Alex just blinked at the two changed individuals, not sure if he should say anything as he turned to grill up some of those patties he had on the stove. "How long will it be till I'm eating my food raw like some wild beast?", he thought to himself, as he cooked and then started to clean up some of the mess. He tried not to stare at Alys' scarfing down of the fish. He didn't want to think it was wrong when his mind was saying otherwise.

Once one of the patties was done, he flipped them onto some bread, putting a bit of cheese on top of them, making himself a nice fish sandwich. It wasn't like he really wanted fish for breakfast but he was hungry and its not like he'd gotten much else the night before while he was gathering food.

"Its quite alright...", he said to both replies. Alex stared down at his sandwich a bit, deciding it was easier to just look at the food than to look up. After all, if he didn't look up, they couldn't tell how afraid he was, that he was just trying to be calm for the sakes of them.

She looked up to Alex a moment, staring at his sandwich. Something didn't seem quite right. She tried to ignore it, mainly because she was hungry. However, she managed to slow down on the fish, remembering her manners.

She continued glancing at Alex, and Nick. Watching then with a curiosity, watching their movement. The wanted to hide from them. Hide from the world and never come out again.

I'm a selfish freak...

Nick stopped licking his forearms for a moment, noticing Alex hadn’t started eating yet. He cocked his head to the side, ear twitching as his curiosity peaked.

“Don’t you like fish?” he voice trailed off into a low purr.

The question snapped Alex's attention to the here and now, looking over like he'd just woken up from a dream, or a nightmare. "Huh? Oh... the food. I like fish. I used to go fishing a lot, back home..." Damn. How long had it been since he'd called his small business in Manila 'home'? He honestly couldn't remember. Time seemed to not matter on the island, only the markers of time passing as someone changed.

He took a bite of his sandwich. "Sorry. I guess I'm just starting to wake up enough... I'll be fine. Think that rum from last night is the reason I have a bit of a hammer going on inside my head right now." He went back to the fridge and got out another coke, and started to down it quickly. He set down the coke and looked over to Alys. "Uh, I'm sorry if the food isn't as fresh as it could have been but I had to get what I could last night. Uh, are you doing better?", he asked as he moved to sit down at the table.

She had been watching him for a few moments as he snapped back into reality, trying in some form to hide his fear of what was to come, the questions that must have been buzzing in his head. He must have been in as much shock as she was. Nick, though, seemed to be doing fine, considering her memory of him the night before was of a confused, frightened kitten.

She nodded, "It's alright. The food's nice as it is..." She heard it, the 'are you alright' question. She wasn't alright. Not at that moment, anyway. Mostly, she was angry that she couldn't accept what was happening. She felt like such a hypocrite.

"I'm doing alright, better than lastnight, I suppose..."

Stretching his back he let out a loud “meow”. Nick was feeling he’d overstayed in Alex room long enough. And he’d rather not have to comfort Alys, he didn’t want be around people who kept reminding him that he used to be human. He climb of his chair and scurried across the room on his usual crouched position.

“Alex…could you...erm…let me outside? The doors locked”, for the first time he was happy he had fur, if he didn’t it’d been clearly visible he was blushing. It was quite embarrassing having to ask something only a pet should ever have to ask.

"Oh... sure...", he said to the cat person, getting up slowly to go open the door for Nick. He tried not to think about having to put in a 'pet door' on the door, but he did ruffle Nick's ears a bit as he left. "Thanks for the help. Take care."

He returned a bit later, and nodded to Alys. "Did you need anything else?", he asked her as he went to clean up whatever food was left or wasn't needed, or any cans and food that needed to be tossed away. He put his hand onthe end of the tentacle that used to her her arm. "I'm... sorry about earlier. Its been a bit suprising, seeing you change and... yeah..." He tried to think of something else to say, but for the life of him, he had no clue what to say.

Alys waved a tentacle at Nick, "Thanks for the help," She said, and it occured to her that she didn't know his name, but, she suspected that she would find out at another point in time.

She looked at the table as Alex approached her, the warmth of his hand was soothing to her.

"Don't be sorry, Alex. I would have reacted the same way... I'm just sorry you had to see it happen... There were things I wanted to do before I changed again... Now it's impossible," She sighed, leaning forward and resting her head on the table.

"I thought everything was going to be okay. I thought I could accept it like I accepted what my parents put me through... but I haven't accepted it at all..."

He tilted his head, as his 3 fingered hand held her tentacle. "Yeah, maybe, but I guess I just wasn't prepared for to see you change right there." He looked at her and smirked, "Well, I guess we can rule out you going hang gliding. But, considering you spent a good portion of last night asleep under water, I'd say you at least have the chance to explore the lake and river now."

"Next time, you can freak out when I change into a horribly deformed bird. Although don't stick me in a tub full of water. I think my feathers are dry clean only." He tried to joke about the situation, hoping that it might make Alys smile, or at least feel a bit better.

He squeezed her tentacle a bit. "Hey, life is weird like that some days. Life is what we make of it, no matter how bad a hand we were given to play with. And if it helps, you're the nicest squid I've ever met."

She couldn't help but chuckle, a smile creeping onto her features. Luckilly, her face was still relatively normal. She still had a nose, lips. Just a slight point to her teeth, and of course, the freaky eyes and dark red velvet skin.

"Well, you're the nicest bird I've met..." I just wish there was a chance... But it's gone now. She gave a sigh, the tentacle Alex held wriggled, wrapping around his hand, a gentle squeeze.

"Did you have plans for today? Uh, that didn't involve looking after a squid-girl?"

Alex chuckled back at the comment. "Its nice to see you finally able to laugh a bit." He smiled as he looked at the tentacle as he squeezed his hand, then back up. "I'm just glad that alcohol didn't give you a bad hang over or something. I guess that change must have had something to do with it."

"And plans? No... no plans. Why? Worried I'm gunna miss an important meeting or cargo shipment?" He reached over with his free hand and sipped the last of the coke he had in the can. "Only thing I can think of is getting you to your duplex to rest up, and packing the left over fish in a cooler to take over there. I figured you'd probably not want to go out for a day or two till you're steady walking again. I think I went overboard getting the food last night."

Actually, this wasn't too far from when he used to take folks too and from places, back when he was transporting folks around overseas. Luckily the duplex wasn't that far to haul the cargo of a cooler of fish to.

The fins that were growing on her back twitched, moving up and down slightly. It was the strangest sensation Alys has felt to date, something on her back that actually moved.

"Mm, just curious. I don't want you rearranging your day to make sure I was alright..." She gave a meek shrug, lifting her head and leaning back slightly. She looked down and saw the two newest appendages, they were still sore, she could feel the mucus building up, waiting for the first sign of danger.

"Just that... I don't really want to be alone, but I do at the same time... I dunno," She blinked.

"I was sleeping under the water? And I wasn't drowning?"

Alex nodded some, and got up, going over to the fridge. He picked up the cooler to haul all the fish to the duplex with, so it wasn't that far away. "Yeah.. at least as far as I could tell. Unless you were holding your breath or something..." He tossed the fish into the cooler and then looked over. "Uh, oh, did you want the tuna? Its in tins and I wasn't sure you wanted to fight with them. Uh, nah, better leave those here..."

"Well, I can drop in every few hours and check in on you, if you'd like. You probably have a ton of stuff to figure out after all, and last thing I need to do is be in the way..."
PostPosted: Sat Sep 23, 2006 11:57 am

Alys glanced at the cans of Tuna, she really didn't want to think about trying to fight with a can opener, let alone the can. She was a little spun out over breathing under the water, she could do that already?

"You wouldn't be in the way," she replied, fidgeting in her seat as she started the process of getting ready to walk. Joy. She'd be sure to get a walking stick, or crutches, or something. At least until her legs stopped being ridiculoulsy weak and sore.

"Now the fun part, walking with all this extra weight and stupid legs that feel like jelly."

He noddled some. He put some ice in the cooler then closed the top, picking it up. "Its ok. If you want, you can use me to keep you steady. I doubt you want to be carrying around this cooler of fish after all." He then made his way towards the door, moving slowly so Alys could use him some to maintain her balance.

"You know, at least you didn't change into something like a jellyfish..., then your legs really would be like jelly." Ok, bad jokes? Yeah, Alex was feeling a bit better it seemed.
