiful. All of the Christians I know go to church because they are afraid to die. So weekly they all gather in a stuffy building plastered with religious advertising to learn things they already know and to pray and sing songs in the same repetitive tune in hopes that some higher power will fix their lives, and acknowledge their time spent there in worship so they wont go to hell.

To Ride a Silver Broomstick was one of my first books on Wicca. She adds her own two cents in there a bit too much... usually to the point a 'seeker' will only agree to doing things Silver's way. I would recommend to beginners Scott Cunningham's Guide for a Solitary Practitioner instead. It seems to be much more realistic in my view.

I haven't read anything by Silver Ravenwolf yet. My only book so far is Scott Cunningham. I hate being broke all the time, makes it hard to get books and supplies. Not like I can find black candles anywhere around here.

Though I can only speak for Silver Broomstick and Silver Caudron, I don't mind them as reading material. I just think some of what she writes is very misleading, so aren't the best books for beginners.
Her other books... I don't trust any witchcraft books with "teen" in the title.

I have read many of her books and find them more imformative than others. And I have read a lot of others. She does suggest some very good books in hers.
So I'm not sure where all these talk of her being in love with herself.
Her book "Solitary Witch" Is very informantive. At least for me. I've read a bit of "The Witches Bible" and it was a bit hard to read. And "Earth Magic" was horrible. There's no help in that book what-so-ever.
Like TurniPanda, you have to take her opinions with a grain of salt. All writers, no matter the subject matter, work in their own opinions more than those of others. And I also don't believe, with all the OTHER BOOKS SHE SUGGESTED, she thought her books were the best for all those interested in Wicca or the Craft. She seems very tolerant of other religions.
But, alas, this is just my opinion.
Oh and I did notice she refers alot to spells for teens.

Though her books are enjoyable to read, they are contradictory at times and has less than honorable lessons for her young audience. In her book Teen Witch she says that you should lie to your parents about your faith, and even go out of your way to deceive them. I understand that sometimes you have to keep your faith hidden, but I think that she takes it a step to far.
That and the fact that it is nearly impossible to find any real information about her. I did a report about her last year and I found 3 very different versions of her biography... all written by her or taken from her writings. I have just grown to really dislike her.
The only books of hers that I really like at all is her fictional series. Sense it is fiction you don't have to sort through the crap from the real... just a fun read.

I found her older books to be drawned out and there be a lot of stories about her and her children in them. So I don't really read those as much. And I usually just skip past the parts she rambles on. I do like Solitary Witch. Its a decent read.
I'm still waiting on some of my other books to come. ^^

I own 2 of her books and I don't think they're that bad. I agree that she puts way too much of her own opinions in there but the basic information is good. I like her Encyclopedia, only bacause there is a little less story telling and a little more info. I am looking into getting a different one as a second reference because I'm starting to lean away from her more and more.

Its always good to read as many good books as research instead of just relying on just one source. Her books are ok for reference.

Nadreth This is why I don't read Silver Ravenwolf: http://wicca.timerift.net/ravenwolf.shtml She was the first author I ever read concerning Wicca and Paganism, and when I found this article, it made me realize what I had already felt somewhere deep within - it didn't make sense. I've researched others and looked up different information, and compared everything I found, finding all the similarities and contradictions... hers were nothing but contradictory. Total, utter crap.
