Gage tried not to scowl, or tell himself that he knew this was going to happen. Instead he drew up a paddle and began to help Nereida steer the boat to the shore. Glancing at his younger brother, he could see young Jack leaning off the side of the boat trying to get the full effect of the storm. Crazy child!
"Jack, get back from there!" In a very non Gage like voice he hollared at the child. It wasn't like it was a big deal, he just didn't wan to go in after him, his swimming was still rather sub-par. Setting the paddle down inside, he walked over to the young boy. "Stay in the bo..."
Gage's words were cut slightly short as a rather rough wave crashed against the side of the boat. Normally, it wouldn't have been a problem, but as the young fae was leaning out of the boat to bring his brother in, it sent him off balance and toppling into the water.
"GAGE!" Jack hollared watching the water swallow his older brother. Turning to look at Nereida and Darsais. "MAN OVERBOARD!!!!"

Nereida looked frantically around and saw the fading ripples. "He went in?" she barked at Jack. Not waiting for an answer, she added a hasty "Whatever you do, stay in the boat!" to Jack and Darsais and dove in near where she'd seen the ripples where Gage fell.
Blinking bubbles out of her eyes, Nereida found that in weather like this, it was difficult to see underwater. Her gillls kicked in as soon as they were submerged, but she knew Gage didn't have the same advantage. She looked around frantically - where was he? - and finally saw him. He wasn't struggling anymore. That was a bad sign.
With a few kicks of her webbed feet, she reached him and looped her arms around his middle. Judging their location opposed to the raft, she began to swim back up, fighting against his added weight and the current.
Just a little farther and...
She broke the surface, but there was no reassuring gasp from Gage. This was getting bad! She swam towards the raft and shoved him up a little.
"Help me get him on!" she shouted to the two children left in the raft. "I don't think he's breathing!"

Jack rushed to the side of the boat to see if he could spy any sign of either of them. Nereida had just... JUMPED right in. He wanted to as well... but she'd said to stay in the boat, but... that was his brother in there. Frowning he turned to look at Darsais before hearing the gasp from the water.
Spinning around he reached his arms out to help draw Gage into the boat. The fae's limp body heavy with more weight than should be there. Struggling and grunting, Jack pulled and tugged until the older boy flopped into the raft, his body lifeless. "Gage! Gage! Wake up Gage!!!" Jack's hands gripped the boys shirt and began shaking him for all his worth. "Get up Gage!"
It wasn't a game anymore... it wasn't fun. He wanted his brother up, he wanted him back. "Get up..." he whispered, the shaking ceasing.

Nereida pulled herself back onto the raft and shooed the Kybernetiks back a little. She knealt next to Gage and checked for a pulse like she'd seen doctors do on TV, but didn't feel anything.
How did you get water out of someone's lungs? Chest thrusts, was it?
She planted her hands on Gage's abdomen and gave him a shove.
"Wake up! Come on! Get up!"

Jack backed away as Nereida hopped back into the raft. It seemed the fae knew what she was doing, but the young boy still fretted, clutching his jar of dirt. "Will he be okay?!" He asked Darsais. A look of worried concern all across his face.
Gage's body stayed limp as Nereida pumped at his chest. His dark gray locks slick with water splayed about the deck of the raft. The only sounds were the steady beat of the rain and the crash of thunder overhead.

Nereida was not about to give up on her friend, but she was out of ideas.
What was the other part of that chest compression thing?
She remembered.
Did she really have to?
Well, of couse she did. It wouldn't work if she didn't.
Glaring murderously at Darsais and Jack, she murmured. "Repeat any of this and I will put a nail gun to your head."
And then, taking a deep breath, she pressed her lips to Gage's and exhaled.
Come on, breathe...

Jack's eyes widened in shock and maybe just a little disgust as the female fae dipped her mouth to touch Gage's. He wondered if this was really fair as Gage was not awake to protest. Wasn't that called rape or something like that?
Despite the little boys odd thoughts, the mouth to mouth CPR seemed to do the trick, as after a couple exchanges Gage's lungs grew to life and he began coughing up water. Upon openeing his eyes he saw Nereida and nearly fainted again. If he was not mistaken... she'd been giving him CPR, sitting up, he turned so he could vomit water in private.
Ecstatic by the fact that his brother was now breathing, Jack hopped over to him and crashed into his back, wrapping his arms around the older boys neck. "Gage!!!" The child squealed with glee. "Did you know that Nereida was just kis..."
"Shut up! Don't say it, don't repeat it to anyone, especially Dierdre." The fae boy snapped, he'd never live it down and he felt that his manhood (boyhood) had been severly damaged by this trip.

Darsais was having similar thoughts to Jack's. How could they? What was that? Gross!
Something shifted. Until that moment, Darsais had thought of Nereida as something of her equal, but now a boundary had been crossed. No matter the action's intentions, they all knew what they would remember it as: A kiss. Nereida had moved on into a very different world. One where Darsais, with her small-child's body and understanding, could not follow.
Nereida refused to meet Gage's eyes after that, and instead focused on paddling them back towards their little inlet. The storm was still raging, but the need to get off the raft, get home, and wash her mouth out with dish soap drove her forwards.
"You didn't like it?" she told Gage. "Good, because I didn't enjoy it, either."
But when he had his back turned, she glanced shyly in his direction.
There was something very odd going on here.

Jack was slightly offended with the tone Gage had taken with him. Frowning he backed away from the older boy and went to go sit near Darsais. "He's really touchy..." he muttered to the other kybernetik. Hefting his jar of dirt from the floor of the boat, he sat watching to the two fae NOT look at each other.
Gage was still trying to get the taste of saltwater out of his mouth, all the while, he felt the scratchy burn of swallowing it in the back of his throat. He scowled down at the water and pouted just a little. What was that? Why did it happen to him. Ugh... he'd never be able to get over this now.
Feeling a bit depressed, he picked up an oar and began to help paddle the boat toward shore. "I swear Jack, if you even go close to the side of his boat I'm shoving you out." Apparently getting kissed put the normally even tempred boy into a foul mood.

They finally made it back to shore right as the storm got really bad. Nereida helped them out and tied up the raft in silence.
"I'm sorry she's in such a bad mood," Darsais murmured to Jack and Gage. "I think you guys should go home." She walked them to the top of the dune and then returned to Nereida, who had singlehandedly shoved the raft high onto the dune. She flinched as lighting flashed.
Nereida turned and began up the side of the dune towards the house. Darsais followed.
"Ner? You ok?"

Gage allowed Darsais to take them up to the dune. His mind was still trying to comprehend everything that happened. Some pirate he turned out to be. Falling out of the damn boat! He glanced down at his little brother and thought of the things he may do tonight in their room where Veronica couldn't hear.
Frowning he also thought of Nereida, it wasn't as if he thought she was gross, but it was just wrong, no matter how he looked at it, not only had she drew him out of the water, but she'd kissed him. So what if she'd saved his life... it was still... gross...
Beginning to make their way up the beach toward the apartment complex, he glanced back at the dune. Huffing, he stopped and turned toward Jack. "You, little person, stay here, don't move, if I come back and you've moved I'm burying you in the sand where no one will find you."
Turning he began at a run toward Nereida and Darsais. Reaching the two girls he stared at their feet. "Nereida." It was said simply. "I don't want it to be weird between us, so... let's just stay friends alright." He continued to stare at their feet waiting to see what the fae girl would say.

Nereida motioned for Darsais to keep walking, but turned acknowledged Gage.
"It was CPR," she clarified, feeling her cheeks burn. "I saved your butt, maybe someday you'll return the favor. Why's it change anything between us?"

Gage frowned at the ground. Well excuse him if he thought it was a big deal to have a friend put her lips on him. "Right... well here's hoping we won't have to be in a situation like that again." Huffing one last time, he turned and began to walk back toward Jack.
"Let's go shrimp." He said walking past the young boy who'd been planted to his spot.
Feeling that silence was better than gold right now, Jack trotted after Gage as the fae boy steamed up the beach. It was actually kind of scary... Jack had NEVER seen Gage so much as barely annoyed, and now he was striaght out mad. He hoped some girl never kissed him like that, he didn't want to get THAT mad.
Wait until he told Dierdre what happened!

Nereida watched the pair retreat into the rain before turning and running to catch up with Darsais. She then made Darsais run with her all the way home until she could safely slam the sliding glass door put a wall between her and Gage,
And then she went to go find the dish soap.
