Just my memories, he responded to Silva, letting his nose trail a path in the air before approaching the water bank and inspecting the shallows. He muttered to himself and began a slow trot down the banks, eyes on the water.

Silva's ears flicked at this enigmatic statement, but now was not the time to delve further. She merely nodded, and followed him, her claws clicking on the damp-slick stones at the edge of the water.

Lera began to Follow Notoka and Silva as they started to move along the bank but suddenly Lera felt a tingling sensation in the back of her neck. Her head whipped around to stare at the dark forest. Only the whispering wind could be heard. Lera swore she felt as if someone was following them, as if some presence in the wood was moving. Yet she could be wrong. Lera turned her attention back to the two wolves who were starting the blend in with the darkness. She ran to catch up with them quickly. Never had Lera seen a night darker than tonight.

Notoka was oblivious to Lera's uneasy nature as he paced the banks, stopping now and then to go about belly deep in the waters before getting back out and moving down the water's edge once again. He was searching for a shallow place to cross...if his memory served him right, there should be a shallow spot that was just low enough for a pup to cross; that had been how he crossed over so long ago.
He found it after at least a dozen tries and turned to the females, nodding. Lets go, he said firmly, motioning for them to follow before turning and pushing through the elbow-deep water.

Silva watched, waiting as Notoka waded in and out of the water. Finally he seemed to find what he was looking for, and then he did turn to them and spoke. She stepped forwards, the water seeping into the fur on her legs and she shivered a little as the cold bit into her. She knew that they had to keep going. Even at this depth if they let the chill get to them, it would cramp their muscles and they would have trouble going on. She splashed, stepping high and following Notoka.

Lera followed behind Silva, still weary of what was comming from behind them. She turned her attention back to the water. She was reminded about how much her head hurt as a strong pulse made her ears quiver and her eyes blur. Her feet moves onto the slick underwater river stones and felt her feet fall numb. Her body shivered as her coat was penetrated with water. Lera could not distinguish the deep water from the shallow water. Lera just had to trust that the body that was moving in front of her, Silva's. Lera quickly moved through the water - she wanted out.

Notoka wasn't terribly fond of the water himself, being that he almost died the last time he had attempted to cross, but he knew this area of the river better than the place he had known where he had faltered and thus crossed with little difficulty.
Once on the other side, he took great care in shaking himself as try as he could, not wanting to be chilled unnecessarily from the water. He looked to Silva and Lera to encourage them to do the same.

Silva eagerly left the water, her teeth chattering a little. She walked away from Notoka a bit, before shaking herself from nose to tail, her fur fluffing out a little as water sprayed in drops from her coat. She stopped and it settled back down again. She went over to Notoka, and gave him a little lick.

As soon as Lera left the water she shook herself violently to releas and water from her coat. Her legs trembled a bit as her breath grew in front of her. She then turned to face the opposing bank, watching it wearily with golden eyes. Something was amiss.
Lera quickly turned back to Slva and Notoka, ready to run again regardless of her head pains.

Notoka gave Lera a look, possibly noticing this ever present discomfort of hers, but didn't inquire further. Instead he wordlessly started into a loping run again and lead them back into the forest.
The woods here only held very faint traces of wolf scent, mostly scents that Lera or Silva probably would be able to identify from wolves they had met at one point.

(( *chuckles at the convo in her last post* >< ))
Silva padded after Notoka, the movement warming her up again, the air that flowed into her quivering nostrils heavy with the old scents of familiar wolves.

Lera too recognized the wolve's scents, but something else was on her mind. The eerie presence behind them was fading, but a new one was approaching. It was a very faint feeling, but it was there. Lera didn't know quite to make of it so she kept her mouth shut to avoid confusion. She continued to run beside her friends through the unfamiliar woods; her numb paws pounding on the cold ground.

((For the sake of my sanity and everyone else's time...I'm going to speed this up))
Notoka ran on without faltering for what felt like hours, never once tearing his gaze from the trees ahead, his paws ignoring the stabs of pain as sharp twigs tore at his pads. He was relying completely on memories as he wound his way through the forest, nevermind how faint these memories were, and thus hadn't uttered a single word since their stop at the river.
By now the scent of familiarity was gone, leaving only the smell of other wildlife and the occasional two-leg. There were scents of other wolves too, but it was faint. The sun was falling low on the horizon and setting the sky into lovely pink, orange, and purple gradients one associates with a sunset now but Notoka paid no heed. He did pause, however, his brow knit in concentration, and sharply inhaled a noseful of crisp evening air.

They seemed to run for an endless distance, their breath spiralling above them and then behind like smoke signals almost. It was lucky that she trusted Notoka, for as they ran they were leaving behind all that was familiar, and Silva began to feel a sense of unease. When Notoka did next pause, she came up next to him, and panting spoke; 'Are we nearly there?'

Lera's chest heaved as they came to a pause and she took this time to lick her nigh frozen paws. Lera approached her two friends, the sense of a strong presence becomming even stronger, becomming more and more distinguishable. Lera kept silent but suddenly said quielty," Notoka, I can feel her..." Leradien wasn't quite sure of her statement, as it could quite possibly be something else, yet she had never encoundered a presense so strong as this one.
