"It's done now." He said with a small shake of his head. Carrying her up the steps and into the drawing room of the house. "What if I hadn't come to help you Covet?" He asked, pausing for a moment to look at her before placing her gently on a chaise.
"I'm just going to get you something to help with your head." He said swallowing and stepping back from her.

Covet searched his face as he hesitated in putting her down. Stretched out on the chaise, she looked up at him, unable to take her eyes off of him for some reason. She didn't need to say what would have happened. She had been completely unprepared like a silly fool. When he mentioned her head, she finally looked away and reached up again.
"I think I might have scraped myself a little," she said, placing her finger lightly over the knot.

Muttering to himself he went down to the shop and started to make a hot tea. When he was finished he climbed the stairs and walked back into the room. "Drink this." He said handing her the warm drink and moving to stand behind her. He removed his coat and rolled his sleeves up, placing both hands above the cut on her head. "Does that feel any better?" He asked as he attempted to heal it.

Covet pulled her knees up to her chest and watched him disappear. Wrapping her arms around her legs, she rested her head on her knees as she waited for him to return. When he did, she sat up and took the warm mug from him. Sipping the tea, she could feel its warmth seeping through her chilled body. As he stood over her, she closed her eyes and could almost feel the small cut closing.
"Yes. Thank you," she replied, keeping her eyes closed as she felt the ache in her head slowly start to slip away.

Mecca closed the cut and walked around to sit next to her on the couch. "Are you sure you feel better?" He asked lifting her chin up to look into her eyes. Everything seemed to be in order. "What were you looking for that made you take such a risk?"

When he was finished, she opened her eyes and watched him take a seat on the couch beside her. "Yes, I'm sure," she replied, again, keeping her eyes only on him. Taking another sip of her tea, she finished it off giving her the perfect excuse to look away at his question. Leaning over, she placed the cup gently down on a table, but kept her eyes cast downward.
"Nothing. It was just a wild goose chase," she replied softly, a light crimson tinting her cheeks. She really had played right into that scum's hand. She wondered if she really was capable of handling herself as she so often proclaimed. So far... her track record was not looking so good, she thought bitterly.

Mecca nodded and sat back against the low back of the chair, watching her for a moment. "Well, as I say it's done now. Though you should be more careful." He gave her an emotionless smile and placed a hand on her pale ankle. "Are you sure you are feeling better?"

Covet wanted to tell him she wanted nothing more than to be held, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. He wasn't Matty. He wouldn't just kiss away all her hurts and fears. Not that she wanted him to. It would just confirm in his mind how weak and silly she was. She looked up when he placed a hand on her ankle and watched him again as he asked her for the third time if she felt any better. Sliding her hand down her leg, she slipped it over the hand on her ankle.
"Yes. I really am," she replied, resting her chin on her knees so she could continue to watch him. "Are you alright?" she asked with a hint of a playful smirk.

Mecca looked at her in confusion and frowned. "Of course I am 'all right'" He said giving her a look, through keeping his hand where it was. "Why would I not be?"
Sighing he looked over to the velvet curtains that covered the large window. "Would you like me to light a fire?" He asked looking back to the iron grate.

"Just making sure," she smiled and shifted a little closer to him, slipping her hand into his to hold it a little firmer as she moved. "Um... no. I am alright," she said softly, watching him out of the corner of her eye. A beat of silence passed and she turned her face towards him.
"How did you know to come?" she asked, watching him.

"I sensed you were here somewhere ... but you did not come here so I went to look for you." he said raising her hand to his mouth and nipping her finger lightly with his teeth. "It is a good job I did. I do not think Matador would rest happy if you were found hurt on streets he knows I used to haunt."

Covet smiled lightly as he nipped her finger and decided she would just risk the inevitable of him thinking poorly of her. Shifting up to her knees on the sofa beside him, she gathered her skirts a little as she easily slid onto his lap, her legs on either side of his. Looking directly into his eyes, she slipped her arms loosely around his neck and leaned forward to rest her forehead lightly on his.
"Is that the only reason why you came searching for me?" she asked in a slightly suggestive tone.

"What do you mean the only reason?" He said, his cold eyes staring into hers, a slight smirk playing across his lips. "You want me to say I came to save you?" He asked sliding his nails down her back and keeping their eyes together as he waited for her to answer.

Her eyes drooped shut for a brief moment as she felt his nails sliding down her back, but she opened them again with a smirk on her lips. "Did you?" she asked, arching a brow, her fingers twisting his blood red hair between them.

"I came to make sure you were safe." He admitted pulling her tighter against him. "You were not safe, so then I realised I had to aid you." He paused and thought about all he had said for a few moments. "So, I suppose in a way ... yes I did. Though please don't tell anyone. I have a reputation to keep up."
